This just keeps getting better. The Giants no longer have Umenyiora, Shockey, Wilson, Strahan, Mitchell, and now Burress. Maybe Pierce will even be penalized for his part in this incident. Jacobs is banged up as well. We may have lost Felix, Kyle and Roy, but we've added the better Roy Williams and our CB situation is much better than it was last year. Not to mention we've even upgraded our 2nd TE. This Cowboys team needs to just keep playing with fire and focus and the sky is the limit.

They've been practically in the same position all year and have lost only 1 game.

This is a sad turn of events, even if it is happening to the Giants. I think its a bit troubling to be laughing and celebrating such matters.

Why? The guy did an incredibly stupid thing because he's a thug.

I'm glad he isnt seriously injured, but he did it to himself. It wasnt like he was some innocent bystander who got hit with a stray bullet.

If he isnt s-canned by the league the commish should resign.

What's so sad about it? It's tragi-comic at worst. The only guy who got hurt was the multimillionaire knucklehead who started the problem and he's apparently not in any kind of critical condition. And he has been caught so justice is going to be served. He will be punished and lessons will be learned. This is only sad if you start from assumption that guns and violence at clubs don't exist. Otherwise, this is probably good news -- he's going to be such a laughingstock that this may deter other potential knuckleheads from doing something similar.

Basically, this couldn't have been written any more funny.

Agreed ...

If you can't laugh at this, then you can't laugh at anything.

Yes that is interesting but it is not like they could hide it. How is the team to put this on the injury report? Burress is on Injury Report for a gun shot.

It would have been reported to the police anyways when he checked into the ER to get medical attention. Doctors blow the whistle too ya know.

Goodell, being a Commander fan, will be more than happy to bring the hammer down on Plax, Pierce and the Giants...after the Cowboy game, of course.

I look for Pierce to be suspended for the last 2 games of the season and Plax to be suspended for 4 games by the league. The Giants will probably put Plax on the inactive list for the final games ala Keyshawn and TO and then try to trade him to, say, Detroit for a 7th rd pick. I think Plax played his last game as a Giant.

REPORT: BURRESS HAD NO CARRY PERMIT

Posted by Mike Florio on November 29, 2008, 11:56 p.m.
We explained earlier tonight that, if Giants receiver Plaxico Burress didn’t have a valid license to carry a concealed weapon in New York City, he is facing a mandatory jail term of 3.5 years in prison.
Per the New York Post, Burress does not have a valid New York permit. His Florida permit expired in May 2008.
Though the Post characterizes Plaxico’s maximum criminal liability as one year in jail, mayor Michael Bloomberg made it clear in 2007 that illegal possession of a firearm in New York City results in a much stiffer penalty.
“Last year, our Administration succeeded in pushing through a law that gives New York the toughest penalty in the country for carrying an illegal loaded handgun,” Bloomberg said in July 2007. “Now, if you are convicted, you will serve a minimum of 3-1/2 years behind bars — no exceptions.”
If the phrase “no exceptions” includes “pro football players who scored the winning touchdown in a Super Bowl for the New York Giants,” then Burress has a problem much bigger than the hole in his leg.

Pierce is big trouble as well. Buress and Pierce will be suspended ASAP by Goodell.
No they want. Goodell has a bias for teams in the northeast like the Giants. if these were Cowboy players. they would be suspended already. Goodell is a Cowboys hater, and a joke.

Let the games begin...

The part I find most interesting is that the team is the one that alerted the police to the incident. That speaks volumes to me. I think they have had enough of Burress and see this incident as a way to get rid of him with minimal impact of their salary cap. They have a few key players who will want large contracts and they will not be able to just dump Burress and take a big hit on the cap. Since he signed his big deal, he has been nothing but a pain in the *** and underproductive.

If I'm not mistaken (unfamiliar with NY law), the hospital was required to report the incident to the police, also. I think the team reported it simply because they knew the incident could not be kept under wraps. They came out of it looking "responsible".

Living in NY, I am just SO tired of hearing about how great the Giants are.

Not saying they aren't...but I'm just tired of all the hype....they're already planning for the Giants Jets Super Bowl.
The Giants are no where near a great team. they have the NFL and the refs in their back pocket.they never get holding called on their OL, and they hold on almost every play. thats why they can run the ball so well no matter who the running back is.when is the last time D.Ware got a holding call for him against the giants?they get all the big calls in every game. thats why they keep winning. they are no where near a great team.

You don't have a permit in NY - you're screwed, especially when the gun goes off in public. He's in some big trouble.

I was pretty sure that was in regards to teams who signed players with previous criminal backgrounds.

No way can anyone expect teams to be able to predict who the bad eggs are if there isn't a history.

I don't remember but I don't think the Falcons were fined for Vick.
The police have been to Burress' house multiple times on domestic dispute calls. It's not like he hasn't been in trouble before.

That's the same thing that everyone said about Sean Taylor. Mandatory jail time for weapons offense.

Then he pled guilty to a lesser offense and walked.

I doubt Burress sees a day of jail time.

I think Plax has likely played his last NFL game, period.

Plaxico may face a mandatory sentence if convicted on that charge, but its still the District Attorney's discretion to prosecute or not. The DA could prosecute on a lesser charge or they could plea bargain it out on a charge that doesn't include the mandatory sentence. DAs and judges generally do not like mandatory sentence laws, because it takes away their discretion--so if they do not think the event warrants the mandatory sentence in the law, they simply do not prosecute on that charge. There are always a myraid of other things that he could be charged with--reckless endangerment comes to mind. Also, Pierce's involvement is based on "reports" and innuendo at this juncture, so I wouldn't put him in the slammer just yet.

My guess is unless they just want to make an example out of Burress or unless they don't want to be accused of taking it easy on a celebrity, they'll work out a plea. That's just how all of these types of charges are normally handled. No one wants to go to trial on something like this under normal circumstances. Far too many other more serious crimes out there to prosecute.

I think that was in part because there was some uncertainty about the ability to successfully prosecute the case to its fullest (contradictory stories, not so credible witnesses for the prosecution and the like).

If they've got credible evidence that Burress was in possession of an unlicensed firearm in NYC (let alone shot the damn thing), then they've got all the leverage they need, IMO.

Where are our lawyers and law students?
