You think Brinkley and McClain are comparable talents? LOL

That's a joke. McClain is a catalytic type player. Brinkley has not shown that ability.

Also are we ready to ignore that Brinkley is 4 years older and was a 5th round talent verses McClain being a 1st?

Also are we ready to ignore that McClain CAN play well in the nickel role while Brinkley cannot?Given the health of Lee isn't that worth... you know... A lot?

Brinkley isn't a head case with a drug problem and now a concussion problem that has retired twice already

Keep putting your eggs in the McClain basket and all you will get is scrambled eggs

Ro has his own issues. But to sit here and say that he is only marginally better than Brinkley ON THE FIELD is gross incompetence or delusion.

I'll leave it to you to tell us which.

LOL!!!!!!!!!!HAHAHA!!!!!!

2013 Ware, Hatcher, Hayden, Selvie, Durant, Lee, Carter, Scandrick, Carr, Church, Wilcox
2014 Mincey, Crawford, Hayden, Selvie, Durant, McClain, Carter, Scandrick, Carr, Church, Wilcox

They had the same team minus two pro bowlers and went from worst to respectable. Proof is right in front of you as to who makes us a LOT better.

They went from worst to respectable because they didn't have 20 guys playing on the d-line. Every week someone got hurt on our d-line in 2013 that's going to take a lot out of any team.

With McClain you get the whole package, on and off the field

You can stick your head in the sand all you want, it doesn't change the truth

They were also on the field for over 100 less plays and were a lot fresher because of it

You said Ro was only marginally better and you were talking about on the field. Even estimating snaps played.

You're trying to change your argument. And failing.

I said "At this point" which includes all factors. That means who we have signed, what McClain's problems are, his salary and his reliability.

You are only focusing on the on-field. McClain is better, but he isn't great. Brinkley is a solid run stopper and so is McClain. The upgrade isn't worth the problems or price to me.

A running game on offense might have something to do with the improvement on defense. I love McClain and want him back. He did provide a sense of toughness, but is also a bit of a head case. However, I salivate at the thought of him and a healthy Lee (may not ever happen but the guy is a great player when on the field) playing together with a dominant pass rusher in front of them. Combine that with a good running game and we have a formula.

Looks like they agree with me since Brinkley is on the team and Smoky isn't

But thanks for the input

actually by the looks of it, since they're negotiating with him to stay and all, they're not

They signed Brinkley for 2/6.5m and they brought Hayden back for the minimum, lets see what they offer McClain

Not joking at all. I don't know what McClain centric universe you guys live in.

I said at this point.........We already have Brinkley, Hitchens and Lee to play the Mike.....that is what McClain does best.....

He is not great in coverage and would come off the field in Nickel anyways.....We are talking about getting reps in the base D which is around 50% of the snaps.....he is not much better than Brinkley and a lot less reliable in that run stuffing role....HENCE marginally better...

Last year he saved our bacon when Lee got hurt and nobody believed in Hitchens, but this isn't last year

He didn't come of the field against Seattle, thank god.

YOU ARE REACHING, STOP!

You said....

At this point, getting McClain back makes us marginally better.

Hitchens-Brinkley-Lee is a solid unit with Rivers, Watson, Gachkar, Wilber, Smith, Lawrence as back up

McClain would bump Brinkley to the bench in the base
Nickel would still be Hitchens-Lee

You were not talking about any off field issues. You were talking about on the field success.

Your statement that Ro to Brinkley is only a marginal upgrade is asinine.

You should stop.

Agree about the effect of the running game. But even with a healthy Lee, Ware and Hatcher, the D had trouble getting off the field. Last year's team was far from elite but they were much better than the 2013 team in creating turnovers or making a stop. Last year's D was much more of a team and held each other accountable better. And this is coming from a Ware and Hatcher fan (wanted to find a way to keep one or both).
