I thought most pro athletes had clasues in their contracts preventing them from riding motorcycles, skiing etc.... Hopefully he is ok, he is a good guy hate to see something happen to him.

Didn't know he even rode in the first place. Well he's an idiot too because for many motorcycle riders its not IF you'll be in a accident but its WHEN.

I had a teacher a couple years back who was going home from school on his bike and for some reason he lost control and crashed into a pole that sent him flying. He broke one arm, hurt a leg, and had head injuries that if he hadn't worn a helmet he would have died. He still rides but always with a helmet and tries to spread the word to his HS students that they should never ride without a helmet

I had a very good friend killed on a motorcycle. You have to be a moron to ride a motorcycle to begin with. Taking it one step further and not wanting to use a helmet while exposing the other 90% of your body doesn't seem like a stretch to me. You're already demonstrating limited common sense when you hop on one to begin with.

It's kind of an image thing and yeah I know it's stupid. It's just what riders do. I'm not excusing it, because it isn't smart. I've had crashes where the helmet saved my life and I know it did. One wreck I had on a dirt bike when I was 16, the bike landed on my head and the helmet dented the gas tank in about 2 inches. If that had been my bare head it would have crushed my skull.

Well, you know it's moronic.

I think it's inexcusable to put your life at such a risk.

Just about every time my five-year old sees someone riding a motorcycle without a helmet, he points it out and tells me that "they aren't being safe."

they say the mind is a terrible thing to waste... but some dope like Ben should consider even safely driving road debris or a pebble could cause loss of vision (and his contract and future in the NFL).

Roethlisberger hurt in motorcycle crash

Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was injured when his motorcycle was involved in a crash on the 10th Street Bridge today.

Roethlisberger was injured shortly after 11:30 a.m. at the Second Avenue side of the bridge near the Armstrong Tunnel.

Steelers' spokesman David Lockett confirmed Roethlisberger was involved and is being treated at Mercy Hospital.

An eyewitness said she saw a motorcycle headed outbound on Second Avenue as a car was coming inbound. The car made a left turn toward the bridge in front of the cyclist. The motorcycle hit the car and the operator flew into the windshield and then hit the ground.

The witness said she went to the aid of the motorcyclist and asked his name. He said it was "Ben" and tried to get up, but she told him to stay still.

The victim was bleeding heavily from a head injury.

At fault for the accident or not, he's a) an idiot for not wearing a helmet and b) is likely violating the terms of his contract by riding in the first place.

Well, I have to say, I did too without helmet most of the time. Not in US though. I dont think I would do that in US, too much of risk, due to the speed involved.
