Bullet, all Jerry wants is the Cowboys to be relevant and in the conversation, because both provide economic growth. More so, his economic growth.
And wouldn’t winning a championship do even more for his legacy and his pocketbook? Just because he doesn’t think the way to a championship is the same path some fans desire doesn’t mean he doesn’t want to win just as much. Jerry tries to win in a way that keeps the Cowboys fighting for championships by making the playoffs every year. Isn’t that the Landry tradition, 17 consecutive playoffs but only 2 championships.
If you want to see an owner who truly doesn’t care about winning but just wants to make money, look at Bidwell and Snyder.

I’m sure 99.9% of the Cowboys fans here on the Zone want to win a championship badly. We all have a hunger to see another Lombardi join the storied collection of the 5 others. There are dozens and dozens of threads that contain hope and realistic dreams of winning. And those dreams aren’t ridiculous. This roster is very good. It’s not out of the question to see this team go on a deep playoff run. I’m hopeful despite the last 28 seasons.

The biggest roadblock to that dream however is this: our owner/president/GM does not want to win as badly as we do. He doesn’t think like we do
. Yes, I know JJ wants to win. He would love the spotlight of hoisting a Lombardi on SB Sunday while shouting, “We did it our way!”

But being motivated by doing whatever it takes to win a championship is stronger among us fans than with our owner. The strongest motivation he has are these two things:
  1. Being the face of the franchise from “jocks and socks” to the last detail of every penny. It’s why he’s an owner.
  2. Winning the “Forbes Championship” every season. He’s prouder of the fortune he’s made with this team than the 3 Lombardis he’s won.
So when any one of us fans think if we don’t have a winning season this year that Mike McCarthy is on the hot seat, think again. Jerry doesn’t think like we do. If we win or if we lose, Jerry Jones is going to do things “his way” with himself as the centerpiece. If winning a championship was THE goal, he would’ve made changes at the top a long time ago.

So as we prepare for another season, I still have hope we can go on a deep playoff run. We have a very good roster and I do think McCarthy is one of the best head coaches we’ve had since The Big Tuna or Jimmy. But if things go south and we somehow don’t make the playoffs, it won’t make Jerry as unhappy as it will us.
You give Jerry too much credit. He wants to win as badly as the rest of us. He is just too much of a football dummy to do it right. He simply sucks at his GM job. Look no further than the entire Zeke catastrophe as evidence of that.

Once again, Jerry does not want to win as bad as the rest of us. He even admitted this when he said he would have been fired long ago with his record as GM if he wasn't also the owner.

That. That right there destroys any claims of Jerry wanting to win as bad as I do. I would have hired the best GM I could find if I owned the Cowboys.

Since that quote by Jones exists then there is no truthful argument to be made that Jones wants to win as badly as I do. The same goes for anyone else who would do the same thing I would if they were Cowboys owner.

Quick, the bottom line for me is about results. Especially when it matters most- in the playoffs. My problems with Jerry aren’t personal. And I’ve said many times on this thread, the front office he leads has done a good job in the draft and in talent acquisition the last several years. Kudos for that. But the lack of playoff results are unacceptable.

I just want to win multiple playoff games in a row in the same year for a change. Whatever stands in the way of us not accomplishing that I oppose. The only guy who has been at the helm all these years we haven’t accomplished that is JJ. Again, it’s not personal. It’s about results.
Name me the teams that have results in the playoffs year in and year out......I can probably guarantee a HOF qb beind ceter. It isnt some great GM, or some supposed great coach...its a great qb.

It was amazing how Payton needed a little time away from the game as soon as Brees retired.
Its amazing how the "Patriot way," doesnt seem to be working any longer.
Its amazing how the great Colts no longer have success
Amazing how that Juggernaut Broncos team now sucks
Amazing how the Giants aint done much as of late
It is astonishing how the amazing Andy Reid went 765 years coaching and no SB wins, yet he has 2 as soon as Super Mahomes arrived.
Amazing how the Bengals couldnt spell super bowl since 1989 and as soon as Burrrow shows up, wala.....

Life in the salary cap era isnt hard... get a HOF qb, or suffer yer after year after year.

Yea yea yea...... but once every 6 or 7 yrars an ok team wins a SB.....ok, then they disappear right after.

Put Mahomes on the Cowboys the past 5 seasons......all of the sudden, Jerry's recipe for success is kicking arse and everyone loves him again.

Sorry Bob, I can’t get past the Jerry doesn’t want to win as much as make money. That’s just plain out not true. He’s got all the money he and his family will ever need. The one thing he doesn’t have is a championship for almost 3 decades. He wants that more than anything no matter what people think.

