Believe it but there are various reasons why some people think they are correct. Some people are genuinely concerned about his health, which is admirable but misplaced. Football is football (which some people really do not understand). Perfectly healthy never-been-injured players could step on a practice or gameday field on any given day and get dinged, bruised, concussed, lacerated, internal organ damage, paralyzed or die. Players with pre-existing medical issues could play and not get injured, exaggerate the current injury or sustain a brand new injury. There are a number of possible circumstances that can be considered. No injury (as in zero) that Romo has previously sustained makes him a higher exception to probable injury than any other medically cleared player. That particular fallacy is driven by fans, media and even his peers. It's assumption. Nothing more.I just can't believe some people honestly think Romo would accept a back-up role anywhere, if they have been following his career and knowing his skill level. The guy is not only a football player, but excels in every sport he plays, including golf and basketball. He's way too competitive.
Some people do not want Romo as a starting quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys but are willing to concede having him on the roster only on the condition that he can be the starting quarterback as a result of injury. Ironic. Selfish. In fact, it is smart but it's not a necessity for the team. It's a luxury. Another backup quarterback can be acquired. It has happened thousands of times in the NFL for decades. Another backup quarterback may be worse than Romo. He may be better than Romo. Roster acquisitions come with various degrees of risk and the quarterback position is no exception.
Some people believe Romo is not a competent starting quarterback. That rationalization concludes Romo can only become a backup quarterback.
Some people believe all NFL owners and general managers (except Jerry Jones) share their mindset about Romo's inability to play as a starting quarterback at this stage of his career. Thus, they assume that the only position that Romo could ever seek and attain is as a backup quarterback. Self-pretentious? Totally.
Some people do not want Romo on the Dallas Cowboys roster and have felt that way for a long time. They believe Romo is the primary reason for the team lack of postseason success during his career. However, the same people do not want Romo finding another team and helping that team achieve postseason success while conceding the real possibility of Romo jumping ship. The paradoxical self-resolution hinges upon Romo going to any team where the likelihood of Romo becoming the starting quarterback is small. In other words, Romo's only option would be taking a backup position.
There are other reasons or combination of reasons motivating self-justification of people believing Romo should accept a backup role but those are the main ones.
