Good point.

I posted yesterday that I thought Dallas has the nicest defensive players in the league. Talented, but nice.

I lost count how many times I saw a Dallas defender help up a Jaguar offensive player on Sunday.

Dallas is trying for the good sportsmanship trophy.

Yep, I vividly remember after Roy laying the wood to the RB, he helped them up, and patted them on the head and backside.

Oh yeah, that makes you want to hide the women and put the children to bed, bet the RB had snot bubbles after that.......lol.

I just think it would be a help if we had an aggressive defensive coordinator, cause sometimes a team is a reflection of their leader, and in this case with Zimmer's passive D, it makes our team turn into a box of kittens.

There's no way to spin this or downplay it.

Shawn Merriman is at a different level than Ware right now. Good grief, he looked good last night.

Ware will be a very good player, but my gosh, that was impressive. Merriman's passion and enthusiasm is contagious and that was a nimble QB he was chasing down, too.

I'm convinced Brooks wanted out of the game.

:hammer: Merriman is a beast. Ware will be a good player but he wont be the pass rusher that Merriamn is. Look at Merriman's size. He's a freak of nature. He is Ellis size with Ware's athleticism. No fat, all muscle. I am not sure that even Zimmer would have been able to hold him back.

Ware is no where near the pass rusher that Merriman is. He doesnt have the moves that Merriman has either.

Why does everyone who wants to comment on Merriman make a new thread?

:bang2: :banghead:

cause their "nutt hugging" is more important than anyone elses "nutt-hugging" so they must not allow their "nutt-hugging" to get lost in all the flames and fanfare of a longer thread.

it's the attention ***** syndrome in full bloom.

our problem isnt nice players, its stupid coaches...has been for a L O N G time

Wade Phillips is a great defensive coordinator...he understands how to create pressure on offenses and gets his defense to make plays on the ball...everywhere he goes it seems his teams get alot of sacks and turnovers...they got NINE sacks last night...NINE...6 different players totaled those 9 sacks, and 3 had more than 1 each...and this was despite losing one of their best pass rushers in Foley

all you people clamoring for Merriman over Ware or this guy over that guy...you can take any freaking 11 players you want and put them in our defense, and you WONT SEE A DIFFERNCE FROM THE RESULTS WE ARE GETTING NOW...IT IS THE SCHEME AND THE GUYS CALLING THE PLAYS

this is, and always has been a passive scheme...as long as the same guys are running it, it always will be...there is plenty of talent on this defense to see better results than what we saw Sunday in Jacksonville, but this coaching staff isnt capable of maximizing it

I'm so glad that one game against possibly the worst team in the league is able to give voice to all sorts of claims that "Ware will never be the player Merriman is", "Merriman's on another level, and always will be".

Classic stuff.

yet you compare merrimans output against a team YOU SAY has no idea what they're doing with wares when he consistantly does face better teams.

glad you got banned, but i wish i got a jab or two in first. : (

Merriman wouldnt have had ten sacks last yr in this defense, and as long as Zimmer is running the show we'll never see our team rush the passer the way San Diego did last night

Wade Phillips is a Lexus...Zimmer is a 1975 Ford Pinto

It doesn't matter what scheme you use, there are football basics. And at the end of the day the basic football 101 for a pass rusher is the ability to beat the blocker in front of you and get to the quarterback. Its the same in San Diego as it is in Dallas. Merriman lines up in a stance, an offense lineman is assigned to block him and Merriman either beats him or he doesn't. Its the same for all 32 teams in the NFL.

Its the same in San Diego as it is in Dallas. Merriman lines up in a stance, an offense lineman is assigned to block him and Merriman either beats him or he doesn't. There are tons of Merriman highlight videos up on YouTube. Take notice of the times when San Diego is rushing more than 4 ... its not very many.

And the same thing can be said for Ware. It's just pathetic that a good night by a player in another conference, playing against possibly the worst team in the league (it's not like Merriman was the only player eating that line) gives license to a bunch of knee-jerk star-humping fans to declare Merriman the best evah - and Ware some passive doormat just "gee-shucks-ing" his way to being half a player.

He was every bit as good as Merriman last year. Merriman's off to a fast start. Hopefully it motivates Ware. That way all these people will stop whining because they think "Our guy's not the best."

If the roles were reversed last weekend, I guarantee some of these same fans would be touting our selecting Ware as merriman got shut out.

Merriman won DROY last year. He started in the Pro Bowl. I saw him dominate Willie Roaf and the Colts offensive line last year.

Its not just about what he did against the Raiders.

ok right...coaching and scheming dont matter at all do they?

sorry I-R but you are wrong...some coaches do a FAR better job than others of creating pressure on the QB, some coaches understand blitz schemes and creating angles and lanes to the QB and some dont...unfortunately for us we have one of the worst

if Wade Phillips were coaching our players, the results would be vastly different...if Greg Williams were coaching our players the results would be vastly different...if Dick LeBaeu or Bill Belechick were coaching this defense the results would be alot different

on the other hand I will flat out guarantee you that if Mike Zimmer were coaching the Chargers defense last night they wouldnt have had anywhere near 9 sacks or the dozen plus other hits they seemed to have on the QB

Merriman vs KC

No sacks, INT's, FF's.

5 tackles.

By that definition Ware dominated 4 games last year and vs Jax.

Luis Castillo looks pretty good too.

Exactly. Last nights stats - Merriman/Castillo 10 tackles and 4 1/2 sacks vs Ware/Spears 6 tackles and 0 sacks. I said last year that the only lineman we got that I wanted was Ratliff who had our only sack Sunday. Yes, I know Oakland has O-line problems, but I believe qb's had inside pass rushs worst than anything because they can't step up in the pocket. Well, Glover was our only inside pass rusher and we let him go. Had we kept him and added Merriman/Castillo along with Ratliff, Leftwich never would have time to set up and throw. Rashean Mathis is weaker than TO, but he can cover him.

I'll take both of them but we use Ware in coverage alot and they don't. Opportunty is the name of the game both of them are studs

Merriman played outside linebacker for 2 years at Maryland before being moved to RDE because of depth problems.

in the words of tom jackson....are you ********?!?!?! he had the same amount of sacks and ware last year, and id go out on a limb and say that the jags have a MUCH better line than the raiders do

Is Dick Vermeil ******** too, he said that Merriman is the best lineman he's seen since he came back to football.

apparently you too dont see the forest for the trees...it doesnt matetr what player are on this defense, the results will always be the same...its yr 7 of the same guy running it and every yr is the same...new assistants have been brought in..a new head coach that people thought was a defensive guru...almost all new players and a different scheme...results are the same...no pass rush, no turnovers...one constant there, you figure it out

2 sacks and a TFL against the Chiefs in this highlight video alone.

That was the first game against the Chiefs. Roaf's first or second game back from injury, I believe. Merriman is great, slightly better than Ware right now. Pretending like it was a horrible decision to take Ware, and moaning like a cat in heat after Merriman roughs up the freaking Raiders, is just stupid.

They're both great.

And only Merriman's 2nd start in the league after returning from an injury himself. And, once again, its not just against the Raiders that have led people to come to this decision, no matter how many times you insist on repeating it.

Nobody said Ware was a bust or terrible.
