RUMOR: Norm Hitzges: Chiefs interested in trading LJ to Cowboys?

Even the bill Parcell's detractors can admit he brought better talent to this team.

He did this by aquiring them a certain way, a way that he hopefully schooled Jerry on. Quite possibly it was a big reason he was hired in the first place, to right the ship.

So far so good.

In this rumored scenario, I'd keep it rolling by keeping our talented players and our picks. If Jerry feels the urge to sway from the method...let him buy a free agent....that should be enough to satisfy his big splash desires.

I understand that you wouldn't do it. I wouldn't even consider it.

As I said I wouldn't trade MB3 with contract as is, for LJ with his salary demands. Straight across. I wouldn't do it.

If we could do that trade and ensure Newman/Romo were retained and still be in a good cap situation, how could you not do that deal?

Or are you thinking we wouldn't be in one after the LJ deal...?

But if thats the case, then how would we be able to afford whomever we draft with Clevelands pick (their salary will be similar to what LJ will probably be getting)?

And the wear and tear issue is moot. Yeah, 400+ carries is a lot for last season, but with the ball spread out to Owens, Witten, and Glenn, he'll get enough rest. Oh, and I don't want to hear that him and TO will fight over the ball. If the team is winning and they're getting paid, they'll both shutup no matter how many catches or rushes they get.

I've been back and forth on this deal since I saw it posted. I decided if the salary cap issues (contract) can be worked out at a deal that benefits the Cowboys and LJ ... do it no matter which 1st round pick they want.

People will say, "oh, but we can get McFadden."

To be honest with you all, I'm not sold on McFadden, he goes down very easy and doesn't have great moves with the ball. But, LJ is a proven back. Plus, with LJ, there won't be a need for McFadden. The team in two years will have few glaring holes (except for age at WR and a NT). The first round pick that we do have could be a WR and 2nd rounder at NT and I'd like for any of you to give me another team need.

I say, figure out the contract, then make the trade.

CB will be a team need very soon. Henry and Glenn are in their 30's and TNew will be in a contract year.

We rushed the ball 402 times last year with Jones and Barber. A bulk of that (say, 320) would go to Johnson....

80+ carries for the backup...

We'd be fine.

RBs acquired from other teams rarely are as good as they were with the previous team. Occasionally one steps up and performs well. Usually that is not the case. I think they get used to certain ways that their OL blocks, and when they don't have that constant, they falter.

The cost of a 1st round pick for a RB is one I simply would not pay unless it is LT. I just wouldn't. Cleveland's pick simply isn't worth it, and neither is ours.

Now, if you are talking about a 2nd round pick, or a 3rd. I will at least consider it. IMO the greatest RB ever to be traded was Marshall Faulk. He cost a 2nd and a 5th round pick. LJ isn't in his league. He just isn't.

A huge chunk of salary cap that we would have to use THIS year. That could handicap us regarding signing Romo.

I like my MBIII alot. I like both our first round picks too. I dont know I would do this deal. JJ and LJ seems cool, but LJ and MBIII would be a terror for defensive coordinators and linebackers. So I think I would have to pass on MBIII involved in this trade.

Eric Dickerson > Faulk. :D
And as I said, he was never the same again.

The Rams ended up with Greg Bell and 3 first round draft picks. That didn't pay off for them either.

That's a heck of a blanket statement. Are we talking about just trades, or just free agents or all RBs acquired from other teams?

Trades.

I've backed that blanket statement up so far.

I can see it for RBs acquired by trades only, but there's a pretty good reason for that. Most teams don't want to trade RBs that they think can be productive.

Maybe he boinked the GM's wife?

Seriously, though, I've never bought into the Spagnola Theory.
