I get it and agree but you’re missing my bigger point . Totally agree he wants to win. But only wants to win his way. And not bad enough to get out of the way . Yes, it’s stubborn .

But ultimately he isn’t placing winning as the highest priority . Instead he’s placing his own personal passions and egos ahead of what is best for Cowboys Football.
Yes he only wants to win with him as GM. Which he is convinced he is a good one and perfectly capable of winning another one.

The motives to why our ownership has refused to step aside at even age 80 is crucial. Is he still going to be our GM at 90 if he’s alive and not tied to a bed ?

When will all fans finally get on board and stop defending and deflecting not only his results but his motives .

It doesn’t have to take away from continuing to root your team on for 60 minutes at least 17 weeks a season. Nor does have to deter the renewed optimism each season in the draft and rebuild with hope for a more success.

But we must all acknowledge what our owners egotistical, selfish passion has meant to our favorite and or local football team since Jimmy departed. We shouldn’t let that early success with Jimmy provide him a pass for life which looks to be the oldest GM in NFL history.

And continue calling out not only his motives but his agendas and passions which have brought us to this place. He doesn’t deserve an easier ride simply because we are exhausted or bored calling it out.

Yea but I’m not sure he’s actually convinced he’s what’s best for Cowboys Football.

This is why he bought the Cowboys. He wanted to be a football guy . Winning is the ultimate goal and wants it badly but like with Jimmy if he’s not the guy he’s not interested.

At age 80, he’s not even willing to pass the baton to his son.

Jones bought the team when he was 46 and immediately named himself general manager. Anyone not too young at any stage has observed this man when he turned 50. When he turned 60. When he turned 70. When he turned 80.

He has the exact same mentality right now as he did at each of those stages of his life. If living, he will be the same at 90. However, if his mental faculties begin to deteriorate before or at that stage, the Jones family will be faced with a difficult choice of allowing him to live his life as he always has despite his mental state or do what is best for him.

Only time will tell what may or may not occur in Jones' life. That said, believing a day on a calendar will matter one iota to someone with his particular mentality is not a logical conclusion.

I’m sure 99.9% of the Cowboys fans here on the Zone want to win a championship badly. We all have a hunger to see another Lombardi join the storied collection of the 5 others. There are dozens and dozens of threads that contain hope and realistic dreams of winning. And those dreams aren’t ridiculous. This roster is very good. It’s not out of the question to see this team go on a deep playoff run. I’m hopeful despite the last 28 seasons.

The biggest roadblock to that dream however is this: our owner/president/GM does not want to win as badly as we do. He doesn’t think like we do
. Yes, I know JJ wants to win. He would love the spotlight of hoisting a Lombardi on SB Sunday while shouting, “We did it our way!”

But being motivated by doing whatever it takes to win a championship is stronger among us fans than with our owner. The strongest motivation he has are these two things:
  1. Being the face of the franchise from “jocks and socks” to the last detail of every penny. It’s why he’s an owner.
  2. Winning the “Forbes Championship” every season. He’s prouder of the fortune he’s made with this team than the 3 Lombardis he’s won.
So when any one of us fans think if we don’t have a winning season this year that Mike McCarthy is on the hot seat, think again. Jerry doesn’t think like we do. If we win or if we lose, Jerry Jones is going to do things “his way” with himself as the centerpiece. If winning a championship was THE goal, he would’ve made changes at the top a long time ago.

So as we prepare for another season, I still have hope we can go on a deep playoff run. We have a very good roster and I do think McCarthy is one of the best head coaches we’ve had since The Big Tuna or Jimmy. But if things go south and we somehow don’t make the playoffs, it won’t make Jerry as unhappy as it will us.
If we thought like Jerry we would all be billionaires cruising around on our mega yacht right now.:)

Not agreeing or disagreeing. I just think it is pointless to speculate about Jerry’s motivations.

Do I believe he wants to win? Yes.

