He had Carr, Mo, Wilcox, and Church to work with. I challenge you to find a worse starting 4 in the league.

This is the same guy that developed Joe Haden and TJ Ward on a Browns team that was terrible but had a top 3 pass defense.

You can't make chicken salad out of chicken poop, which is exactly what we have him. Amazing that he was able to coach the PS players to INT's, and then gave him crap at basically 4 out of 5 starting positions in the secondary, in a man scheme, and want to blame him for their poor play.

I hope we replace him with someone "better", trust me. But until we upgrade the personnel, we'rd just treading water.

So a top 6 draft pick, the next Deion, and a very highly sought after, highly paid UFA CB are chick crap? These guy have talent, getting it out of them is part of the coaching responsibilities. I would also say that these guys are probably in the wrong system, but after 4 years, they should have picked up the system better. And yes the FO can't evaluate DB's. That is why I hope they don't draft any in this year's draft.

What on earth makes you think he didn't have a hand in recommending the talent we had?

He was pretty much front and center in the draft room high fiving after we drafted talents like Claiborne, Ahmad Dixon, Mitchell, Wilcox, B.W. Webb and Matt Johnson.

I'll put the Claiborne mess on the FO, there is a slim and none chance that Jerry & Co.'s decision to mortgage the first and second pick was anyone's decision outside their own perceived brilliance.

Position coaches don't spend thousands of man hours watching film on draftees. We probably have close to 20 guys on the payroll for that.

Is that so? So why was Ciskowski drummed down because he couldn't bridge the gap between the coaches and the scouts?

Coaches get involved late in the process and depending on how much and how loud they squawk, they can have a huge impact on who gets drafted. I do know he was all happy and proud with several of these prospects when they were drafted, like he had an emotional investment.

All I can say is that I can't sit there and say that Henderson was just some poor deprived coach who never got talent to work with. He had several premium draft choices including a top ten choice in Claiborne that cost a second, a very expensive free agent in Carr, several other middle round picks as well.

He probably should have been flushed with Rob Ryan.

Agreed.

I think Henderson ranks right up there with Wilson as far as being inept.

You are going a little overboard here, Michael.

I know you have a special place in your heart for cornerbacks, but let's not get all insane here.

I don't think he did much for the safeties either.

Gave this guy the highest ranked free agent corner and highest ranked corner in the draft and what did he give us?

I'm not saying he's blameless, but knowing what we know about Claiborne, he was going to be a bust anywhere. I suspect had we done our due diligence, and actually interviewed him, we would not have taken him.

As far as Brandon Carr goes, his tenure here was not a complete flop. He did not live up to his $50 million dollar contract, or what ever it was, but given the nature of free agency, that was a long shot at best. I thought in 2012, he was a really good player. In 2013, I thought he was really good until that game against Detroit. Calvin Johnson just destroyed his confidence and he was never the same player. He did rebound some towards the end of last year and this year, but I would not place all the blame on Henderson.

The Floyd debate was between Marinelli and the scouts, a defensive coordinator, not a position coach.

Henderson had Haden as a DROY candidate, developed TJ Ward, and had one of the best pass defenses in the NFL with the Browns, with a good number of turnovers. He can coach.

Are we really trying to sit here and exclaim what amazing talents Morris and Brandon are?

I'm not entirely disagreeing with you, but repeat out loud that Brandon and Morris are truly talented. Try not to laugh.

I just think it's more of a FO and talent issue, and Henderson, while underwhelming, is taking the fall for a FO that made a few terrible decisions starting with the Mo pick, then the Carr contract, then ignoring the safety position completely(probably because they already made two bad decisions in allocating so many resources terribly to other positions in the secondary.)

I recall years ago that fans (including myself) were ready for Campo to go in which I was glad.

Now fans are feeling the same about Henderson.

Maybe it's the scheme or the players that this organization drafts and/or signs.

The General Manager and Head Coach are both evaluating another area on the team incorrectly.

This is also a good thread to start a few suggestions or input on new secondary coaches.

Any DC's canned with solid assistants? I always liked Thurman, he have any assistants? I just hope we dont hire some Garrett/Jerry crony that plays poker with them on Rowdy Wednesday's at the ol' Jerry Corral.

Marinelli was the DL coach in that draft. Kiffin was the DC. But carry on.

Are you really trying to sit there and claim he had them jammed down his throat?

There was a distinct movement after Ryan's first year. We had to get better in pass defense and went corner-crazy.

You believe he was mute in the entire process of identifying Carr as worth the money and the entire "next Deion" fiasco?

I am not even getting into the times he was yukking it up in the draft room on the War Cam after we took garbage like B.W. Webb.

It is not a singular scouting process in Dallas. I thought that was pretty clear. The position coaches have their voices and if they don't go directly to Jones, they go to the DC who has his say. And since we lack a real GM, it is a jumbled stew that has no direction.

I'm not entirely disagreeing with you, but repeat out loud that Brandon and Morris are truly talented. Try not to laugh.

So he had no role in the process of developing or utilizing either?

Said it when Lovie Smith was fired. I would take Leslie Frazier.
