While I love the kids and the central storyline involving overcoming loss, the monster story aspect just completely fell apart the more I thought about it. So, I may give it a 9.5 or so for the kids etc. but like a 2 for the monster and the ending.
That is SO Gene Siskel, God rest his soul. :laugh1:

9.5/10.0

The train wreck alone is worth the price of admission.

E.T.|The Extra-Terrestrial meets Cloverfield??? Perhaps not, but kinda makes sense given that Steven Spielberg and J.J. Abrams hooked up together for this project.

The movie didn't waver too much from what I expected after watching the previews. All the kids were diverse characters, which made their interactions very funny. The movie itself wasn't so much about the monster, but displayed how grief is dealt with and overcoming great loss.

Good movie. Oh. If some of you don't care for projective vomiting, best to keep watch for the tall kid. :lmao:

I'm going to give it a 9.6 out of 10 only because it has to get a slightly better grade than X-men.

Fantastic movie. Go see it in a digital theater with great sound.

X-Men - 9/10 - Great pacing and the handling and development of the characters was very nice

Super 8 a solid 7/10. I knew it was a JJ Abram's movie going in, so had very little expectations. I will say it didn't suck, but it wasn't that great either. I do like the kids, but agree that the monster sucked. Generic plot, decent cinematics, not too great sounds, decent casting (I especially like Elle Fanning in this).

Forgive the hijack....but I can't access my PM box, or send PM's for whatever reason. When I try to I'm just taken back to the homepage.

Anyone know what the deal is?

X-Men - 8/10

Loved the movie. My only gripe was the lack of focus on anyone but Charles and Erik, although it was necessary. It didn't leave lots of room to totally geek out on the other mutant, especially since some of them were kind of lame.

I hate January Jones, but the funniest part of the whole thing is that she basically played mutant Betty Draper. The woman can't act.

I was trying to remember where I knew the kid that played Banshee from, took me a while to realize he was one of the few highlights from The Last Exorcism.

Overall, definitely enjoyable. Glad they kept the cheese down to a minimum, and of course the cameos were absolutely perfect. Looking forward to this series for sure, hopefully some idiot doesn't decide to kill off Prof X for some asinine reason like that fool Brett Ratner.

Getting to see Nightcrawler's (my favorite mutant) old man (and mother, for that matter) was a definite plus in my book.

Reign of Assassins 8/10

First off, Michelle Yeoh is so beautiful for pushing 50, WOW~ Ok, got that out of the way. Pretty basic Kung-** flick by John Woo. The action was very awesome wuxiu (sp) style, alot of wires, but very cool. There's a love story in there too, but I watch for the action. They really know how to choreograph, and film fight scenes. Any kung-** nerds are advised to check it out.

I don't know if I should post a real rating, but I saw the last halves of both Salt and Taken this weekend.

I don't know how it happened, but the only time I've been able to see Takers this weekend was when it was half over. So basically I missed all the build up of characters and plot. What I saw was 5 worthy and the ending pissed me off.

OTOH, the 2nd half of Salt was pretty great. I'm going to rent the DVD so I can see the whole thing.

The Expendables 5/10

So much star power to so little effect. When things weren't blowing up, it was a yawnfest.

We saw Knight and Day on HBO. I would give it a 6 out of 10 since I didn't shell out any extra money to watch it at the movies or on Blu-Ray. Probably one of those points would just go for Cameron Diaz's smile. Can't say that I find her to be my personal cup of tea, but that has to be one of the warmest natural smiles I have ever come across.

Due Date 8.5/10. Really hilarious. My favorite quote was "Dad, you were like a father to me" - hahahahaha!

Megamind 2/10. Walked out after 30 minutes. meh.

Wanted to update MEgamind to 6.5/10. I liked it after watching it all the way through. Wouldn't want to watch it again anytime soon though.

7.0/10.0

I don't get it. I'm not exactly certain what is DC's problem with transferring the true essense of their main characters to the big screen, but it's getting pathetic.

Martin Campbell got the Guardians of the Universe down pat. Tomar-Re and Kilowog were outstanding despite their limited time on screen (Michael Clarke Duncan's voice as Kilowog was five-star level casting). Maybe translating CGI characters in this movie was easier??? Who knows?

Angela Bassett as Amanda Waller was a nice NICE touch. She has some of the BEST pair of legs in Hollywood. Wow... (COUGH!) Anyway, she wasn't allowed enough time to really develop Waller's character in this movie. Maybe she'll have the same opportunity in any future DC movies as Samuel L. Jackson has as Nick Fury in Marvel movies to tie films together. :crossed:

The actors playing Abin Sur and Sinestro did great, especially with Sinestro. He nailed Hal Jordan's future arch nemesis's sense of supreme arrogance. Oa was a wonder to behold.

Hector Hammond? Blah. Carol Ferris? Blah. :grrr: (Was that Blake Lively? Shame.) Tim Robbins acting as senator and father in this movie made me wish that his character in The Shawkshank Redemption had never escaped.

Three quarters of the movie drags because evidently Campbell wanted to make a "wise cracking Ryan Reynolds as Green Lantern" movie instead allowing Ryan Reynolds to showcase his serious side and submerse himself completely within the character. Note to Reynolds: leave the puppy dog eye routine with your comedic roles. Physically speaking, there may not be another actor in Hollywood who could have pulled off the character's look in this movie, so he and Campbell should be given high props for that at least.

The special effects were first-rate. They gave the cosmic power of The Ring true meaning. Parallex? Superb opening film villain.

That's it. Got it off my chest. My months long anticipation was underwhelmed. DC should be awfully appreciative of Christopher Nolan and his Batman franchise. REALLY appreciative... because Marvel continues kicking their corporate butt on screen. However, there is one thing for fans of the comic title to really look forward to in the sequel [***SPOILER ALERT IN WHITE BELOW***]

The YELLOW ring has been created!

TRUE GRIT the remake

4/10

I did not like this movie at all. John Wayne nailed it and that is that.

I did not like how close the movie was to the original but if you are going to keep it that close stick with it
