Schottenheimer on what he wants at RB and OL

Sounds like they want Emmitt Smith in his prime.

Still love the possibilities with the OL. My expectations are very high. Especially after these last few disasters recently.
Jeanty might be the closest thing to that in this draft. Great vision, ability to make defenders miss, surprising power, enough speed. He's going to be slow compared to the speedsters, but so was Emmitt.

Not saying we draft him if he's there at 12, just that there are some comparable traits there. I think Jeanty will be gone and won't be surprised if we take Hampton at 12.

Schotty did seem to be hinting at his RBs being emphasized in the passing game .. that I LOVE to hear with a passion ..!! :flagwave:

My take would be to adjust the line with what will make the offense run with success. Move personnel to maximize. Please dump Steele. I don't give a crap about his damn injury 2 years ago, he is not a warrior in the trenches when needed.....ever. Landry and Jimmie put their personnel in position to win. This isn't complicated......do it!!!!! I could probably name 10 to 15 people here in this forum that could run this team!

That's what i'm wondering ... the quality of RB choices and options beyond Jeanty.

with all of the hype and hoola of Cowboys taking Jeanty, i can foresee an NFL team either picking Jeanty before our 12th overall.. or an NFL team that covets Jeanty
so much, that they package a trade deal to move up and ahead of us at our 12th overall pick...

Especially with the mumbling that this supposedly " deep" RB draft .. cuz if it's that deep in quality, what about the possibility of a quality RB in 2nd Round ?

Else, would McClay risk a reach in first round at 12th overall with a Hampton .. or even a trade down a couple or few spots to draft this Hampton ?

Such a defeatist attitude about the run game. Hey, sometimes teams will just make a commitment to stop the run so we need to pass when they do.

A real running game imposes their will on a defense. They don't give a damn about what your commitment is on defense.

Keep in mind the reason he was let go in Seattle supposedly is he didn't run the ball enough. That was the "philosophical difference" between him and Pete Carroll.
Add “Schotty” to the list of Cowboys’ officials that I have adopted the same philosophy: I will believe it when it happens.

Chances are Jentry won't be there when Dallas picks. At least that's what they are saying. The Joneses have avoided drafting a running back the last few years. Who knows what they do.
they need DL more than a RB. i’d go with a bigger back in later rounds that can pass block, catch ball out of the backfield and still run between the tackles with vision and contact balance to bunch off defenders.

Jerry will probably trade up for him then

I think I like hampton better.

Yeah but he broke Seattle passing records. He already had the #1 running game a couple times, wanted to show he could pass it.

Carroll could have said run it 55-60%, he's the boss. Instead... Carroll got nervous and fired him.
