According to a report from the Charlotte Observer, the Carolina Panthers will not bring defensive end Greg Hardy back to the team next season. Hardy had been seeking a long-term contract with the Panthers around this time last year, but the team elected to place the franchise tag on him instead.

Hardy then played only one game in 2014 before being placed on the Commissioner's Exempt List due to his domestic violence issues. Hardy was found guilty of assaulting and threatening to kill ex-girlfriend Nicole Holder last year. He appealed for a jury trial, which begins next week.

If Hardy is found guilty again, it would likely trigger a minimum six-game suspension under the new personal conduct policy. Whether found guilty or not, Hardy's upcoming free agency will be an interesting case. We've already seen that NFL teams will not shy away from signing players with baggage -- the Bills just signed former Dolphins offensive lineman Richie Incognito, who was at the center of a bullying scandal two years ago -- if they are able to contribute on the field.

Having made various mistakes in my life growing up, I think everyone at least deserves a 2nd chance. Having said that I wouldn't mind if we signed him but I would like, if possible, for the team to put in a clause to have him go to counseling. Help him get his life together. If he refuses to get counseling that "may" tell me that he doesn't want to change his behavior or doesn't think he has an issue (which would cause me to withdraw any offer/s).

we sign Murray but all I hear is Adrian Peterson didn't play all season and pulled a switch on his kid,

Hardy is maybe a top 40 player in this league where AP is a top 10.

I'm not saying go get AP but I don't understand the inconsistencies.

Next month, Peterson turns into a 30 year old running back.

I wonder what his defense is actually. Is he claiming it was self defense or that she did this to herself?

Last go around it was that she was high, drunk and flew into a jealous rage. They also claim that she threw herself into the tub. Hardy was actually the one that made the 911 call according to all of the local press I have read. One of her friends plead the 5th when asked if she and the girlfriend snorted cocaine together that night and she did in fact test positive for it.

My honest opinion, she was a little nutty, got really drugged up and crazy and he probably got tired of her crap and lost it briefly.

Currently, the girlfriend is MIA, and Hardy's defense team is much better prepared because they hired their own stenographer. He could very well be acquitted and The state of Texas could give a hoot about his love of guns.

And will still be the most athletic RB by a mile.

The guy is not normal and not playing much the last 3 years will at least keep him at an elite level for a couple more years.

He was found guilty by a judge in court. Now he will have an appeal heard by a jury.

In that state the initial trial with only the Judge, it's similar to a Grand Jury where the Judge acts as a filter to save the trouble of sending unnecessary cases to a jury trial. If there is an possibility of guilt, then the Judge convicts and it goes to a Jury trial.

Jason Cole from BleacherReport is now reporting that the woman and Greg Hardy have reached a financial settlement. His source says she may now not show up to the trial, with the State going to try to serve her. The Prosecutor will attempt to cite that settlement and may move to have testimony from the first trial admitted if she does no show, which is not supposed to be admissible in NC law.

It's interesting to read the justifications all in the name of signing a player who can help the Cowboys win. Desperation has a way of making hypocrites of us all. Just saying. ;)

I didn't think you could settle a criminal case can you? And does the league see this as an admission of guilt by Hardy and suspend him anyway?

Put aside the results of a trial. Do you believe he assaulted his girlfriend?

I don't see how they could.

They'd find themselves in court yet again, which is the last thing the league needs right now.

I believe there was an altercation of some sort.

I do not however believe there was a clear cut 'damsel in distress' or 'victim'.

It took two, and they tangoed.
