My only problem with the stats is that both these safeties played in different schemes and had different responsibilities. For all I know we can land Rolle and he would be better or completely worse than Hamlin. From what everyone has been hearing from Valley Ranch folks is that our safety play needs an upgrade. I also recall an article that said there was a cowboy scout that pointed the finger at Hamlin.

The knock on Hamlin is that where he lined up pretty much told the offense what they were trying to stop. If he lined up deep then they were expecting the pass and if he cheated up then they were stopping the run. Also that he reacted slow to what was going on up front. Anybody remember that Mike Jenkins interception in Philly? Why wasn't Hamlin covering deep? If it wasn't for Jenkins superb play that's a TD for Philly.

I'm all about upgrading the FS position via the draft, FA, or both. Something has to improve there.

when did Rolle become a safety? also that's 4 more big plays than Hamlin has made the last 2 years and that's not even including his fumble return for a td to cap the playoff game against ATL in 2008.

I've watched a handfull of Cardinal games were Rolle was primarily assigned to cover the slot WRs. This occurs mainly on 3WR packages and in that case another safety will be playing deep.

Your agenda is becoming blind, silly and tiresome.
Which games?

You act like he will automatically win the job. I suspect it will be more than just a physical test. He will have to show the coaches that he can handle the mental part of the game before he gets the job and I think Hamlin will beat him there. If you recall this team has a hard time letting rookies crack the starting lineup.

Patrick Crayton was once quoted saying "We don't start rookies here!"

:laugh2: if we draft ET in the 1st, he would be the starting FS on this team, take it to the bank, contemplate it all you want.

Wasn't it Jenkins who gave Hamlin the credit as Hamlin told Jenkin on that play Maclin was running the skinny post.

Rolle would be a great pick up. First off he would be an upgrade over Hamlin so we would improve as a team.
Also, the reason I could see us being major players for him is lets face it due to the CBA we aren't going to be active in free agency baring a mircle. With that being said, I find it hard to believe that we would not make any roster moves prior to the draft. This could be one of our only opportunities to upgrade. And it would only make us even more flexible come draft weekend.

Ya because I want Felix and Choice to get the carries.

Thomas Jones>Marion fumblitis Barber
If we pay the money to bring in a FA RB Choice and Jones will not get the carries you want them to. If we got rid of Barber (we aren't going to) it would be for a Draft pick, not a high priced FA.

He sure did but Hamlin only told him to watch him going deep because Maclin jogged out then went to a full sprint. Hamlin should have been there to assist on the tackle but he was late reacting to the play. I don't question Hamlin's football smarts but he has declined physically.

Why was Hamlin the only guy that didn't participate in 1v1 drills against WRs in TC last year? Sensabaugh did...

What about tackling stats? How many times did Hamlin whiff or Rolle? Force fumbles? The biggest category that our D needs improvement on is turnovers...4 > 0.

Hamlin had two missed tackles.

Rolle had fourteen.

It's hard to even get near the play to miss tackles when you play 45 yards off the line of scrimmage like Hamlin does.

He actually lines up in the parking lot according to some, so the fact that he missed a few tackles doesn't bode well for him.

I feel like this has turned into the Spencer/Ellis argument for this year...

I don't think many like Hamlin and the only one really trying to make him into a good safety is Theo for whatever reason.

I believe that reason, which is the only reason, is abundantly clear. It's what the statistics say. If they said something different, I wouldn't be arguing that he's a good safety.
