I strongly disagree. Admittedly, I do not have a supportive evidentiary list to post concerning everything I *think* makes Jones more a more meddlesome owner than Lurie.

That said, I believe the thread topic has been gotten a bit murky. Jeffrey Lurie is not the Philadelphia Eagles' general manager. He does assign those responsibilities, along with decision-making associated with the position, to his employee.

On the other hand, Jerry Jones is the Dallas Cowboys' general manager. While he does delegate GM-designated duties to others, Jones has retained the decision-making authority associated with the position.

General managers are the principal advisors to team owners of all front office processes. Howard Roseman serves in that capacity for Lurie. Jones is his own advisor for his own front office operation.
Again just because they call themselves something does not mean the jobs fit your preconceived notion of who does what.

That is your whole argument. Lurie doesn't have the GM tag. Jerry does.

Again, we know Lurie is active in FA decision making and in play choice for the coaches. But somehow what we don't know about Jerry is more than that? Nonsense.

you have shown no real proof for yours
I asked for one instance of Jerry not letting coaches coach their scheme.

Crickets.

Want me to link one of the bevy of articles talking about Luries interference with Sirianni again. or can you read the thread?

I agree completely!

The Cowboys need a REAL GM .. someone who doesn't do what the Cowboys have been doing for 29 years by paying salary cap limiting contracts to players who do not help this team get anywhere near a Super Bowl.

Hard to believe .. 29 years .. 0 Super Bowls .. and after all of those high-paid contracts.
Our GM stands alone as the only NFL GM that never watches game film. He can't be bothered with making the roster better when he's busy booking the next Monster Truck event at the stadium.

All I ask is that we have a defense better than the last 29 seasons. Our defense is the reason we lost in the playoffs against:
  1. Green Bay last season
  2. Green Bay after the Dez catch bad call (4:58 still left in the game but our defense completely folded)
  3. The Seattle fumbled snap FG playoff game (if defense forces a punt, we get a final possession with great field position)
  4. The home playoff loss v Green Bay (Dak had better stats than Rogers, but defense couldn't stop 4th and 35)
  5. The Rams away game loss where defense could not stop the run
  6. Etc.
The stink on the Jones boys is festering after 29 seasons of playoff futility and there's no end in sight.

Lurie is very involved, as much as any owner. He is not involved in evaluating player talent. Roseman is, but is not particularly good at it. He is not good at day one drafts, lots of misses. Lurie only purchased the Eagles because he failed in his bid to buy his beloved Patriots. He trusts Roseman and they collaborate well enough. Lurie participates in all pertinent decisions. If that’s meddling then he is meddlesome.

I suspect this thread gets pushed off the front page quickly
It's a quarter to 5 Saturday afternoon CDT (6 EDT)...I suppose the thread still being on page one is the number of responses on how ludicrous the OP presented this thread.

That is what I am saying. Call McClay the GM and it is essentially the same thing. We are a bit different as Lurie will tell his coaches what to call while we have extra voices like Stephen.

Neither can you. But Jerry makes himself GM and usurps power from the head coach, even if its only perceived.
You can keep repeating assertions if it makes you feel better.

Jerry will step in and say who will be what coach. Stepping over Garrett for Callahan is the great example.

Once the staff is set, he let's the coaches coach. Gailey, Campo, Parcells, Phillips, Marinelli, Garrett, and now MM have all been allowed to implement their schemes and the organization shifts its personnel strategy accordingly.

Im not sure about that, neither of us can say with 100% confidence that Jerry doesn't say who he wants playing....BUT we can absolutey say with 100% facts he has gone and made trades the coach didnt want...true? HOF coach with skins on the wall got a player he didnt want..thats a fact.

So? The committee is not always a consensus. Who cares?

Real GM's dont look at a players team Championships while with a team when deciding if the player can play and/or improve their team.

Reggie Miller would be highly sought after in todays NBA...but has no Championships under his belt.

A GM would be unqualified to look at him as not being worth acquiring assuming they were willing and able.

Why is this board over-run with team stats defining a player?

Does this hurt the boards narrative?
you should rewrite this and leave out the nba references.
The only thing that makes sense is "Why is this board over-run with team stats defining a player? "

To that I say it isnt over run ,people generally talk or post dak stats, or team stats, good or bad to support
what they are saying.

As for what your saying about GM's real ones lol I dont get what you were trying to say.

I know we dont have a real GM , we have an owner pretending to or playing the role of GM.

2 things I wont forget is him trading 2 #1 picks for WR Galloway , which was a joke turned disaster.
Then much later traded a #1 + others for aging WR Roy Williams which was a disaster.

Jerry is really bad at trades lol, but he has had lots of fun doing them

Jerry has never done any trades where cowboys got the # 1 pick, or #2 etc. I know he got a # 5 for amari,
and that may be the highest he has ever got ?

Lurie does not “tell his coaches what to call”. The difference in the two teams’ front office hierarchies is Roseman can be fired. Stephen really cannot. The Roseman is a genius nonsense is one of those fantasies fanbases come up with. He once insisted on drafting Lane Johnson overruling Chip Kelly who wanted to draft someone else. Probably says more about Chip Kelly than Roseman. I think the Cowboys would be well served hiring a GM and giving him the last word on player personnel.

“You just go over what are some of the strengths and weaknesses of the opponent, that’s about it,” Lurie said. “You’re not going over detailed game plans. That would be a waste of their time with me. It’s more like, ‘I think we can attack this player. This is a mismatch I want to go after. This defensive coordinator is new at that team.’ We look at film from X, Y and Z, try to evaluate him, see how it applies to the personnel they have, for example like this week on the Commanders. It’s really kind of good stuff but it’s not meant to take up a lot of time.”

No one is arguing he doesn't make personnel decisions. He did not tell Parcells how to coach him or how to scheme him.

Oh and:

“I have a high regard for him,” Parcells said Tuesday during a conference call conducted by the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which Parcells will enter next month.
“He has a tremendous amount of passion for the franchise and I think the people are lucky to have him, lucky to have him as an owner, because they're not all the same. I can tell you that. Having a guy like that and what he tries to do on a yearly basis there is great.”

I never claimed he did ...... I said he interferes with them having authority over the players and demands certain players be played.
