Re-draft question Smith vs JJ Watt

You could not go wrong picking either guy. Tyron like most OL will not get the same headlines as a JJ Watt but when it comes to playing the game Tyron does not take a backseat to anyone.

Regardless, it's going to be like Superman v. The Hulk on Sunday.

I couldn't torture my eyes to sitting and watching some special for an hour on a Steeler player. Nope!

I understand, but if you're a fan of Pro Football, I don't know how you couldn't enjoy it. Everyone is different though, so I won't try to make you, lol. :p

Give me Smith at LT for the next 10+ years - He could be the greatest of all time by the time he's done as well... Simply allows no one past him. Has an announcer even mentioned the guys he has lined up against once during a game this year?

Yeah, I would definitely put Reggie White on the top of that list, along with Decon Jones. Would be hard to pick between the two of those guys, for me. Greene was a heck of a good DL, obviously one of the best ever as he is in the Hall, but I don't know that he would make my best of all time list.

And Reggie was owned by Eric Williams
Give me smith every time

I watch plenty of football but never watch the Steelers on my Ticket.

If I want to watch good defensive guys from that era I have stuff on Randy White, Harvey.

If I could pick a D Line of who I feel are the best ever I would go with..

LDE Reggie White

DT Watt

DT Sapp (can't stand him but what a beast)

RDE L.T.

That's really hard to say. There have been some great, great players over the years. I guess my starting line would be:

Decon Jones, Reggie White, Allan Paige, Buck Buchanon.

There is a lot of room for discussion here but that is probably who I would roll with.

I'd still go Smith over Watt. Watt will almost certainly have the higher peak value for his career, but a dominant offensive lineman will likely have double the peak years of a dominant defensive lineman.

At the time, Smith was needed more.

I agree, this was a JG pick too. He personally went to his pro day and look ethusatic at smith peformance. Smith was a player of need and was the best player on the board.

I could not put a D line together without the Manster Randy White.

this story wont be finished till the end of their respective careers.

You should watch the Steelers. I watched too much of them but I have to admit, that was one of the all time great defenses for sure.

I'm still taking Tyron.

As good as JJ is, DTs, or even DL in general, for the most part, just don't have a ton of impact on the game. As big and strong as today's OL are, they just can't.

You can take JJ's 4-5 splash plays a game or Tyron totally wiping out every passrusher that comes at him...potentially 50 plays a game. That allows you to do so much more offensively.

watt is about the only dline guy who can really take over a game. that said, a great LT is hard to find and at the time we needed the lt more than the de.

It pained me to have to leave off Randy or Lilly but I just felt like both Reggie and Paige were slightly better.

a case could be made. Unfortunatley officals stats on sacks where not used until later so many of Randy White sacks do not show. Sacks were not counted until 1982

I found this from Mr. Todd Archer, (I believe) anyhow, How do you GM's feel this draft redo would play out?

  • Sunday’s game between the Cowboys and Houston Texans will feature two of the best players from the 2011 draft in Tyron Smith and J.J. Watt. I wonder where these guys would go in a re-draft. The Cowboys took Smith with the ninth pick of the first round. The Texans took Watt at No. 11. Cam Newton (Carolina), Von Miller (Denver), Marcell Dareus (Buffalo), A.J. Green (Cincinnati), Patrick Peterson (Arizona), Julio Jones (Atlanta), Aldon Smith (San Francisco) and Jake Locker (Tennessee) went before Smith. Jackonsville took Blaine Gabbert at No. 10 before Watt. There has to be some buyer’s remorse from Buffalo. Miller and Smith have had off-field issues. Locker clearly was the wrong pick. But the folks in Cincinnati, Arizona and Atlanta can’t be upset with their selections. If we’re re-grading the draft, then Smith and Watt would clearly be rated higher.

I've seen Watt line up all over the defensive front. I got $10 says they don't put him anywhere near Tyronasuarus on sunday.

That should tell you who's the best value pick.

Reggie White / Mean Joe Greene / Bob Lilly / ???

Right. That's why guys like Decon, Paige, Eller, Olsen, Buchanon, Martin etc. are not often mentioned in these kinds of conversations. But they were all great, great players.

I agree.
