True Grit - 10/10. Great as usual by the Coens, and Jeff Bridges is just fantastic in anything.

The Town - 8/10. Good movie, but not nearly as good as Gone Baby Gone.

Gone Baby Gone was great. It really has an ethical dilemma during the final act.

Indeed. I was blown away by Gone Baby Gone, and I was very surprised when I read afterward that it was Ben Affleck's directorial debut.

Continues the proud movie tradition of hot (albeit aging) chick falling for the Average Joe.

I didnt think it was much of a dilemma(spoilers in white) because you cant take away a womans child just like that. She wasnt physically or emotionally abusive. She just needed to get cleaned up

The Fighter - 8.1/10 - Im sick of Mark Wahlberg being awesome in every movie.

Nobody knows about this movie, I swear. My girl and I went and saw it at the Angelika. I LOVE this movie. It's so weird, dry, and a little dark. Good stuff!!

Caught up on a bunch of movies I'd been wanting to watch recently.

I'll use a 5 star rating scale for this. 1 star being Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, and 5 stars being Shawshank Redemption.

I consider 3 stars and above worth watching. Anything else, save yourself some time.

Nightmare on Elm Street
(2009)

Awful in just about every way. Complete garbage.

Rating: *

Dinner for Schmucks

Lots of funny parts, but the humor gets way out of hand and over the top at points. Storyline is ok. Steve Carrell and Paul Rudd are both awesome.

Rating: ***

Scott Pilgrim vs The World

I expected very little from this movie. Boy was I surprised! This movie was simply amazing in every way. Great story, great humor, and they caught a great niche stylistically. Very appealing to the video game generation.

Rating: *****

Robin Hood (2010)

A different approach to the classic Robin Hood tale. It was a bit long winded and slow moving, but a decent movie. It fell short in some crucial character and plot developments though.

Rating: ***

Inception

I heard all kinds of amazing things about this movie. Like it really makes you think, and has an amazing twist. No. It doesn't. The concept of the movie is somewhat unique, and the acting is on par. Nothing else about it really interested me.

The storyline got a bit convoluted, and left some things unexplained. The twist.. didn't really exist. There was nothing shocking about it, and it was expected as soon as they explained how different dream phases worked. I did like the "decide for yourself" ending though, it did a good job of getting the movies point across.

Rating: ***

Downfall

German movie with subtitles based on real events. From the diaries of his assistants/secretaries. Did a fantastic job of showing a non Americanized version of Hitler (More of a grey shaded Hitler). Made him seem more like a real person than an evil dictator he is generally portrayed as. It's slow moving but does a good job of showing Hitlers last few days, and the fall of his regime. The actor picked for Hitler is absolutely amazing. If You like WWII history, I suggest watching this.

Rating: ****

Centurion

This movie wasn't bad, but nothing really stood out about it. I might watch it again if nothing else was on and it was on HBO or something, but I'd never actually sit down specifically to watch it again. Acting is ok, storyline is ok. I just kinda walked away from it like "Meh whatever". Perhaps there have been so many movies like this lately, it just didn't live up (It was low budget, comparatively).

Rating: ** 1/2 to ***
I wasn't really sure how I felt about it

The Crazies

Kind of a generic movie. Nothing new here to be sure. The acting was ok, nothing amazing. The storyline was again, generic. Like a zombie movie with a twist and a standard open ending. No real shock moments or tension. Not sure they could have realistically survived the ending.. At any rate they'd have a lot of problems if they did.

Rating: **

Young People F'ing

No, It's not a porn. This movie very few people have heard about, but it was fantastic. It gives a comical yet realistic approach to mostly common sexual experiences, from 5 different Viewpoints/Couples (not talking camera angles here). Really interesting movie. Most people will be able to relate with at least one of the viewpoints in the movie.

Rating: ****

lol, I don't know anyone that has seen the movie that described it as having a twist ending or being shocking.

Just finished watching this, and I have to agree completely. I've heard lots of good things about the movie in this thread, but it still exceeded my expectations. I don't think I've laughed this much at Michael Cera in anything he's been in.

That's because he's never been .. oh God, I can't even complete the joke. Too easy.

Not too dry, too unfunny.

And you guys really thought it had a great story? I mean, I can understand liking the film for the visceral reasons, the style, and just for being crazy fun, but a good story?

Story was the films biggest weakness, that and the relationship between the 2 leads being so weak. The rest was entertaining though. Knives was great, and the vegan police was an awesome bit.

The Book of Eli...not bad and I didn't see the twist coming at the end.

7/10

Get him to the Greek...I don't see what the big deal was about this movie.

It had it's moments but overall...you can have it.

And of course his famous rant to his Generals has been parodied numerous times on YouTube.

The fact is Hollywood rarely comes out with a unique storyline. Most stories you see have been done and redone numerous times. You have to admit at least it was unique. And it kept me entertained. So yeah, my opinion... good story.

The missing? or Missing, 8/10, tends to lull at times, but great acting.

Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus 6/10 Disappointed to say the least, has all those big time actors Depp/Pitt/Ledger, but not enough substance, and it was very disruptive and non-chalant continuity. Some things were just way to absurd to make the story work. Honestly the Ledger character never even felt that real or usable, kinda wish the movie was just about the odd-ball troop.

I agree the presentation was unique, but feel that the story still wasn't really developed much at all. And it was based on the relationship of the two leads which was a lot less developed than even the story was. If their relationship had been believable at all on any level (beyond her ignoring him at first), then I could give the movie some more credit in that regard, but it was a real afterthought to the fights and style of the movie.

The story was less about their actual relationship as it was obviously about them overcoming their past to give the relationship a chance. The whole movie presumably spanned a period of what 4 weeks? Hard to develop a lot about a relationship in such a relatively short period of time. It's pretty obvious that wasn't the point of the story.
