Most likely, but he would still get regulated to 3rd QB on all but a few teams that have really bad qb situations... in which he might be the backup. So, clearing waivers isn't saying much.
So the team with the bad QB situation gets him closer to being a starter.

The Cowboys haven't had Lance for four years.
And his injury shortened his time in San Francisco.
For all practical purposes, Trey Lance is a rookie number one pick.
And the Cowboys need to know what they have.
San Fran determined Sam Darnold was ahead of him. I trust Shanahan and Lynch’s evaluation over ours.

And even then Cowboys had a second round grade on him.

Instead of fantasizing about Trances potential, can people just see where he is at after 4 years in the NFL, compared to what he was coming out of college.

In 4 years he has not improved, why do people believe he will ever reach his potential.
4 years 4 years not a real 4 years.
8 years 8 years. Has been 7 years and what 5 games.

Trey if given the chance may not need 8 years may only need a true 2 years.

Meh, like I said. "Dak"-Cope. If Lance looked like a beast, I'd be more onboard but he just didn't. I am a person who requires evidence just like I have evidence that Dak will never get us beyond what he has already... Same thing. Now with no viable option outside of the draft I have a more difficult time just accepting a change.

What's the plan? If they plan to draft someone instead of paying Dak or bring in a much cheaper stop-gap + draft, I can get behind that but Lance isn't a real option to me.
Naturally, a lot of fans are going to see whatever good they can find in Lance because they want so badly for Dak to be replaced. Some still can’t get over Lance’s draft status as the third overall pick and that SF gave up three first round picks to draft him. Even Jerry seems to be blinded by Lance’s draft status. There was a quote by Jerry posted on the board not long ago where he said he could see why San Francisco gave up three first round picks for him.

I agree, not arguing your points. Lance was a dart to me. 4th round pick for a "possible" 1st round talent QB. IMO it was fine to throw that one but from what I've seen it isn't working out but don't really care that much. The hope is they continue looking for the next ACTUAL super-star QB. It isn't Dak (lots of real proof) and it definitely isn't Lance (obvious proof also).

It was a dart throw for the Joneses. Anytime you bring in a young QB that’s failed with another team you’re rolling the dice. I remember in 2001 when Jerry signed Ryan Leaf. He started three games for us and we lost all three. When you get desperate, you do desperate things. This is why I think Jerry is trying real hard to get Dak re-signed.

Fan myth. Because fans can’t read defenses, so how can they criticize.
They make things up.
The fact he tossed 5 INTs, including one where he didn’t see the LB drop into coverage, another where he stared down his WR allowing the safety to break the route, says something….

Yeah I think they ARE desperate not to pay $60+ million to a QB that isn't good enough to win the Super Bowl even in the best situations possible. Don't blame them there really but that's just me. How they will ultimately execute that desperation is the ultimate problem. The dart on a 4th round flyer? Who cares in the big scheme of things...

Ah, the mythical year 4 mantra. Which is not a true 4 years of actual on the field experience.
But hey you all need that as part of your narrative to make it more legit. Which is far from it.
Its 4 years of NFL coaching with two of best QB developers in the NFL. If he absorbed any of it, he wouldn't have had the awful preseason he did

He is just not an NFL caliber player. Never will be

I blame them for not drafting a real option at the QB position with Daks 2nd contract and they had 2 years to do if after franchising him twice.....and now after 3 years the best they could do was to part with a 4th for a player Shanahan gave up on

Yeah.....I blame them big time

It was an expensive dart with no flight.

They have to "luck" into pretty much everything outside of McClay's selections. They are not football people.

Drop in the bucket to Jethro.... like giving a sky-cap a $5 tip.
It has nothing to do with Jerry personal money. It has everything to do with the salary cap and how it could have been effectively used to better the team, including the 4th round pick.

A drop in the bucket and GM Jethro is playing games with CD's contract. A drop in the bucket and we are a RB committee that intimates no one.

Jerry wants to talk about tough decisions around the Cap and wastes $5.3M and a 4th round pick on project that will never see the field.
