Knowing (Nicolas Cage) - 8.75 / 10 - I enjoyed it. Tension/suspense, some unexpected plot twists, very nice special effects in a couple of scenes.

Edge of Darkness (Mel Gibson) - 3.5/10 - Predictable, unimaginative, dull, forgettable.

Looking for Comedy in the Muslim World (Albert Brooks) - 5/10 - Occasionally amusing.Some likeable characters. It was creative, but for me, it missed more often than it hit.

I was hoping it would be a little better. The hard-to-believe, meandering storyline wasn't in the same league as the great cast.

I had no idea how violent Miami had been in the 80s, a city having 621 murders in 1 year is typically associated with poorer countries.

It also introduced some interesting social question and we get to see that the guys who bring the drugs into the country don't spend alot of time in jail but the guys that sell on the street and use it do.

I'm going to watch the sequel on the iPhone.

I had no idea how violent Miami had been in the 80s, a city having 621 murders in 1 year is typically associated with poorer countries.

It also introduced some interesting social question and we get to see that the guys who bring the drugs into the country don't spend alot of time in jail but the guys that sell on the street and use it do.

I'm going to watch the sequel on the iPhone.

I got to host a meeting of doctors at the restaurant I work at and some of them worked the trauma units of Los Angeles in the 80's. A slow weekend night was 15-20 shootings.

One of them worked a weekday shift where they admitted 14 shootings, but ended up with 16. One of the shot victims had another pistol on him and killed two people in the freaking hospital that were part of the original shooting.

Cocaine Cowboys II Hustlin with the Godmother
10/10

Most reviews on imdb.com said it was inferior to the first Cocaine Cowboys but I actually thought it was much better. Not sure how Charles Cosby sleeps at night knowing Griselda Blanco could be alive.

Went to a screening of The Losers last night - 5.5/10

This was a pretty sloppy movie. The action was shot very poorly and edited even worse, it's just all over the place back and forth with extremely fast cuts. If you think Bay cuts action fast, you may consider him slow after this. On top of that the action is pretty cheesy. Almost every single bad guy in this movie (and there are a lot of throwaway bad guys) dies with a single shot usually delivered with a casual flip of a gun in their direction. The Losers never seem to miss and the bad guys can never seem to hit anyone. Then of course when 2 characters get in a shootout towards the end, nobody can hit anything. This is PG-13 so there is almost no blood, and no hope for some crazy over the top violence to make it more fun.

The humor is pretty weak for the most part. There were quite a few times when something was obviously supposed to be at least somewhat humorous but it just falls flat. The one saving grace here is Chris Evans who just has fun with what he's given and in turn is actually funny.

The story is pretty lame, the villain incredibly stupid (no background is offered, no motivation, no explanation for what he ultimately wants), and the movie is just all over the place.

Even Zoe doesn't help much.
