Shawn Merriman *Several Merged Threads*

Obviously I am biased and a Merriman fan. However lets not over-rate the piss poor OL that the Panthers have either.

They went to the NFCCG and got punked by a Seattle team with a good not great defense.

Carolina beat a Giants team with LB issues across the board and a first year QB, and beat a Chicago team who for some reason thought their secondary was so good they could play straight man on Smith (with no help over the top, HELLO !, does Jake throw to anyone else ?) , not to mention the BEARS had no offense.

I wont take anything away from Carolina's Defense last year, but on offense they were completely one-dimensional.

What does that have to do with anything?

Delhomme was sacked LESS than three times in 15 different games last season. He was sacked more than three times in just two games. Ware got three in one game all by himself. Seattle led the NFL in sacks and got only two sacks as a team.

Just be glad the Skins didn't nab him at #9.

If they hadnt lost Smoot they probably would have. He had been to Commanders Park several times as a guest of LaVar. The need for a corner was greater, than the need for a LB.

I hate free agency.

And BTW - I was just glad he didnt end up wearing a star, would have broke my heart.

Come on Adam, look at more than just the stats, look at the teams faced.

or they would put him at DE, even better ;)

Yeah, lol, course he would get blown off the ball on every run play. :)

Ware and Merriman are equal in different ways. I just wish we would give him more help in the way of being more aggressive for Ware.

Yeah that definitely sucks, but I'm VERY glad he's not wearing the blue and silver.

Ware is no slouch, but he's not half the player Merriman will be when its all said and done.

I guarantee you that if we'd drafted Merriman, Gregg Williams would have schemed to his strengths.

Guess my biggest worry right now is I don't trust Zimmer.

I guarantee you, if Merriman was drafted by the Cowboys, he'd be putting up huge numbers for you guys too.

I'm not so sure, he definitely wouldn't be rushing he passer as much.

I like DeMarcus Ware a lot and don't regret the Cowboys picking him. He's a class act with loads of upside and every indication of realizing his potential.

But here's an advantage with Merriman:

He's got the size to play Ellis's LB spot. -- So if you are the Cowboys with Merriman, you can draft Manny Lawson (instead of Carpenter) and move Merriman to Ellis's side.

Maybe this guy will give Ware a reason to keep getting better.....I like Ware, but you cannot deny the talent of Merriman

Merriman is better.
He faced better competition in school and it shows.
Merriman 3,Ware 0.
Another draft mistake.

the Oakland OLine sucks ***. Wish we played them this year

We get to play Houston. I'm not sure who's line is worse. Eagles sacked the Texans 5 times.

Ware faced better competition in the NFL. (Oakland vs Jacksonville) Merriman wouldn't have had 3 sacks against the Jags. Oakland is a high school team.

Ware wasn't a mistake. He will be a great player.

While I'm happy with Ware, I just wish we would turn Ware loose more often and let him rush the QB. The defensive scheme does have something to do with it, granted. However, I would like to see Ware become more of a pass rusher though.
