Ravens tried to get Cowboys to trade down

Except for this year (in part because they lost Suggs), the Ravens are EXCELLENT in identifying talent, especially in the first round. That they wanted Zeke tells you something about their ability to evaluate talent. So it looks like the Cowboys did a great job not trading down. In fact, the Cowboys have done pretty well over the past few years in identifying first-round talent.

Almost everyone on television was saying Zeke is a special back. If so, you take him if you believe he is - value be darn. ;)

Last three first rounders drafted by Baltimore:

Matt Elam
CJ Mosley
Breshard Perriman

Not excellent anymore.

my God, people on this site are so extremely fickle! People are chanting in the streets ZEKE, ZEKE, ZEKE...they have t-shirts made, people have changed their first born's name to Zeke, even if they are a girl...and then people complain that we could have traded down! JJ sucks!!!! There is NO WAY to impress some of you????

give me patience, Lord, give me patience......

Word is that Ravens wanted Ramsey, but there's enough subterfuge going around that maybe they were wanting Zeke.

I feel like I am in a dream with Zeke. Never thought we'd take him after signing Morris. Getting him is like your dad taking you to buy a used car for your birthday and the salesman drives around the corner with a brand new mustang or camaro.

They are reporting in Baltimore:

They had failed to complete a trade with the Dallas Cowboys to move up to the fourth spot to take Florida State defensive back Jalen Ramsey, who instead went to the Jacksonville Jaguars at No. 5

To be fair they also said Zeke was a potential target, but they are reporting that they tried to move up for Ramsey.

Jerry can say what ever he wants @ this point number #1 guy on the board, Ravens where going to take him etc. No way to know for sure, other then we where hearing there was a difference of opinion between the scouts and Jerry/Garrett and Baltimore papers are reporting the Ravens where moving up for Ramsey.

No one was trading up for a rb, stop it. Cowboys are the only goofy franchise drafting one that high.

anything to back this up, or are you so sure about something you can't possibly be so sure about?

A LOT of teams LOVE Elliott.

I was thinking the same EXACT thing

Bottom line is it is not worth losing 1 of 2-3 elite prospects in this draft for a 3rd round pick in a weak draft class.

If some team wanted Elliott that bad, that team would have swung a trade with SD. Not much difference in trade between the #3 pick in the draft and the #5 pick in the draft. SD was looking to trade down also.

I don't believe any team wanted Elliott that bad.

In hindsight, it might have been a blessing in disguise not trading with Balt. I suspect Jerry and the team would have used the extra pick gained from a Balt trade to move back into the 1st round for Lynch. No thanks on that.

LOL, Jerry confirmed the Ravens would have picked Zeke at 4 in that trade up with the Boys

Of course he's going to say that. He has to cover himself on this because it would be foolish to not accept a trade and get an additional 3rd round pick and still end up with the guy you want at 6.

It seems the Baltimore side is saying the exact opposite. ESPN is reporting the same thing. They wanted Ramsey.

I really hope he's right. But if he missed getting another 3rd round pick when we could still have had Elliott at 6? That's a big miss by him.

If that were the case, someone would have traded with JAX and snagged Elliot.

Then we're left with none of our top players.

That point seems to be lost on some in here. The risk was too great. I'm so glad the Cowboys FO was smart enough to recognize that.

Is it being reported it was a 3rd or are we assuming? I have not heard what it was.

LOL. Most teams knew we were targeting Elliott at 4 anyway. So if teams were that scared that we'd take Elliott, they'd have tried to get to 3. But no one did.

If the Ravens wanted to get to 4 to take Ramsey and gave us a 3rd rounder and we refused it because we were afraid someone would take Elliott at 5.............. the front office completely misread the draft then.

And? You didn't believe the team was going to take Elliott in the first place, you thought they were going to take Ramsey. So what you believe doesn't really carry a lot of weight right now. Those of you who wanted Ramsey over Elliott simply don't get it. Yes, other teams wanted Elliott that bad.

Oh, is that the angle you're using today? I'm sorry that pill is so bitter. Fortunately for you, the team is much more astute and made the right pick last night. So you'll get to benefit from the team's great fortune, despite your erroneous thinking and ignorant strategy.

We couldn't score points last year lol I don't see a problem here. We couldn't get into the end zone to force the other teams to take chances. I'd imagine we would've had more TO and sacks if that was the case. Our defense kept us in games last year.

I'm glad we got Zeke he is a difference maker period. I'll listen to guys like Emmitt and Irvin over a blowhard like Dieon any day.
