Hamlin missed a couple of games during that period of time. Rolle has also only been a safety for a couple of years. A comparison of their numbers in the last 2 years is an even stronger proof that Rolle is the better player.
Or not.

Over last two seasons (per profootballfocus.com):

Rolle - 72 Targets, 686 yards given up, 5 TDs given up, 3 PDs
Hamlin - 41 Targets, 335 yards given up, 4 TDs given up, 3 PDs

Would you rather have an established vet at the FS position or draft a rookie that has to compete for the starting job?

What do you mean compete? I would much rather have one of the bets cover safeties in NCAA D1 who is a pure ballhawk and a turnover machine who can easily win the FS starting job and can be hold it for 10+ years, much rather over a player who IMO is not that much greater then hamlin, feasts on horrible teams with mediocre QB's, and allows way to many deep balls, who would only be effective for 2-3 more years, yes.

What about tackling stats? How many times did Hamlin whiff or Rolle? Force fumbles? The biggest category that our D needs improvement on is turnovers...4 > 0.
According to profootballfocus.com, Hamlin missed 4 tackles and Rolle missed 14 tackles in 2009.

If someone proves the stats are wrong or if they prove the stats are a poor judge of a safety play, I'll stop. Until then, it seems silly to ignore them.

People have a tendency to think the grass is greener.

I agree with you on the last part. I don't see how much greener Rolle would be here. Definitely not if he wants some serious coin.

But I still think Hamlin sucks.

It's obvious the stats out there are all over the place. Looks as if they'll have to do it the ole fashioned way and actually look at the film and talk to the coaches. As usual.

We can spend a pick on Allen or on an OL maybe even a WR doubt the latter. Or pick up Rolle and take the BPA regardless of position.

After reading this about Thomas I'm a little concerned and just need details on what he was asked to do, I know the kid has talent but sounds like he was spoon fed alot at UT:

Earl Thomas, S Texas

- Measured in at 5-feet-10.5-inches tall and weighed 208 pounds. His current weight is his heaviest. Generally he played for the Longhorns between 198-200 pounds.

- When asked about coverage responsibilities, Thomas was not tasked with doing as such. Instead, the secondary relied on their defensive coordinator who would shout out numbers on their wrist bands. If calls needed to be killed, it was done by the linebackers.

- Acknowledged NFL teams are slightly concerned about his height at the position, and it is less than ideal.

- Thomas will participate in a full workout here in Indianapolis.

You act like he will automatically win the job. I suspect it will be more than just a physical test. He will have to show the coaches that he can handle the mental part of the game before he gets the job and I think Hamlin will beat him there. If you recall this team has a hard time letting rookies crack the starting lineup.

Patrick Crayton was once quoted saying "We don't start rookies here!"

Forced fumbles? Also do the stats break down when these guys were over top in a 2 Man or man-on-man?

FSs don't play man-to-man coverage.

Their INTs per game over their careers are almost identical, and that's despite Rolle actually playing cornerback (a position that tends to garner more INTs) for his first few seasons.

Both players had only 1 forced fumble over the past two seasons. The stats don't break down by coverage. You can look at their website and www.profootballfocus.com

Free safeties rarely play man coverage, so the breakdown would likely not be useful.

http://www.google.com

AdamJT13 makes the claim that it is widely accepted that a single INT is the equivalent of giving up 40 yards. I tend not to agree, but by that analysis, Hamlin still would have better coverage statistics over the past two seasons.

I've watched a handfull of Cardinal games were Rolle was primarily assigned to cover the slot WRs. This occurs mainly on 3WR packages and in that case another safety will be playing deep.

Your agenda is becoming blind, silly and tiresome.
