Yeah, people are checking it out because of the book. The same people I know who saw the movie, hated it, but loved the book.

They were smart to release it when they did. It will fall off a cliff next week. Fans of the book were going to see it, ratings and reviews be damned.

I am not so sure. There are many that read the book that haven't seen it yet.

can you believe it's made almost 160 million overseas already as well?

Wow! Was going to look that up. Thanks.

Ok. Me and the wife just saw it.

Went in with a clear head. No assumptions or any of the "things" people are talking about and/or hyping.

It was a 7.5 out of 10 for me. Wife says about the same.
There is more to it, IF, you want to see it.

John Wick - 7.5 out of 10 - Man, this is 100% one of those movies that I will stop and watch every time I see it on TV going forward. It provided just enough plot to have a reason to make a movie loaded with fight scenes. Taken for what it is, it was a pure pleasure to watch.

Nightcrawler 5.5 out of 10.. Not a fan . It was late but idk I really didn't like Jake G role. . I just watched prisoners the other day with him and I liked that movie though. Jake G was a weirdo in this movie

The Way Way back. (one with Steve Carell and Toni Collette)

Meh...I kind of liked some of it, other parts of it were slow and boring.
A boy goes with his mom and her new Boy friend and daughter to a summer trip. The dad is a major league turd and the boy is just socially awkward and it is a tale of the boy coming out of his shell.

As noted above...John Wick - It sucked.
Sure there was plenty of fights and shoot outs but even those were kind of over the top and too long.
I just cant get past the idea that the whole thing started because some russian mafia punk liked a Car that happened to belong to
a retired hit man that was so bad that the russian mafia used to call him the boogey man so the kid goes and beats the guy up in his house, steals the guys car and kills his dog...which sets off a revenge movie...sorry the premise was just so stupid from the start that I had a hard time getting passed it and this is a guy who has watched a ton of b rate horror and zombie movies so I can normally get past many things.

The Blob - The 80's version with Kevin Dillon.
Cheesy, Cheap and special effects at time make you laugh as they looked like they were out of the fifties here and there...but still a fun one to watch. Word is they are going to make another Blob movie in the near future.
This is the type of movie you might watch if you are really bored and kind of like cheesy 80's movies.

Flight of the intruder - been a long time since I last seen this movie... Just as good as I remembered it being.

Now I wish I had Bat 21 so I could watch it.

Unforgiven and Narrow Margin.

Everyone probably knows unforgiven and most are going to like it.

Narrow Margin is a lesser known movie but has Gene Hackman in it.

As much credit as Gene Hackman gets for his ability and career...it seems like he is still underrated IMO.

When people list the best actors ever most of the time he is not in the top lists...however he should be.

He makes everything look so believeable and effortless. He makes you forget he is an actor. I will also say that he is not, nor really ever was, considered
a Hunk looking guy. He could play so many roles (good guy you loved, boring guy or the bad guy) and even though he might not have the looks of a dashing leading man or the body of a big action hero...you still believed what he was playing.

Great actor and it seems like even if he might be in a movie that is not that great, he still does a good job.

Saint Vincent was the last movie I saw, it was really good. Bull Murray was great and characters were really developed well. I give it an 8.

The midnight Meat train.
Bradley Cooper and Vinnie Jones was billed on the description so I thought I would give it a try.

Did not realize it was a Clive Barker story/script.

Kind of slow but the ending was kind of cool even if it was pretty obvious how it was going to end.

===

The Place beyond the pines.

Too long but the ending was kind of cool.

I have to say...I don't get the Love for Ryan Gosling. Maybe it is the ladies that love him or something but between this movie and Driver I just don't get the appeal. He basically just looks sad or mad and does not say much but for whatever reason is considered a great actor...Don't get it.

Absolutely..... He quietly retired in the mid 2000's after great performances in "The Royal Tenenbaums", and "Runaway Jury".
His filmography is awesome.. respect due.

(a bit off topic, I love the nod that Tony Scott gave to "The French Connection", & Hackman's character in "Enemy of the State")

I found "The Place Beyond The Pines" interesting. It was long, but I kind of liked that it was. It felt like 3 segmented stories.... each having three acts.... I'm sure the screen writer was ecstatic, because it seems like they didn't cut anything....

If you want to see Gosling actually show chops, and not just "stare"....check out "Half Nelson"..
one of his early films... He plays a teacher with addictions....
