I always wondered what drives these players who were blessed with a big time money making set of skills
to throw it all away like this.
What is the thought process here?...Forget about winning anything, players come and go,yet most never risk their careers because getting high is more important than making a living.
I just do not get it....and why keep him around?
There is no upside anymore.

Yeah, because RO comes ready to play after a long break.

I think he would be ready.
It depends on his cost, if he now gets paid per games he actually plays, and doesnt count against the roster, then
the smart thing is to keep him for later on.

Agree he should be cut but the smarter play is to keep him on the team just in case we have a catastrophe at LB. Hopefully he won't be needed and/or will retire or something. But right now he's a free ride for the team not taking up a roster spot. I don't know the players union contract well enough to say he gets no money from the team and IDK if he can be cut while suspended. My guess is he can but IDK for sure.

While he is suspended he does not count against the 53 correct ? Plus his contract is a 1 year performance laden contract, so he loses all the money for the 10 games, plus the performance clauses as well. That being said, keeping him around is the wrong answer. He needs to be shown the door today, Jerry can do it as diplomatically as he likes, but Ro no play no more. We are now down 4 starters from last year (with RB's elbow fracture) and we haven't even started training camp yet ! I see Hitchens and Gashkar battling it out for MLB, Lee and Wilson at WSLB and Wilber and Nzocha ? (sp) at strong side with maybe even KIng as well. McClain just has to go. This is one of the tough decisions Jerry just HAS to make .... (Tough for him, not for us armchair GM's).

Those calling for him to be cut will be disappointed because he won't be. Not since he won't count against the 53 until he returns. I wonder if he will appeal. Once he returns we can take a snapshot of the LB situation and determine what we will do with him then.

What's it going to be then, eh?

It usually takes Ro 4-5 games to round into shape...

So what you are saying is "Let's keep him for the Superbowl run"...

;)

That kind of delusional optimistic nonsense borders on arrogance. It is no way to run a football team.

Oh no, won't put Jaylon Smith on IR, he might be able to make it for the playoffs.

Like they seriously sit back each and every day and assume they are even close to sniffing a Super Bowl run.

That is what is wrong with this franchise nearly as much as the poor personnel decisions.

Sometimes what you don't do is just as just as damaging as the mistakes you make when you do.

No reason to ever bring him back......he is too unreliable and not all that good when he is around

if he returns will destroy every thing garrett has tried to do in dallas which isn't much will give lots of trouble in the lockeroom he was given special permission to miss other players will see this they have to release him or lose the team for the coaches.

Will not be the 1st time I have been disappointed but does not change how I feel or what I would do in this situation. Cowboys will do what they choose to do none of us have a say in that but again I can only say what I would do. I don't think Dallas needs this hanging over them any longer and allowing him to remain I think sends a weak message. He does not want to be here, he will continue to make excuses why he can't be here during workouts and OTA then returns over weight and out of shape. The guy is in it for a check and those are the players that need to be weeded out just as Irvin said when Jimmy came to Dallas, weeding out players who were only looking to collect a check. They can collect it elsewhere.

he made 23 mil guaranteed with oakland, and still has a large portion of that, so he isnt hurting for money.
That is part of the problem.
Jerry told him back in 2014 he should still try to make more while he can in football.

Evidently like some other players, he cant quit weed, if that is what it was.

If you're shocked by this, you haven't been paying attention.

And the same think is likely to happen to Gregory, too.
