Really doesn't it come down to Romo?

Without Romo? LOL If Orton took over this Sunday the Cowboys would end up 5-11.

5-11 is where the cowboys are headed with Romo as the starter.

Romo is no where near as valuable as you think he is.

He has become the most overrated player ever by this board.

I've always wondered if Romo is good enough to handle the chess match at the line of scrimmage. More often than not, he seems to get overwhelmed by the pre-snap stuff and ends up giving what the defense wants AKA a play that is safe but maybe too safe.

Said it before that ROMO suffers Paralysis by Analysis==His brain locks up, seriously. Think long think wrong.

You mean like the season-ending int that Peyton made in OT last year?

I agree that there is an ultra elite tier of 3-4 QB that Romo is not a part of.
But come on, after the 1st half of the Giants game, Romo has played the next three halves with some pretty busted up innards.
I really hated that play with Dez on the island too.
But let's see how things unfold in the coming weeks.
It's not like the guy has 5-6 ints and a rating of 60 or something. Other than about one qtr out of 8 he has not been terrible.

I love Romo but Dez has to be your first option there in single coverage. Every time.

Before the season I had us at 10-6 if things go well and 5-11 if we didn't start fast and people started arguing and pointing fingers about playcalling. We'll see.

The Cowboys aren't going 5-11 "with" Romo and you can book it! Feel free to dig this post up at the end of the season and see if I'm not right. :) The Cowboys may end up 8-8 again but no way are they only going to win 4 more games the rest of this season "with" Romo. When you have an immobile, unproductive Kyle Orton backing up Romo that makes Romo even more valuable. Kyle Orton is an average QB who's been let go by 3 different teams and had to settle for a backup job in Dallas. He's not half the passer or athlete Romo is the Cowboys have about as much chance winning with Orton as they did with Vinny and Bleslow their final seasons in Dallas. Romo is capable of playing as good as any QB in the league and Kyle Orton isn't. He's very limited as to what he can do which is why he's carrying a clipboard. His career completion percentage is barely 58% and his career passer rating is under 80.0. Will the Cowboys ever win a SB with Romo?

Highly unlikely because the Cowboys will never have a good enough team around him to overcome his ill-timed turnovers plus he's never been a good decision maker and he can't handle elimination game pressure. However he does give the Cowboys a hell of a lot better chance than Kyle Orton. I'm not thrilled with Romo but there's only a handful of starting QB's better than he is. It's laughable for anyone to think the Cowboys would be better off with a QB who was dumped along with two #1's for a QB (Cutler) who's probably not even as good as Romo. Orton has never passed for more than 3802 yards and 21 TD's. Only twice in Orton's career has he even thrown 20 TD's in a season. You put him behind center on a team that has no running game and pass protection issues and you're SCREWED because he's not a playmaker who can Houdini escape his way out of trouble to make a play like Romo can. You only play Orton if your goal is a top 10 pick.

Romo HAS proven he can go toe to toe with an elite QB in a shoot out, he's proven it before, and he also proved it last year against Drew Brees. The thing is though, even if Romo plays very good, we'll still need a big play by our defense to come out with a W against those teams. We definitely need to get Dez the ball though, because like you said he's our play maker, but if teams triple team him like the giants sometimes did, then I disagree. It'd be dumb to force into triple coverage with a HoF TE and one of the best #2 WRs in the NFL.

Well naturally you don't force it to Dez but the Cowboys have other playmakers in Austin and Witten helps move the chains. They need to start utilizing Dunbar's speed out in space.

They looked STACKED because they had an awesome defense that helped carry one of the worst QBs into the playoffs.

If Denver's defense carried Tebow to the playoffs there would have been no Tebow mania sweeping the country. He pulled several games out in the final minutes with his legs and a few with the hitch in his delivery that miraculously found their mark. There were some games where Denver's defense made a play to save a win but most of their wins came with Tebow on the field working his magic in the final minutes. It was the plays he was making at the end of games that captivated everyone.

He was pulling out games in the most unconventional way we've ever seen from an NFL QB. He was running around like a chicken with their head cut off pulling off wins completing only 7-9 passes in a pass happy league. At the height of his popularity his own team dumped him because they were even scratching their heads how they ever managed to win 7 games with him.

Simple solution. Take Romo out, put in another QB and is the offense better? Another QB would have to deal with the same Oline, RBs and playcalling?

But reading this article Jay Cutler made me wonder, *IF* there is improvement in the Oline this season, could Romo be going throught the same adjustments? I know at least a couple of folks pointed out how in pre-season a few plays where Romo seemed to react to pressure that wasn't there. I do recall at least a couple of plays where he could have stepped up into a decent pocket but didn't...

From the article, "“The hardest thing right now is stepping in the pocket and not seeing ghosts because these guys are doing such a fabulous job protecting,” Cutler said on his weekly radio show on ESPN 1000."

The rest of the article: http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/bears/post/_/id/4685975/cutler-no-longer-seeing-ghosts

I think there is something to this as I don't believe Romo is trusting his pocket yet, I don't think hurting his ribs helped in this reagard either.

Look, Romo no longer has the confidence to throw into tight coverage down field, instead he holds the ball. Until you fix that, it won't get better. They've installed a lot of horizontal routes, but they take a while to uncover, If he keeps holding the ball, he won't last 1/2 season.

Romo is a top 10 QB. He's shown it time and time again. The NFL is the ultimate team sport. It takes the sum of all parts working together to win consistently in the NFL. We haven't seen that with the Cowboys for some years now. It's either been bad coaching, less talented players and a combination of both. He deserves credit for doing as well as he has despite the team limitations he's playing with.

I believe that was a designed play. And I think you can put that one on Callahan.
