"The Voices" is a dark comedy starring Ryan Reynolds, Gemma Arterton and Anna Kendrick. Ryan plays Jerry who is socially awkward, very cheery and likeable, but is also very mentally disturbed. Jerry's cat and dog talk to him and are like his angel and devil telling him what to do, with the evil cat Mr. Whiskers and the good dog Bosco. There are some very funny lines and interactions especially with the dog and cat, but make no mistake this movie is very dark. Reynolds does a great job making such a disturbed person endearing, it really was an unexpected role for him. While it does have some comedic moments, this movie is a lot darker and twisted than expected and has some very sad, touching and disturbing moments. This movie will not be for everyone, but I really enjoyed this unconventional and twisted movie.

Snowpiercer was a little disappointing. After a failed global warming experiment, survivors board a perpetual motion train. After years a caste system develops and sparks revolution between the poor in back of the train and the affluent in the front. It had some good moments and had some good reviews, but for me it just fell flat.

Snowpiercer 5/10

I thought it was bad. Amateur allegories about.

Cinderella - 6.5/10. Not a bad live action version by any means. The performances were okay, though unspectacular. The magic bit in the middle seemed quite a bit out of place with the rest of the movie, but that's not too unexpected I guess. Basically a pretty basic and straightforward retelling. Nothing very unique or creative about it.

'71 was pretty good. It takes place in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1971 and a British army unit is sent to the dividing area between protestant and catholic. Tensions escalate quickly and the unit is forced to evacuate the area, but one British soldier gets separated and inadvertently abandoned. Not knowing friend from foe, he tries to make his way to safety. The film does well showing some of the volatile situations of the time.

One of my all time favorite movies. It bombed, but when I saw it at the theater, I was laughing nonstop louder than anyone else. My brother to this day, still talks about that. So many great lines in the movie. One of my favs, is the beginning of this clip, with Clifford saying "Oh, you're the bestest Uncle in the whole wide world".

Give it a 7/10. Not for everyone, but Martin Short is great as a little kid.

CLIFFORD (1994) Martin Short, Charles Grodin, Mary Steenburgen.

Last two movies I saw in theaters were:

It Follows. 7/10. This is a high rating for me for a horror movie. Very original concept. Minimalist horror film. Probably the best traditional horror film I've seen in a while. Much better than The Babadook.

Wild Tales. 10/10. Absolutely amazing film. Argentinean film. One of the funniest movies I've ever seen and it doesn't involve any comedic actors. Every second of the movie is carefully planned and perfect. A movie I would watch over and over again. It involves six unrelated short tales. The last one is a thing of beauty. The comedy is so subtle and it builds up. Not no cheap laughs. Just brilliant execution.

Last two movies I've seen on tv:

Dumb and Dumber To. 1/10. Awful movie. I can't believe how bad the acting was. Jim and Jeff seemed like they never took an acting class before. It's surprising since I thought their acting was what made the first film so great. Very bad film. I'd rather watch an Adam Sandler movie. And the funny thing is, the best scene in the movie wasn't even in the movie. I was reading a message board where someone described a funny scene in the unrated version. Jim complains that he ordered a chocolate shake but got a vanilla. And Jeff complains that he ordered a vanilla shake and got a chocolate. Instead of swapping shakes, they both throw their shakes over their shoulders and walk away. Funny scene but not in the movie. Too bad.

A Million Ways to Die in the West. 5/10. I heard bad reviews but I thought this movie was surprisingly good. It was no masterpiece but it exceeded my expectations. Seth McFarland is basically a whiney hipster in the Wild West. Clever concept. The most hilarious part was the relationship between Sarah Silverman and Giovanni Ribisi. She's a prostitute who has sex with 15 different men a day, and they've been dating for 6 months, but they've decided to wait to have sex until they got married because they're both Christian. Good comedy movie.

