Serious question for Dak haters

Dak is a good, solid, NFL QB who wants to be paid elite QB money. Unless he leads the Cowboys to a deep playoff run, I would let him walk.

I don't disagree that if he fails to deliver a deep playoff run we need to move on from him. But I disagree with the notion that he just "a good, solid NFL QB." I think he's better than that. Maybe not "great" but he's still improving and could get there. But he could put up historic numbers and this team will still fall short of expectations if the defense keeps giving up 30 ppg. No matter what the talking heads say, it's not ALL on him.

If Dak drops another (or something comparable) 5,000 yard, 33 touchdown/low int season, given last year’s didn’t impress you, are you saying Dallas should let Dak walk after posting two straight seasons like that?

Just curious, or does two consecutive seasons of that caliber change your mind?

I don't consider myself a hater, but I have to question the mentality of anyone labeling someone a hater just for openly criticising a pet player.

To answer the question I want consistency. I need to see them take care of business vs bad teams but against good teams and defenses I want Dak to not be a reason why we lost. Less taking unnecessary pressures and sacks when there's plenty of space or a lane to utilize. Less constantly throwing behind a receiver or at a DB and hoping the WR just bails him out. If we look predictable can we get some presnap adjustments?

Threads like this always happen after a W, but are dead silent after games like last week. No one is saying to be perfect, tired of people bringing that up.

We know who the contenders are, we need to look like contenders in these games and obviously put down the bad teams when we play them.

There is a difference between being a hater and an honest criticism.

The people who couldn't give him credit after the Atlanta game are haters.

If you're being honest you can both hold him accountable and compliment him when deserved.

Stats won't change my mind but W's will. I don't care if he passes for 15 TDs and 3500 yards if the team ends up 12-4 I want to keep him. If we end up 8-8 or 9-7 and out of the playoffs it's time to look in another direction, regardless of any gaudy numbers. Romo had plenty of gaudy number seasons that ended up 8-8 so I got no use for that. Now as things stand 8-8 MIGHT win the division this year so a lot stuff is up in the air about that. At some point I expect Philly to get their ish together and make at least a mild run at it. The Giants are toast and the "Football Team" has a big mean front four but as Kyler Murray and co showed last week they can't catch fast people. There's a lot of fast people in the NFL and the Cowboys have their share..

why not cut the ones who didn’t contribute and carry their load? This seems insanely counter-productive. QB production of this caliber is not normal. Two straight seasons of it is really really not normal.

It's because if he puts up those numbers and we are still just 8-8 the team will have endemic problems that wont be solved by paying the QB (you already have) something close to 20% of the CAP.

I agree he is above average. 40 mill QB he isn't. I'm just afraid he has hit his ceiling as an above average QB. Cant pay above average QB elite money. Dak needs all the support he can get to succeed. Can we keep great Oline, WR's, Running back and TE while paying 40 mil without a scrub Defense?

The bottom line is Ws and Ls. Regardless if you or others believe Dak is still growing and improving as a QB, or Jerry hasn't surrounded Dak with enough talent, this is Dak's 5th year. It's put up or shut up time for Dak imo.

If he is able to get better at his flaws on a consistent basis i would consider to give him a contract. But since he did not show this during his college nor nfl career i doubt it. He just peeked for his talent level.

Again you are missing the point. Getting better with age is NOT the outlier for great players. Now only time will tell is Dak is truly a great player or just a good one but great players who have that hunger will keep getting better until their bodies won't let them anymore. The only thing that worries me about Dak is that he has allowed money to compromise his path to greatness. Demanding ALL the money the Joneses can pay him will almost certainly result in his teams never being quite good enough to reach the Super Bowl because there won't be any money left under the cap to go fill a need that pops up as a season wears on. If Troy had demanded that kind of money we never sign Deion and the '95 Super Bowl goes to the Niners.

I'm not missing any point I just don't agree with you. Getting better with age is just a saying that if you care to explore is just kind of a saying. Dak will put up numbers similar to last season for the rest of his prime with an outlier season here or there. That's who he will be. Dak needs to take less even though I get why he personally doesn't because with all that offense talent he still had too many games where the O looked eh.

Dak's passer rating was 99.7 last year and is 101.7 this year. Both are middle of the pack in the NFL these days. I would argue that this level of performance, while pretty good, is closer to the median than you might think. It's pretty simple for me. If he puts up a bunch of pretty stats and it does not result in wins then we need to be playing a different style and focusing on the things that win games. Gaudy stats don't necessarily win games. Winning plays win games. If Dak averages 200 yards a game but makes the clutch plays that win games that is far superior to me than 300 yards a game but coming up small in the clutch. The bottom line is that if you're not winning are you really "producing on the field?"

Romo was playing like crap that year and had he not gotten hurt that team would have gone 4-12 and he would have led the league in INTs (again!) The injury saved him from abject failure and embarrassment.

Lol all I’m going to say is if he drops another season like last year but let’s say our defense never gels and we have to win shootouts week to week and manage a 7 or 8 win season and miss the playoffs, thinking the front office should let a quarterback that productive walk and they actually do would have every front office in the league calling the Dallas front office a breeding ground for morons. Remember all the times when Garrett and Lenahan were in charge we would open games with the play-action boot and Dak would hit the tight end, Swaim, Witten or Jarwin for a big gain? Moore has yet to use that play early in games that I can recall yet it nearly always worked for us because every team we played loaded up for Zeke on the first series. I am assuming it's something he will get better at as he goes along. He got undressed by better DCs last year and he undressed bad ones. Unfortunately I think there are more good DCs in the league than bad so he's gotta step it up and quickly.

QBR measures efficiency not necessarily high levels of production. To have a QBR that high and throw the ball as much as he does is what’s impressive.
