RB expendable Debate

"Serviceable" rb's are easily found. But playmakers like zeke
are not. Our succes in 2016 was mostly attributable to seek. Same for this year.
Det doesn't think so!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Zeke will be signed to a 2nd contract. He can live up to that. It’s the third contract we shouldn’t even consider. The same was really true for Emmitt, but he was an icon at that point, rushing record, etc....so we were stuck, really.

Agree and I think he gets signed to that contract a year early. One way to help mitigate the risk of a RB decline in their 2nd contract is to get the clock rolling early on that contract.

Judging by the lack of 30 year olds on this roster, you probably won't see many players signed to a 3rd contract.

Players who get banned from the league dont still get paid.

He could end up on the commish exempt list, which requires payment. Also the issue of a signing bonus. Teams can try to get it back, but difficult.

Yes it does. That is an actual record without Zeke last year. You made up a hypothrtical record and then so did I. LOL

You proudly told me we were 3-3 without Zeke
3-3 translates to 8-8
It's called 'mathematics '
Look it up

Yes. A .500 ball club. Congrats. Do you possess the ability to calculate your hypothetical 6-10 record you pulled out of your *** without Zeke, professor?

Any player can. Zeke is no more likely than anyone else.

So what would you do?
Let him walk?

So you are ok with a .500 club
See I told you, fans like you settle for mediocrity that is why you constantly apologize for Jerry and Garrett

No, I am not and not sure where you get that from, but I understand, I ruffled your feathers. I pretty much harp on the this team for the most part. Hell, Rockport always accuses me of being nothing but negative.

You claimed the team would be 6-10 without Zeke, which is below .500. I pointed out we were actually .500 without him. Do the math, the actual winning percentage is higher than your made up one trying to prop Zeke up. People do this all the time with Romo talking about how we would only be a 4-12 team without him.

Sorry to I have ruffled your feathers. I am going to predict we win the Super Bowl so I don’t “settle for medicotrity” in your eyes.

I agree that we are a .500 club with Dak and without Zeke

I say we have to resign Zeke. what do all of those teams have in common? a great passer that can be center of offense. our offense starts with Zeke and runs through zeke. when zeke does good we win. he is special.
this is the argument for sure that will have to be answered come contract time.as of now none of those teams mentioned in the earlier posts that claim their star RB goes down and they dont miss beat are all in a throw first offense and have a OC and QB to run it.. our identity is ground and pound first and throw when needed..

so we better draft a rb in the 4th or 5th round this year and next to try and find a back before we decide to let go of Zeke..they arent that easy to replace, ie 4th overall picks and the like..oh and BTW conner looks good for Pitt but they arent better without Bell..conners out and now they look even worse..sure they are easier to replace then QBs but not so easy you hit on every one..for me it depends on the contract demands, the reason Bell was FT then was FT gain he wanted to be paid like a top WR/DE and not sure that is going to fly with any team for a RB..

whos the top paid RB right now? Gurley? whats he making?

Smith is huge drop off from zeke so..?

Been seeing a lot of talk about the upcoming decision of what we do with Dak...and rightfully so, as I feel like he’s been incredibly inconsistent but that is another conversation.

What about Zeke? Obviously this dude is the heart and soul of our O. I was on record saying we should’ve drafted Ramsey due to how easy it is to draft serviceable RBs. Not saying we made the wrong decision bc Zeke has been stelllar... but look around the league...

Steelers
Chargers
Chiefs
Etc...

Key RBs go down and life goes on...

Not saying don’t pay the dude, but I think it’s a serious question to be considered whether or not we make him the highest paid RB in the league moving forward at the expense of paying other guys on the team.
RBs don't last, especially those that get worked the Zeke has been. Even Emmitt Smith, who was exceptional in his durability, was not a special player by the time he reached 30. And you don't want to bet the house on someone being as durable as Emmitt Smith, because you will lose that bet the vast majority of the time.

Zeke was worked hard in college and has been worked hard as a pro, and they're going to keep working him hard. I expect them to let him walk after 2020, and I think that will be the right decision.

I'm not saying that at all. Just that his past might cost him a little. Jerry loves his players but Stephen has gotten a little cheap recently, so I don't know what is going on in his head in terms of contract offers.

It will also be interesting to see what Josh Gordon's next contract will be. He's also on Goodell's "watch list" yet he's shown he's still one of the better receiver's in the league.

yes, we need a viable back up to Zeke. with that said, its going to be tough for Stephen to manage the cap, given we have Jones, Lawrence, Zeke, Dak and right after Jaylon Smith to sign over the next couple of years.....we will have to let someone go perhaps, but not sure whom.......Stephen is pretty good at cap management. what really hurts is missing on Taco....that's why drafting well helps your cap management. if Taco was any good, then Letting Lawrence go might be doable...but right now. its not

One could even go as far as to say that if you took Emmitt’s career and applied it to today (Emmitt being a first round pick) that the correct strategy would have been not to resign Emmitt and to franchise him one year and then let him go. Starting with 1996, Emmitt played nine more seasons and averaged a mere 3.9 yards per carry.
Of course very few backs historically would meet the second contract standard, Barry Sanders and Adrian Peterson come to mind.

And both of them were done at age 30 (although I agree, there was no obvious decline in Sanders's abilities at that point). But I'd much rather miss out on the one good DeMarco Murray year post-Cowboys, or the up-and-down years of post-28 Adrian Peterson, than get saddled with an Eddie George for years past his expiration date.

...Lol ok bro, i'll continue to be right...?

"Pitt improved? Based on what?"

*Shows you all the ways they improved*

"Lol Okay bro, think you want to"

LMAOOOOOOOO this forum never ceases to give me entertainement
Not worth a rebuttal with your cherry picked categories. You only proved you don’t watch football and stat watch. Good luck makin the playoffs Steelers

Zeke has a 5th year team option due to being a 1st round pick that the team does not have with Dak.

With the 5th year option, they could then Franchise him for 2 more years for a total of 7 years.

At that point it would be after the 2022 season. He'll be 28 years old then. Historical data clearly shows that the vast majority of NFL RBs start their significant decline at age 28.

You proved you didnt know the topic at hand and should have just stayed quiet. If you dont watch the players that were mentioned then dont act like you do, I'd think that's pretty simple to understand. That's why other posters laughed at your comment haha. It was outright dumb.
Ypc, rushing TDs(so the two most important rushing categoeies) YPPA, and ppg are now cherry picked? Goodness lmao

Wishing the Steelers good luck? Wow there's no chance you're a Cowboys fan.