Cold In July is an indy thriller, the director calls it southern noir, which fits it pretty well. It has a very solid cast with Michael C. Hall, Sam Shepard and Don Johnson. It takes place in East Texas 1989 and shows its 80's vibe with Michael C.Hall rocking a pretty sweet mullet, his wife's mom jeans, Jim Bob showing off his hip briefcase size "mobile" phone, etc.

An ordinary family man, Hall, shoots an unarmed burglar that breaks into his house in the middle of the night. The burglar's father, Shepard, recently released from Huntsville, looks to get some payback. Hall's character accidentally learns that the burglar he shot is not the same man that the police claim him to be and tries to learn the truth. I can't tell more past that, but this movie does have some twists and turns after this....

There are a couple of plot issues and questions raised, but I was very entertained and still felt satisfied in the end regardless. There's more I'd like to say about it, but can't give anything else away. The soundtrack fits very well and each actor gives a great performance. Plenty of tense and gritty moments, twists and solid storytelling to make for an enjoyable ride.

Furious 7 - 6.5/10. I didn't think too much of the first 4 (though not terrible), but had a good time with 5 and 6. I thought this one was better than the first 4, but not as good as 5 and 6. They really went over the top dramatically with characters needing to be safe so they could come home, and the final act really was pretty lackluster, especially compared with the action piece earlier in the film. As always, turn off your brain. There was a nice "tribute" or send off to Paul Walker though.

It Follows - 5/10. This one is certainly overhyped. The atmosphere is pretty good due to the music, but that's about it. Not anywhere close to being scary. And it's another incomplete story. Someone had a part of an idea and made a movie with it. Some people seem to find that refreshing. I find it typical and lazy.

One of my faves as well and have it on DVD. Short is genius in this movie (not generally a fan of his otherwise) and Groden plays the perfect type A uncle pushed to the break. Very cleverly done. Give it 10/10 for originality alone. Great gem and post.

I use to have a version I recorded from tv many years ago (vhs), & believe it or not, it had scenes not on the dvd. I can't believe no new dvd has been issued since 2004 (according to Amazon listing). And also another fav of mine, Bill Murray's WHAT ABOUT BOB, hasn't been released on BLU-RAY. A crime.

Another gem that I also own on DVD. Similar tastes I see:). Favorite What About Bob quotes:

Dr. Leo Marvin: You think he's gone? He's not gone. That's the whole point! He's never gone!

[Leo opens the door; there's Bob]

Bob Wiley: Is this some radical new therapy?

Dr. Leo Marvin: YOU SEE?

later near the conclusion of the movie

[Leo has a rifle pointed at Bob]

Bob Wiley: What are we doing?

Dr. Leo Marvin: Death Therapy, Bob. It's a guaranteed cure.

Another underrated great comedy that definitely has earned a Blue Ray release most definitely. Back to Clifford,
Grodin as Uncle: "Can you at least TRY to look like a normal human boy?...

Home.... 7/10

Solid kid movie. Deducted 1pt for the bad 3d. Sponge bob had great 3d effects, even if it's a movie I never want to see again.

I feel like the directors slapped some random 3d effects to charge more.

"And Then There Were None".

Also known as "10 Little Indians".

An 1945 movie based on an Agatha Christie novel.

I had seen a when I was a kid and picked up a cheap DVD that featured this and "The Most Dangerous Game".

Anyway, I enjoyed it. I long ago had forgotten how it ended.

It's a nice period piece from the mid-40's. I enjoy a good b&w film now and again.

7/10.

St. Vincent (5.5/10) and Dracula Untold (4.5/10). Underwhelming on both accounts. St. Vincent would be the better choice as it has some humor here and there, but it's pretty generic for the most part. Dracula Untold is just a dull actioner with lots of bats.

Contact (jodie Foster)

Still an ok movie that I like parts of and other parts annoy me. But overall still an enjoyable watch after not seeing it for some time.

Forgot to mention it.

When I was watching Contact, they had some old computers on there and one of the web browsers was netscape. Have not seen that in years...I could see the little animated gif when it was working.

Brought back memories of surfing the web on a dial up modem.
