Not if the team had been fine with what the Cowboys were willing to offer in draft pick compensation. It seems it might be Quinn driving this bus seeing if he can get more money out of NO than Cowboys. I suspect Miami already knows what NO is willing to offer for Quinn.

There is a bit more to this in moving parts than a traditional situation where the player Val's the shots. The team is calling the shots on this one.

The player has some bearing on the outcome because he can refuse to do a new deal, but the team also has to get the compensation it wants on the table too.

I'm not saying you are not correct, I'm just saying that with more moving parts involved I'm not sure you can eliminate other scenarios based solely on the fact that the player is visiting another team.

Lawrence isn't a top 5 DE in the NFL.

1. Mack
2. Chandler Jones
3. Joey Bosa
4. Melvin Ingram
5. Calais Campbell

These 5 off the top of my head that are ahead of Lawrence as DE. If we include players along all of the line he isn't even in top 10 defensive lineman.

Not based on production or statistics they're not.

Well, he’s outsacked/outhit those DEs, and made more plays in the run game.

But Mack is an OLb.

Problem is cap goes up every year.

So teams overpay for average to above average guys. It’s the going rate. It’s the reason guys like Dak, Cousins etc will get 20+ a year

There are already 20 QBs making over 20 mil per.

Nice try, but I'm not the one "emotionally" being mad at the player for not having surgery, while giving the team a free pass for what they're doing. I'm being rational, fair, balanced and treating things equally.

You want to talk about the team's"rights" while at the same time dismissing those of the player. It is your "emotions" which are on full display.

Again, nice try.

Lol. It's within the players right to do whatever he thinks is best for himself. It's probably not smart in this particular case. I don't really consider any of it dirty pool.

I think Tank is being a bit self destructive by not getting the surgery.

If I were the team I would have flipped him for picks already.

If the team doesn't flip him for picks SOON then I think it is clear that the team is going to use significant leverage to force Tank to sign with them long term or call his bluff on missing the season, which I don't think he will do.

Tank has a limited shelf life. He would be remiss to piss off $20m per year.

I'm glad to see you acknowledge that the player has rights too.

If I were the team I would have flipped him for picks already.

You've made that point clear, but what "picks" you're talking about isn't clear. And even less clear is what you could or couldn't actually get.

If the team doesn't flip him for picks SOON then I think it is clear that the team is going to use significant leverage to force Tank to sign with them long term or call his bluff on missing the season, which I don't think he will do.

And he will continue to use his leverage in delaying surgery. Two wrongs not making a right.

Tank has a limited shelf life. He would be remiss to piss off $20m per year.

I can't envision him doing that. And I don't take it as a given that the Cowboys have offered him $20 million a year. I think if they had, this deal would already be done.

My bad for not googling exact cap numbers on all QBs

More so, my point was people overpay for mediocrity in free agency. That’s what I was getting at

I am by no means calling Lawrence average, he’s a beast. Just saying he will be paid based off market value

And I was simply adding to what you said, because clearly there aren’t 20 plus QBs worth paying that much....

No need to be so defensive, information is good for everyone.

I think Lawrence has earned the right to be the highest paid DE. The disconnect seems to be the Donald/Mack precedents set by those deals.

Not defensive :) I just tend to type without googling at times so definitely my fault

Appreciate the correction!

If a worm had a machine gun the birds wouldn't try to eat him. It's still funny that you seem to want to put the failure of Tank to sign on the Team rather than the player.

The highest paid DE? Based on what? Being a Cowboy? He may not have been the best pass rusher on his own team by season's end, and he refuses to get surgery on an ongoing injury that people seem to want to give him a pass on because of it.

That's some non linear logic going on right there. Lol

That's the point you continue to miss. You want to assess "blame" to one party alone - Tank. It's part of your agenda.

I'll place blame on both sides where it fits. It's not an either/or proposition for me, I can see more than that.

I agree with you. The Cowboys put themselves in a bind by not making this deal before they signed their contracts and reset the market.
