My wife and son left town early this morning and they will be gone for a week. I planned on watching a lot of entertaining movies until they come back so i went to blockbusters this morning and rented The Hurt Locker, Surrogates and Zombieland.

While I was there the store has a few bins for used movies, 3 for $20 and 4 for $20. They've had it for a few months now but the last time i was there, 2 months a go the selection was pretty weak for my taste but i ended up picking The Last King of Scotland, Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Zack and Miri Make a Porno.

This time they had a better selection and i picked up 7 movies for $40, The Hangover, Blades of Glory, Tropic Thunder, District 9, Star Trek, Hot Fuzz and Y Tu Mama Tambien. I've seen all of them and enjoyed them. Not bad for $40.

I will report back on the 3 movies I rented. :D

The Hurt Locker -- sux
Surrogates -- sux
Zombieland -- sux

On my way out the door to return the movies now!!!!

I don't want to watch anything too deep and slow. My purpose this week, as far as watching movies, is to use as little brain power as possible and be entertained at the same time. Bruce Willis and Woody Harrelson fit the bill. I expect The Hurt Locker to be a lot better than the other two.

Hurt Locker - Interesting series of scenes, but not really a story to hold them together.

Zombieland - pure win!

Surrogates - just watched this last night, Bob was right for once.

Edge of Darkness

Mel Gibson was at his best in this movie. It featured a very good plot and did a really good job of making you "care" about the characters. The flashbacks, especially the "shaving" was very well done.

I just watched it, too. I liked it, but not as much as you did, I guess. I agree that the shaving scene was excellent.

Surrogates--------6/10

An intriguing storyline but nothing special about the movie as a whole.

After the movie, one of my family members said they liked Taken better.

If I had anything to gripe about, I would say there were not that many plot twists. Basically, just about everyone you thought was involved was involved.

The Hurt Locker------8/10

It had a very 'real' feel to it and I loved the understated performances of the actors. It wasn't glamorous but I don't think war movies should be. It wasn't fast paced and full of action every minute but from everything i have heard and read, war times for soldiers are often filled with monotony with sporadic burst of action. A very well done movie.

ZombieLand....loved it, but I am a zombie movie fan so I am bias.

Not as good as Saun of the dead IMO but still pretty good for what it was.

Shaun of the Dead is overrated. Zombieland is easily it's equal and so much more.

taken started out good to me then about 1/2 way through it, it just went too far for me to suspend disbelief. i can only go so far before the storyline gets hokey.

for surrogates - that took me a bit to get into and while i can say nothing overly special about the movie, the idea was great.
