Rule on arm moving forward

And the location of his arm is irrelevant. That's fan nonsense. It only matters if the arm's going forward in a throwing motion. It was, so no fumble.

Embarrassing thread.
I'm pretty sure @Jenky was being facetious, but you're right, it's an embarrassing thread. I'm glad I don't watch games in public with some of these people.

All I know is at some point this season a similar play will involve Dak and it will be ruled a fumble and upheld by NY.

Just on common sense, it was clear that that ball was in his hand firmly and was knocked out before he released it as part of a throw. The arm was well behind the head.

I don't get that rule at all. Does someone want to explain why that SHOULD be a forward pass?
In the “old days”, that was a fumble. Now, incomplete pass. The irony? Had that been Dak, we all KNOW what the call would have been. Well, except for Trolls, ABD’s, and scoffing “realists”…

Yeah, arm was moving forward so it was a pass and for me, I think they should keep the rule like it is. You invite another round of interpretive bs if you confuse it with refs interpretation of what is a pass and fumble.

Much like the crap we dealt with few years back when they try to define what was a catch and not a catch. No thank you

Then what the hell constitutes an empty hand,or is this a 2021 rule change specifically? I mean if the rule says that it is the correct call, but it seems completely inconsistent with the empty hand standard.
Empty hand is when the QB loses the ball before his arm starts moving forward.

You actually make my point. The Dez catch was obvious and the technicality of the rule was wrong. Hence they changed it.

Welcome to my world, you two.

agree 100%. Just like parts of the catch rule, the roughing the QB rules, PI rules…they are terrible, don’t pass the common sense test, and make the league look like a joke. I don’t care that it was a Cowboy game and I know it was the right call per the current rule…but common sense says that’s a fumble as the QB hadn’t voluntarily released that football from his hand before it was knocked out, the fact his arm was going forward is irrelevant in common sense land

exactly who cares if arm coming forward. Still have possession and ball knocked out fumble. If ball leaves your hand first then touched incomplete pass. Common sense

I understand your POV, but it's the least subjective way to define it and have consistency, and not give the officials more latitude to change games

The point I am trying to make is that you are absolutely correct based on any objective observation.

But you are wrong based on the rule.

Hence, the rule is bad.

Just like Dez’s “drop”
The rule doesn't apply here though, it shouldn't have. No matter what his arm did, the ball has to move forward for it to be a forward pass. Yes his arm moved forward, but the ball went backwards and was therefore a fumble.

Best look here for folks that don't believe that the arm was going forward.

Yep! Arm going forward, incomplete. Good shot, correct call, I stand corrected.

I would, however, not bet on an identical call had that been Dak. The calls are consistently inconsistent:

Incomplete—Brady, Rodgers, Worthlessburger, Mahomes, etc.

Fumble—Dak, whomever QBs the Jets, Jags, Lions, Browns, Bears, etc.

The ball moved forward before being hit by DLaw. The arm and the ball were both moving forward when the ball was knocked out of his hand. The direction in which the ball was deflected is irrelevant, just as it would be in the case of a fumble.

Thank goodness - there is still hope for humanity.

How anyone can see that shot and not have the same reaction is beyond me.
