Reggie Ragland will miss the 2016 season

You have to be joking with this comment. Nobody goes into the draft knowing that a player will get hurt in training camp. That is just ridiculous. Its another thing completely to draft a guy you 100% know will not play his rookie year, if ever. Personally, I dont mind the pick. Long term, it was probably a decent move. But it flies in the face of the "win now what is best for this year" mantra of Jones and the FO as was with the Zeke pick. It shows complete lack of continuity, strategy, and planning on the part of the FO.

And how is Jaylon going to win rookie of the year if he isnt even playing his rookie year?
I dont think there is any win now or win later mantra for the Cowboys. There move at the top of the draft the last couple years tell me they are talent collecting

Imagine if we have a perennial allpro keuchely type of lb to go along with 3 or 4 more years of pro bowl level Sean Lee. Ahh now that's something to look forward to
That would be very nice. I just hope Lees past injuries dont shorten his effectiveness. Keeping him on the weakside seems to be a tonic for keeping him healthy

Just something to watch, in case you want to like the Jaylon Smith pick a little more. I can't root for this kid any harder after seeing this video.

How did the Zeke pick suggest it was "win now what is best for this year" mantra? Everyone breathing air knows the best pick for the Cowboys if they are in win now mode was a defensive player.
Not me. Defensive picks are future investments. Even that high. Defensive picks rarely have win now type outputs there rookie years.

If you are adding to the defense in a win now capacity, FA is where you do it. Not the draft

What about when Myles Jack balls out THIS year?

Myles Jack is, in some ways, a bigger risk than Jaylon Smith. Jack will eventually need microfracture knee surgery. The problem is, nobody knows how long the knee is going to hold up until he does. Jack can last three years, five years, or a couple games before that thing goes boom. At least with Smith, the worst is hopefully already over, and in 2017 there should be no more surprises.

Can't agree.

The worst case with Jack is that he plays a few short years and doesn't come back.

The worst case with Jaylon Smith is that he never steps onto the field for the Cowboys.

Do you blame Stealer GM Kevin Colbert for the Martavis Bryant and Leveon Bell suspensions? Most here agreed with the risk vs reward when Gregory was drafted. Many thought he was worth the risk. I would not call the Gregory pick a screw up. The results are not what we hoped for but the selection was worth the risk at the time and it may still pan out if he can turn kick whatever habit he has.
yes.

feel better?

if he was going to stop smoking weed for a multi-million dollar career he'd have done it by now. i don't care what he or anyone really says - it's not addictive. nothing anywhere near something like alcohol.

and many thought it was a stupid pick also.

Simmer down girl, I can give my opinion without you picking it apart like the word police. Actually, IT IS better at this point and time because Smith is would be closer to touching the field than Rag. You have no idea what you are talking about anyways, because there is a chance Smith could touch the field if we make the playoffs, however highly unlikely. Lastly, it's subjective...why are you even on this blog?

If you can't take criticism of your opinion, then why are YOU even on this blog?
And you called me a girl, yet you're the one who came unglued when I challenged your position.

Your proof he is closer to touching the field?
You're talking out of your hope, which is why you use IFs.
Smith isn't playing now and Ragland is no longer playing. This is what we know. That is not subjective. That is FACT.
Or as the saying goes, "Everyone is entitled to their opinion; everyone is not entitled to their own facts.
I don't know what I'm talking about? :lmao2:

You use an essential first round pick - on a hail mary medical discount when your franchise QB is week to week and you have huge immediate defensive needs. Beyond stupid. Got to win now or next season, period.

Jerry and Garrett both said it.

And to date, you are the ONLY guy I have heard that thinks that taking Zeke was for long term and that taking a DP would be for short term. Everyone that opposed taking a defensive player that I read threw out the idea that defensive players dont make an impact their first year.

Maybe, or it might be the best pick in the entire draft.

Absolutely. If this kid comes in next year and if by his second year his making the pro bowl at MLB or at least playing like it, then he could very well be one of the best picks in the draft. WE can only hope that Jones finally hits on one of his swing for the fence 2nd round picks and that Jaylon is that guy. Like I said, I dont mind the pick so much because its long term thinking and not short term.

Yah, to me it seems their strategy or lack there of is pretty consistent of late. Take the BPA available with the first pick with an eye towards offense. With the 2nd pick swing for the fences and take a guy that could be great on defense or flop. 3rd and 4th round you reach for need. ect.....ect.....

Ragland is one of the guys who hate the Jaylon Smith pick says we should've got. Mark another one off.

Huh?
Are you saying that Ragland made a comment about us picking Smith?
Are you saying Ragland said we should have picked him?

You must not have read everyone on this forum. I read people were against taking a defensive player with the #4 pick because Ramsey was not a playmaker in the interception department and Bosa was a dope head and wouldn't be a double-digit sack master but would be simply "good" and that wasn't, er, good enough for the fourth pick in the draft.

If Jalen Ramsey had shown the college potential of a Deion Sanders and Joey Bosa had the college potential of a Jerome Brown or Warren Sapp, you take them and don't look back.

But there was skepticism of the top 2 defensive players, and outside of the top 2 quarterbacks, Ezekiel Elliott was the consensus top offensive player.

No I heard all of that too. And I agreed on the Bosa front. Ramsey was the guy I wanted. But I fully acknowledge the success that a great back like Zeke will have here in this offense. I just felt it was the wrong time to take a back and the wrong pick to use on a back. I do love Zeke, however, and love the fact that running the ball will now be a focus of this team.

As far as defense, some in the "win now" camp argued that defensive players dont make an impact their first year and so Zeke would give us a better chance to do something THIS year.
