Oh wait, isn't he that footballinjuries.com (or whatever it is) guy?
He's not going to make less than Trufant. For comparison purposes...sonnyboy;2084958 said:Anyone want to speculate on the deal he ultimately signs?
I say they rip up 2008 and sign a new 6 yr deal that runs from 2008-2013 when Newman hits 35. 48 mil 12 mil sb

The Pro Bowl cornerback and his hometown Seattle Seahawks agreed Wednesday to a $50.2 million, six-year contract that runs through 2013.

Agent Doug Hendrickson said the deal for the 11th overall draft choice out of Washington State in 2003 includes $20 million in guarantees. A $3 million roster bonus due in 2010 effectively means Trufant is due $28 million over the first three years of the contract, making him one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the league.
"This is a great wedding present," his fiancee, Jessica Rankin, said with a grin as large as Trufant's timely windfall while standing inside Seahawks headquarters.
"Yeah, it's a good week for Marcus," Hendrickson said in a telephone interview Wednesday morning.
Last year, Nate Clements signed an $80 million, eight-year contract with the San Francisco 49ers. Last week, the Oakland Raiders traded with Atlanta for DeAngelo Hall and then gave Hall a $70 million, seven-year deal.

Actually O-linemen are often in their prime at 31. It's a different kinda position.CountryBoy1;2085081 said:We also have a potential age issue with our offensive line (all 31 or older this year).

I don't like the amount of money Dallas is putting into old players with relatively longer term deals. Any player over 30 should not be signed to anything longer than 3 years, and they should not be signed to top money.
We already did this with the left OT which I believe was a mistake. I would like TNew for 2 or 3 more years if the price is right. We also have a potential age issue with our offensive line (all 31 or older this year). Time for Dallas to suck it up and let the old vets go and coach up the young guys for future success.
Keeping all the old guys is what we did in the late 90's and we never did see glory again. Too old and too much money tied up = failure.[/quote
I hear you. You have to be careful inking players to long term deals. Especially 30+ guys.
With that said you have to realize that OL and DB as units tend to age well. Safeties don't last as long because they are asked to hit/tackle more. But CB's can last a loooong time. Especially when they're good.
Newman will turn 30 this Sept, but he's only played 5 seasons. Most players entering their 6th season are turning 26 or 27.
More to the point, most players turning 30 this year are entering their 9th or 10th season.
So how do you evaluate Newman? How do you view him? Of course you cant expect the same longevity as a 26 yr old with 5 seasons played. At the same time I do think you can expect more out of him than a 30 yr old with 10 seasons played.
From my experience, probowl level CB's tend to continue peak performance up to the age range 32-34 and seasons played 11-13.
So I think its safe to sign our 29 yr old probowl CB entering his 6th season to a 6 yr deal.

We should be able to afford more than just two of those, though... Especially if Canty doesn't cost a fortune, which I don't think he should.Eskimo;2085117 said:If things fall like I think they will, they should re-sign Ware and Canty and let TNew, Hamlin, Barber, Columbo find employment elsewhere.
