this franchise has managed to lose in the postseason 13 times...so why not think that the coin is a double headed one?
Not a problem... unless at some point you suddenly do not wish to see that coin as double sided in the future.

Sorry, but I'm not buying the argument that Denver is anything more than an average football team. There are 10 teams in the NFL who would have beaten them by 10+ points the way they played today. And, if I'm wrong about that, then the NFL has sunk to a disgustingly low level of mediocrity.

As far as Romo, he did miss open receivers and his linemen for the most part gave him as much time as could be expected. Given that, it really doesn't matter who you're playing--if guys are open, they're open. His lack of pocket awareness also hurt us, but that's almost forgiveable considering the ways he's turned the ball over in the past.

Regarding the Boys opponents, the Giants and Broncos have both started out with extremely easy schedules. Of the teams they've beaten, none currently have a winning record, with Dallas being the biggest test for both of them. If this topic were revisited in, say, week 13, I'd wager heavily that the strength of both those teams will be viewed much, much differently.

We may be overstating the coin flip analogy. Winning football games is not random chance. There's a reason certain teams are consistently competitive while other teams are consistently poor, and that reason is, more often than not, front office management.

Part of the problem may be that our team believes winning is a matter of random chance rather than design.

That's the thing that kills me. Jerry Jones and Wayne may be selling the "Denver rocks!" stuff, but all throughout the game I kept asking myself how were we not leading by more than we were? Even Babe and Brad were talking about how it felt like the Cowboys should have been blowing them out.

Denver's defense is certainly fast -- there's no denying that -- but they did little else right for three quarters. And we were unable to capitalize, as is par the course for this team.

That's more an indictment on that sad state of this subpar franchise than it is the gold standard that is Denver.

I'd say it's neither. Or more accurately, a mixture of both design and chance.

I agree. It seemed like two mediocre teams playing each other but at the end of the day denver wanted it a little more.

While we have lost to good defenses, there was pretty poor play by Romo in the last 3 quarters of the game.
Likewise, Garrett play calling wasn't particularly good.
Defense played well for the most part, some mishaps here and there but good overall.

Romo threw several high "hospital passes" one of which got RW11 hurt.
Romo threw some balls behind his receivers ala "Witten intercepted by Kenny Phillips".
Our OL got destroyed most of the time, especially when they failed to block the "wide open" LBs coming at Romo.
Choice and Barber did well.

Overall it wasn't terrible, but Romo and Garrett need to seriously step their game up if they want this team to succeed.

Dummervil is playing really well in that 3-4, I guess it fits him well.
We were throwing to Champ the entire time, not very smart.
Orton made key passes and Buckhalter/Moreno did well.

It's just frustrating to see the same problems with Romo and Garrett every time we play. We won last week, but it wasn't because our ridiclously good passing game.

There's certainly an element of luck, but teams that win consistently do so because they have been built to.

The Steelers haven't won 2 of the last 3 Super Bowls on luck. The Cowboys didn't wing 3 out of 4 on luck. They won because they have more talent and better coaching than the rest of the league.

I dont think anyone is throwing in the towel yet. I am very close which flies in the face of everything I stand for.

However, dealing with reality and this team means that you have to acknowledge the flaws here.

I thought going into the season that we would struggle early, I thought we would have a hard time throwing the football because in the past when we struggled we would make a huge play in the passing game. We ended up relying on those big plays and that is one of the main things that hurt us as seasons wore on.

Now we are learning to play without those bailout big plays, but in the process we are seeing other flaws that cannot be denied and have always been a thorn in this side.

to top it off we are now becoming an injured team. We have a key player who might have been enough of a difference to open things up today in felix, but he is unreliable. he can not stay healthy and he can not be counted on.

now we had ratliff coming and going from the field because he was banged up, we have sensebaugh out which means teams will isolate watkins and he will no doubt give up big plays. Dont think for a second Todd haley wont attack watkins. he is a big play or a flag waiting to happen.

this team needed this win and the kc game to give them a cushion for the upcoming tougher games, we needed this win to settle the team down mentally, to be able to go into the bye week focused.

Now this team may have serious issues heading into that bye week.

and most importantly when you watch us play for 60 minutes I see no way we can hang with the giants or eagles. So to me that puts more pressure on winning games like today and we didnt.

For whatever reason, I cant put my finger on it and I cant blame one person player or coach this team just finds ways to lose.

We have seen this game repeatedly since 05. the skins game in 05, the oakland game in 05, the giants game in 05, the seattle game in 05, the jax game in 06, the detroit game in 06, we won on the days when we had these games in 07 over detroit, minnesota and buffalo and that was the difference in that season. Last year we saw this game repeatedly also....at arizona, at pittsburgh and against the ravens.

We seemingly do everything right and have the ball on the tee to finish people and we make one mistake which leads to an abundance of mistakes and then in turn costs us a game late.

I dont know how you shake it, I dont know how you pinpoint the problem. the only thing we can hope is the team busts its hump during the week and comes out and plays a tough game and finishes kc off to get a repreive from the crap storm coming going into the bye.

I know I have personally thrown my hands up because it is always something. there wasnt a fluke play today to blame it on, it was a series of poor plays from us and the other team as seems to always happen stepping up and making that play we cant make.

Come tomorrow morning we will all get the usual excuses from the usual people. Unfortunately that is all this organization has, lip service.....oh and party plaza's and a big videoboard.

I am with you Theebs, I am tired of this crap we call a team. I am tired of the losing and of the stupid excuses year after year.

100% agree with the original post.

Am I happy with the loss? HELL NO!

But one loss in the final moments to the number one D in the league and another where, let's be honest, if the ball bounces a different way two or three times in the game we walk away with a win.

So, this new ball control-running game offense has us losing a couple of close games. Guess what? BALL CONTROL RUNNING GAME OFFENSES BY DESIGN WILL BE CLOSE GAMES.

We've been in the fight in our two losses. Am I making excuses? No way. I want to win.

But I'm not about to blow the team up or give up on the season.

We've got to rally behind the Cowboys and ride them to the playoffs... where all bets are off!

I concur on Theebs' fine post, and I think he made a good point about the "bailout" plays. The simple truth is that this team is and has been for some time a fairly "stupid" team. It was even under Parcells. We'll bury ourselves in our own manure if given the opportunity. Until that changes, there will be no consistent ability to finish, no turnover-free Tony, no offensive line play that doesn't cause us to pull out our hair with the false starts, no disappearance of the late defensive collapses, etc.

well a peek into the mind of this team always offers the same thing.

Bradie james said in the locker room tonight, "We dont know how to do it, and until we figure it out we will be up and down..."

that is not inspiring.

and laufenberg said tonight after talking to some people it has become apparent that teams have a strategy of just hanging in their with us till the 4th where they will wait for us to make mistakes.

that is about the sorriest thing you can say about a franchise. Its really bad.

Wow, the whole league knows we are a bunch of chokers now. This is just embarrassing, just sad what we have become.:(

Blueprint for the 08 Cowboys: Take TO Out the game.
Blueprint for the 09 Cowboys: Send the house at Romo, his WR won't get open or he won't complete the pass.

But we're the type of 2-2 team no one wants to face in the playoffs.

Fixed.
