That was quite an endorsement.

The people who are spinning this and downplaying Merriman's ability and effectiveness are blind or stupid.

apparently you too dont see the forest for the trees...it doesnt matetr what player are on this defense, the results will always be the same...its yr 7 of the same guy running it and every yr is the same...new assistants have been brought in..a new head coach that people thought was a defensive guru...almost all new players and a different scheme...results are the same...no pass rush, no turnovers...one constant there, you figure it out

David

Well, I'm not Zimmer guy, but Zimmer doesn't pick the players and he didn't choose to re-invent the wheel by turning a team with 4-3 talent into a 3-4 talent. Parcells is old enough to understand that you fix the problem as exists, not re-invent the wheel and that includes replace the D. cordinator if he's not getting the job done. The bottom line to me is that virtually every move Parcells has made since 2004 began was bad, with the exception of drafting Julius Jones. Our best OL were already here when he got here. He changed what was already a pretty good defense and just needed a few more parts. He totally screwed up the qb situation and didn't draft a receiver.
After this year, we'll still need to get a qb of the future, a WR of the future to replace TO and Terry and rebuild the whole offensive line now that flozell is nearing the end and despite all of the defensive additions, we don't have an inside pass rusher because he likes the 3-4 better. The Chargers were number 1 against the run last year and have great pass rushers. As soon as their secondary matures, they'll have a truly great defense.

2 sacks and a TFL against the Chiefs in this highlight video alone.

Here's what I saw in that video.

Beat no name horrible Bills a couple times. Same goes for Jets. Dallas Clark whiff on one VS Colts and good bull rush vs OG once. Steelers unblocked. NYG unblocked. Couple more plays vs Bills don't know if it was repeat. Beat Roaf who was an invalid on his way to retirment home twice.

So net-net I'll give him legit sack vs Tra Thomas and one vs Colts. Other than that he was unblocked and beating up on the Bills/Roaf (who is retired now).

And only Merriman's 2nd start in the league after returning from an injury himself. And, once again, its not just against the Raiders that have led people to come to this decision, no matter how many times you insist on repeating it.

Nobody said Ware was a bust or terrible.

Roaf looked like Flo on Sunday hence he's in an old folk's home now along with Welbourn.

Merriman was not injured. The raiders game is not the only evidence, and I NEVER said it was, no matter how many times you isnist on repeating that. However, whenever Merriman has a big week, and Ware does not, it gives all the overreactor's license to whine like crazy. That is what I said.

I agree that beating Willie Roaf repeatedly is nowhere near as impressive as racking up 3 sacks on Travelle Wharton, but try to give the guy some credit.

I'm not trying to sell Wharton as being good.

I'm just saying Old/injured Roaf, bust Gallery, Clark whiff, terrorizing the Bills and a bunch of unblocked stuff doesn't impress me all that much.

I've said it before.

For a guy who was in his 3rd year in scheme/position last year Merriman should have blown Ware off the field.

It was nowhere close to that.

And from what I've seen Ware gets far more double team attention.

Maybe that's because teams actually were more concerned with a Foley vs Singleton last year.

You think that may be what I meant when I referred to the old folk's home?

That wasn't there when I saw it first. That was an addition.

Brooks should be a backup QB in this league.

This in no way takes away from what Merriman did.

But man alive I just can't see how brooks is starting in Oakland.

Are you kidding, Brooks is better than Phillip Rivers,Rex Grossman,David Carr, J.P. Losman, Jake Plummer,Chris Simms,Drew Bledsoe,Alex Smith,Charie Frye, Michael Vick, but he has no offensive line. I thought he did hang on to the ball a couple of times, but everybody does that sometimes. He's also got a head coach and coordinator that have been out of the business for over ten years and they didn't do him any favors last night. Moss complained because they traded away Doug Jolley, a pretty good tight end and the one have dropped a bunch of passes last night. No way that offensive performance was all on Brooks or even most on him. How many more ints do you think Bledsoe would have thrown if we had that offensive line.

BP forced the 3-4 on Zimmer because he wanted it.

You think BP would force Zimmer to be more aggressive he wanted it?

Actually, Vermiel was saying that about Castillo. Merriman's not a lineman.

Brooks is an awful QB...he'll be out of the league just like your other hero in another yr...

and memo to you, our OL is just as bad, if not worse than Oaklands

He also qualified that by saying that Luis was the best "young" lineman he had seen in a while.

I have kartr on ignore, but he really said that Brooks was better than Rivers? Did he watch the game last night?

I know, I know, kartr is clueless, but I couldn't help noticing that one...

And as Superpunk said well, it's one thing to say that Merriman is a great talent, but it's another to say that he is some all time great and "is better than Ware at everything and always will be". Good grief, are you kidding me?

Watching that game last night, I'd think Shawn Phillips was far better than Ware, too. After all, he was in the backfield all night.

Plus, he jumped around and screamed when he got a sack, too, which Ware doesn't do. More proof that Ware is just a passive pansy.

And P.S. -- I was going to say that Vermiel was talking about Castillo as well.

Exactly. Shaun Phillips? The next LT?

He's on pace for 24 sacks.

After watching Merriman last season and then last night...I was like WOW!

He was all over the place...He's a Beast.

I love Ware...But the truth has to be told...It's not even close at this point...Merriman is much better.

If you can't see that you're blind. Or a big Homer.:D

And one more thing that I think Vermeil said that stuck with me....Merriman has been watching tapes of LT and Derrick Thomas and wanted to be Like them or better...Ware didn't even know who Charles Haley was. I know people will say big deal but that just didn't sit well with me.

What do you think of the Raiders overall and their OL?
