rotoworld: All signs point to Owens leaving cowboys *Merge*

FWIW, and in fairness (I think) to those who think Owens will stay, this is what Peter King answered in response to a question on the subject. I don't think it's been posted, but it's at the SI site. He acknowledges he is merely speculating that Owens will be released.

JUST A GUT FEELING. From Marco of Toronto: "OK, Peter. Cowboys Nation needs a little more as to why you predict it will be within six weeks that Terrell Owens is gone.''

No real inside information. Just a sense that Jerry Jones, by the end of March, will come to the realization that he has a better chance to win without Owens than with him. He also knows that the new receiver, Roy Williams, for whom he paid first- and third-round picks to acquire, will never be a great player in Dallas until Owens, who tends to block out the sun, is gone.

There is the link where the Niners traded him to Baltimore for a 2nd round pick in the 2004 draft.

What happened was they allowed him to seek possible trade canidates (so I was wrong as well on part of mine) because he missed the Feb. 21st deadline that year to void the final year of his deal in San Fran and become a Free Agent.

While he was trying to get something worked out with Philly the Niners found a deal they liked with the Ravens and dealt him. He didn't like that, cause he wanted to go to Philly, and refused to go there and take the physical or anything.

Eventually what happened was the Niners had to give the 2nd back to Baltimore, the Eagles sent a 5th rounder to Baltimore, and the Niners got some defensive player and Owens went to Philly where they promptly signed him to a 7 year contract.

Thank link explains the situation pretty well.

I'd take a 3rd rounder so fast Al Davis' flabby skin would flop in the breeze created.

No kidding, way to good to be true, hell Oaklands 3rd would be the top of the 3rd. we'd be really lucky to get that much, imo. I think we still take the cap hit because of the prepaid bonus

exactly! Romo said he wants the whole team to stay which includes Cory Proctor. do you believe he wants Cory to stay?

Cory Proctor and his delayed stance was set up for this years fumblerooki.

It will be all the 2009 verison of the wildcat

Now that is a funny post, all else aside.

He didn't already have a deal with Philly in place because they couldn't have done something like that without getting tampering charges brought against them for negotiating with a player under contract to another team.

Actually, he was allowed to seek a contract with teams to facilitate a trade. He agreed to terms with Philly.

Now say "sorry, I was wrong"

Lordy, does he really think Roy Williams will be a better receiver without Terrell Owens opposite him?

I want Owens gone, but it seems like Lombardi's pulling trade ideas out of his ***. There's nothing solid here at all.

What's funny is that this was the same hopeful-type posting that went on about Wade and when Shanny became available. Jerry said Wade was staying- and guess what- he stayed.

I'm pretty sure Jerry already said TO was staying too. Some just don't believe straight talk. Romo said he wants him to stay and said the WHOLE team wants him to stay- I guess he is just lying...LOL

I've heard and or read bout Jerry saying one thing and then doing another so damn many times in his 20 years of owning the Cowboys it's not funny. Now TO may very well stay but using Jerry and straight talk in the same sentence is laughable.

Al Davis would go down as the "Idiot of the Century" if he makes this trade!

That would mean he let Randy Moss go for a 4th. And then traded to get TO for a 3rd!

I'll take it though......and throw in Tuiasosopho...or however you spell it! For some reason....every time we have played against him, in preseason, or whatever he has torched us!!!!!

Jerry really doesn't play that way with big name guys.

If we were to get rid of TO, Jerry would just end up releasing him. Jerry isn't going to trade him somewhere that he doesn't want to go.

Then that just makes him a bigger idiot

Again, this seemed to be a case of rotowhatever sort of expanding upon what Lombardi actually wrote (unless I missed something, which happens frequently), but either way, I agree with you: Not much to see here.

Jerry swore that Leon Lett had not failed a drug test.

So :lmao: at all you suckers who think Leon Lett failed a drug test.

I agree about the trade. Not even Batty Al would give us a 3rd for him, or probably anything else. But this is the first time anyone has said TO *will* be gone, and it's just a matter of when we announce it.

There were no more drugs when Leon got done;)

After all the talk of him possibly leaving you almost have to get rid of him now.

Not sure it's such a great move some seem to think it will be.
Yeah I'm pretty much ready for this to end, so that the excuses will end. Too bad people will still find a player they don't like as an excuse to why we suck next season.

this is quite possibly the worst logic I've ever had the misfortune of reading in my entire life.

Yup, the best thing that ever happened to Roy is that broken arm, cause now T.O.'s the one everyone wants cut. He's the reason the Eagles made us look like we didn't belong in the NFL.

No way in hell the Cowboys cut, trade, or do anything this year with Owens. The guy has been productive, he was productive last year even with Romo out for 3 games. Roy Williams needs to learn to run sharp routes before we even think about the possibility of cutting him. The guy wasnt even a big problem for us last year. The Cowboys should fix the leaks they have in their clubhouse Soprano style, no way in hell those private WR meeting should be getting out to the public. Its not uncommon, but if its Terrell Owens and it gets leaked to the media theres always a S**T Storm. Its complete bull. The guys a playmaker and while he opens his mouth sometime too much, hes not a bad guy and even his teamates (ala T.Newman) agrees he should be around. When T.O. gets the ball we win, plain and simple. When Romo fumbles, makes errant throws, and doesnt get Owens the ball....WE LOSE. I am a season ticket holder....I say he stays....these people in the media dont know their head from their ***. I gurantee he's back, and has another 10 TD, 100yd season.
