After watching Merriman last season and then last night...I was like WOW!

He was all over the place...He's a Beast.

I love Ware...But the truth has to be told...It's not even close at this point...Merriman is much better.

If you can't see that you're blind. Or a big Homer.:D

Or you can recognize the difference in competition. Difference in what they're doing. Difference in defensive scheme.

What do you think of the Raiders overall and their OL?

I don't care...Merriman is a beast...I doubt Ware would have done as well even against that line.

I guess the 6 sacks the rest of the team got were meaningless. They were lucky to get Merriman's sloppy seconds, eh?

The Raiders allowed 9 sacks! This is a HORRIBLE team.

Is it all right if I write you off as shallow? Since obviously you didn't read the part where I clearly said Merriman is better than Ware right now. And you obviously can't acknowledge the difference in competition, or defensive scheme.

Yeah. The fact, that the Raiders are so bad, that they allowed 9 sacks in a single game, is an excuse. Brilliant deduction.

I didn't read the whole thread...but if you think that Merriman is better right now than Ware...then whats the beef...I said the same thing.

Did we not play the Raiders last year?

They were awful last year too...and I didn't see Ware get 3 sacks and be all over the field then.

The beef is, that he is not MUCH better. It is "even close". The beef is, that people are slobbering so much over a 3 sack game, that they can't take a step back and say, who were they playing? Was Merriman wrecking by himself? Or was the rest of the team dominating as well.

Merriman is better at what he does - but the difference is slight. Not this impassable gap that Ware will never be able to cross, that it is being made out to be.

Last year the Raiders didn't have a new guy at LT (Gallerbust) and a rookie at RG (McQ) and injured Jake Grove at OC.

OMGZ, really? Did you see the Chargers sack numbers, in comparison to ours, last year? Did you see that game being Ware's third in the league?

Give me a break.

I still think the biggest difference between the two is Wade Phillips...I cant understand how anyone could even remotely try and den that it doesnt make a HUGE difference...everywhere Phillips goes aggressive defense and results follow...we have SEVEN years now of film showing that we arnt aggressive and that we dont pressure QB's and that we dont force alot of turnovers

if Merriman played here everyone would be talking about what a bust he was

I am hesitant to agree, because I really do like Zimmer, but your analysis was spot on, looking at a microcosm of the two teams last weekend. If Parcells is holding Zimmer back, and he said he was, I hate him.

It may be Parcells pulling the puppet strings, but Zimmer wasnt very aggressive even before Parcells got here, thats why I still blame him alot...

but I have heard comments from Parcells that make me think he has a big hand in why we're so vanilla...maybe thats why Parcells kept Zimmer, becaus ehe knew he wouldnt get any flack from him over what he wanted to do defensively...a more proven DC like Greg Williams or Wade Phillips might have given parcells the bird by now

I dont care who it is, but its inexcusable with this kind of talent...they need to turn these guys loose and let their athletic talent take over and make plays

No offense, did you see Ware get Pancaked by Robert Gallery in two consecutive plays either? Yeah, thats what happened in first quarter with Merriman. I didn't see his sacks etc., but was laughing on how as soon as the Announcers said how much of great player Merriman was, he gets pancaked twice in consecutive plays.

Lot of success of Merriman is due to the way they use him. Unfortunately, seems like BP rather play vanilla Defense and just wants one on one domination. If thats the case, Merriman probably gets no sacks in the same game, based on what I saw from him

The guy does seem to be a beast. I do agree that he seems to have a green light to go full throttle every play where Ware does not it seems. I love the way Merriman plays wide open all the time.

No I didn't see him get pancaked... I wasn't watching at that time...But when I did watch him he just had something in my eyes that Ware doesn't at this time.

Will Ware get whatever it is...I hope and think so.

I wish Ware would stop the bullrush stuff and get some more moves. Like a Freeney spin move would be nice.

Hey Did you watch that Ohio St game?:D

carpenter was a bad pick, watkins is playing as a rookie right? bad draft :(

One game into their rookie years and you are declaring this a bad draft?

Holy smoke - that's about as unfair and unrealistic as it gets.

By the way - what does Watkins starting have to do with Carpenter?

To understand the NFL is to understand that draft classes cannot be adequately judged until a few years later.

That something in your eyes was the fact that Merriman was playing against the worst team in the league.