Has he been able to accomplish that since the 1995 season? No.

A lot of other owners have also failed to win a Super Bowl during that time frame.

Cowboys
Commanders
Bills
Dolphins
Jets
Browns
Bengals
Lions
Bears
Vikings
Jaguars
Titans
Texans
Panthers
Falcons
49ers
Cardinals
Chargers
Raiders

19 total teams have all been unable to win a Super Bowl during that time frame, which is a majority of the teams. Should we analyze the motivations of those other 18 teams also?

Honestly, bashing Jerry bores me. It’s like picking on a first grader during recess in grade school. It’s too easy, and doesn’t make the person taking shots look any better for giving Jerry a beat down. We all know he’s failed. And…??
What befuddles me, is why an opinion given about Jerry not seemingly being as motivated as fans to win is called “bashing him”. My original point was he doesn’t think like we do as fans.

I said nothing about his character or his family. Just an opinion. I don’t hate Jerry. I just really hate the results he has given us in the playoffs the last nearly three decades. He has said he wants to win badly. And I believe that. Just not bad enough to make a change at the top.

And since you mentioned the 19 teams who have not won a SB in the same time frame as us…let me also share an even more startling stat: There are actually a whopping 22 teams who have more playoff wins than we do the last 23 seasons. In fact here are the teams who have MORE playoff wins than the 4 playoff wins we have this century:
  • Cardinals- 5
  • Chargers- 5
  • Bengals-5
  • Vikings- 5
  • Titans- 5
  • Jets- 6
  • Falcons- 6
  • Broncos- 7
  • Bucs- 8
  • Panthers- 8
  • Rams- 10
  • Saints-10
  • giants- 11
  • Niners- 12
  • Chiefs-12
  • Colts- 13
  • Seahawks-14
  • Pack- 14
  • Steelers-15
  • Ravens-16
  • egirls- 16
  • Patriots- 30
We are third in our own division in playoff wins this century. We’ve won less playoff games this century than the freakin’ jets!

Look. I want the Cowboys to win and I will celebrate with gusto when they finally win a divisional playoff game, an NFC championship game and a SB. I said in the OP and several time in this thread that the FO has done a good job the last few years building a roster. But I can’t just pretend that we shouldn’t have done better over the last three decades and act as if our GM/emperor has clothes. He doesn’t.

In order for me to think like Jerry I'd need a billion dollars, a 2.75 blood alcohol level, and several blows to the head with a heavy blunt instrument,,,

Good work Bob.

Here’s the comparison which IMO really stands out .

A list of the teams who haven’t had a Super Bowl appearance since our last in 1995 .
In NFC only Dallas, Detroit, Minn and Wash. In AFC only Buff, Hou, Mia and NYJ.

That calculates to 24 of 32 or 75% of NFL have been to a Super Bowl since our last appearance .

So Jerry is coaching the team during the games? If not it's all on the team. Jerry is just sitting up in his booth looking like a kid happy about his toy. You can blame Jerry for all you want, but it's on the team and coaches to do their jobs.
who hires the coaches, and picks the players ????? lol ....... the jones boys do!
and jerry meddles, do you really think mike was starting elliot over pollard because he thought that was best for the team?

How about going back to last year and list all of the teams that won at least 1 playoff game? Then list all of the teams that won a playoff game on the road. How does this current Cowboys team rank today?

That was 11 years ago, he is still GM, and the Cowboys still have not won a divisional round playoff game.

People who try to claim Jones wants to win as badly as many of us are practicing some serious cognitive dissonance. I don't know how much more the facts need to beat one metaphorically over the head for them to sink in.
However, the did win a playoff game last year and they have improved the team for this year.

A pointed reminder of Jimmy's nemesis in the 90's, Buddy Ryan. Who I believe at times said, "If you ain't the lead dog, the scenery never changes.
(Im sure others can take credit for this, too, i.e. Bum Phillips, Switzer).