Jerry certainly wants to win the championship and is trying to do so. If they hit on Cooks, Gilmore, Mazi, and other picks in the draft, they will have a very good shot. They just need to have the Football Gods to put it all together down the stretch. The foundation is in place.

I dont think its so much he doesnt want to win one because i believe he does...He is not willing to give up things that might make it easier for his team to win one which is why most fans are upset with him...wanting to win one and doing what it takes to win one are 2 very diferent things.

I'd give quite a bit to wake up tomorrow with the ability to have Jerry's mindset. You don't become as sucessfull as Jerry Jones without being very, very smart.

Yeah, nothing like a guilty conscience to offer up his honesty.
You could shut down this post pretty easily now after pointing this out.
OR also maybe along with his other quote of I would do anything to win another Super Bowl if you added the condition "as long as I'm given all the credit," that is.
It ain't no harder than that. He felt he never got enough credit for the 90s success and he has been failing at trying to prove himself ever since.

Just think of this wildly simple but critical thinking what if...
What IF he and Jimmy had never been acquaintances/team mates at Arkansas ?

Think of it that way, lol

How about the evidence of being a starter on a national championship team at Arkansas and winning 3 Super Bowls? How about the evidence of negotiating the big tv deal with Fox that made the league and a ton of people rich? How about the evidence of building the current team which is a contender through draft and development and adding a couple of outstanding veterans through trade?

Man Rambo i love your Cowboys heart but, he won 3 SB but in the end wouldnt do what it takes to keep that going... he negotiated good deals that made his rich club even richer (again its not like some humanitarian deal) and third he could easily step into the shadows like a real owner and let Will McClay do his job and the HC be the one who talks to the media which has been proven to help teams win not the circus "ME ME ME" he does....Jerry Jones is a great business man but when it comes to his football team if he is not the face of it then its not gonna happen...surley you see this. What other owner is on Media 4 times a week during the season? Basically undermines the HC and basically tells Will McClay to do the GM job but take no credit for it....

How many SB's has Jerry won since Jimmy and the salary cap? How many playoff wins? Championship games?

But I digress. You are a self admitted homer and no amount of failure can convince of you of anything other than everything is incredible.

Until you start examining his actions. At that point, it's actually quite clear that winning is not at the top of his priority list.
I find that comment laughable.

Jerry wants to win more than anyone. He just sucks at it.

I can't wait for him to cry at the opening press conference at training camp.
"I can be anywhere in the world but I choose to be here."

Right up there with Herb Brooks speech to the 1980 US Olympic hockey team. So motivational.

Reid I don’t disagree with you it helps a lot to have a HOF QB to win in the playoffs consistently…

But since you asked to name the teams w/out HOFers that “get results year in and year out” w/out a HOF QB- Ok not many with same QB…BUT wouldn’t it be reasonable for us to expect some kind of playoff success for us beyond a wild card win once in a while when the following teams have had more success than us in the playoffs w/out a HOFer at QB:
  • SF has played in 6 NFC championship games with 4 different starting (non HOF) QBs in the last 25 years, including 2 SB appearances to our zero. They played in 3 NFC championships the last 5 years with two different QBs!
  • The hated egirls have also appeared in 6 NFC championship games, 3 SBs and won a Lombardi with 4 different non HOF QBs.
  • The midgets have played in 3 NFC championship games, and won 2 SBs (both with borderline HOFer Eli M) and won that other NFC championship with freakin’ Kerry Collins at QB.
  • The ravens have played in 4 AFC championships the last 23 years with Trent Dilfer and Joe Flacco at QB.
All I’m saying here is if two teams in our own division have played in 9 NFC championship games and have won 3 SBs between them since the last time we even won a divisional playoff game, all with the likes of Kerry Collins, Eli Manning (maybe a HOFer), Donovan McNabb, and Nick Foles at QB…couldn’t we have at LEAST made it to even ONE NFC championship game?

I’ve said many times already on this thread, Jerry and the FO have done many good things lately. Good drafts, good rosters. Check. Credit given. But am I supposed to also give the same GM “credit” for not being able to get us to even one divisional playoff win in over a qtr century?

I dont have anything against Jerry Jones personally. He’s a business genius. Brilliant at that. Not necessarily brilliant at football management. Because I just don’t like the results he has been getting in the playoffs and I believe he’s mostly responsible for that. No one has to agree with me on that obviously.

How many Super Bowls did Tom Landry win? How many Super Bowls did the other owners win?

What if they win the Super Bowl this year? They are a contender. Would that make you upset?
