Should Marion Barber be our feature back? *MERGE*

I like both backs.

This preseason, to me at least, MB3 has run with more "pop" and quickness than last year. He looks even better than he did last year.

Julius Jones has more big plays (longer runs) in him than MB3.

I am disappointed to see MB3 taking over the 3rd down back responsibilities, only because Julius Jones has shown a knack for breaking long runs on delayed draws in passing situations. Jones is a threat in space; he's a threat as a checkdown receiver. So I'd like to see Jones on field during passing situations.

But MB3 is the better blocker, which is probably a big reason Parcells has MB3 as the 3rd down back.

I rewatched the game again last night (for some stupid reason) and since BP is leaning towards a ton of sweeps and tosses, JJ is the best man for that job.

He and Thompson, when they hit the corner, they explode down the field, and that's why JJ is the starter. But really, it doesn't matter because they will both play alot.

Either Jones or Barber can be spelled by Tyson Thomas. That's a nasty threesome to keep the opponents defense on their heels.
I guess you don't have to get the names right to post over at FWST ;)

The Prophet has a gut instinct that one Marion Barber should be given the rock instead of the injury prone Julius Jones. Oh don't get me wrong friends, at times ole JJones has looked splendid. But sadly his performance is streaky at best and quickly snuffed by yet another injury.

Marion Barber on the other hand, seems consistent and determined in the limited times he has been used.

Need I remind the forum YET AGAIN that Barber missed most of the early season last year with an injured foot, and many here thought he was trade and practice squad worthy, while some had him being cut?

However, I am very excited about our backs. Jones has looked solid in pre-season. He looks stronger and still has speed. I think he will eliminate all durability questions this season by posting huge numbers and start evey game.

Barber looks like a 4th round steal. I like him even more as a recieving RB and he will do some very good things for us this season. I sure am glad we didn't cut, trade, or send him to the prctice squad last season...

For a while now ive been saying that Barber should be the starter because i just dont trust Jones to stay healthy and cause of that be consistent. Plus our run blocking isnt very good and while it was a small sample size, Barber played solid when he started while Jones for the most part struggled last year except for the Carolina game. Jones has great potential but at some point you need results and Jones has for the most part not delivered.

The guy that could benefit most from a more mobile offense line is Jones. When he's running in traffic he seems to really struggle and IMO it wasn't all about the injury either last year. Jones will also benefit from having TO on the field. If we were playing against 8 man fronts a lot I'd take Barber all day. But I don't think we will be.

When Barber carries the ball or catches a pass I always feel like something good is going to happen.

When Jones carries the ball I always feels like he's going to run into a pile.

so true..........so true.

Sooner or later we are going have to accept that JJ might not be a premier back in this league...Barber has all the tools, and is a weapon out of the backfield. You have to believe the coaching staff paid close attention to that bledsoe swing pass for 30+ yards in the 49ers game....that is what he adds to this offense that JJ don't.

I like both Julius and Barber, but I can't stand that this has turned into the next Hutch/Carter, Romo/Henson.

Julius is not as bad catching out of the backfield as people make it seem. Julius doubled Barbers catches and had the longer reception. Barber had half the carries yet fumbled the same amount.

Barber is not as slow as most want to make him seem. He is very good in pass blocking and catches very well out of the backfield.

I think that both players could start for over half the teams in the league, we just benefit from having both on the same team.

Some of the or I may say a lot of the Marion Barber fans are getting preety rediculous.

This is why some of you will bash Julius and what not and then you say that Dallas should start Barber because you know he is going to be the next great Dallas running back (which I totally disagree) or the better runner.

So how is your observation over a NFL legendary coach? Bill already said that Julius is the starter and Barber to be the back up, and everyone should know that Bill is a hard nose guy who will start the best person. There is a reason why Bill is starting Julius and thats because he thinks Julius is going to do better on the 1st and 2nd downs and Barber with his good catching ability to be the reliever and third down plays. I think that Bill knows more what goes on during games, I mean he studies every game.

Some of you try to start a controversy but there really is not. If anything we should be glad that we have two good backs. But hey what does Parcells knows he just takes several teams to the playoff or the superbowl?

I think that this year Julius will break out. The last two years has been just, in Parcells words, unfortunate bad luck. Judge a player in his third year is another thing Parcells said. This is just my opinion what do you think?

My prediction, 1200+ yards rushing for Jones this year.

I think the primary reason why Jones is considered the "Starter" is because Marion is so much better in short yardage situations, passing situations, and the two minute drill, that over the course of the game, they will recieve an equal share of carries over the course of the game.

It has nothing to do with Julius being a "better" runner or a "big play threat."

My guess is that if the Cowboys decided to select a star back in the first round of the draft, it would be Jones who gets pushed out of the rotation.

Two things:

A) They already merged a bunch of threads for this discussion. There is a reason for this.

B) It is completely alright for you to hit the enter key 2 times between sentences. I quit reading your post after the first sentence.

This is the same thing as the Romo homo's wanting him to start after looking good in ONE PRESEASON GAME.

Little off subject, but he has had 3 GOOD preseason games, and before you ask, I thought Henson easily had more potential than Romo coming into this season.

And no I don't want MB or Romo starting. But I like the depth they provide. IF JJ doesn't prove himself this year and Barber continues to produce, then maybe it's time.

if julius has a good year greaT! IF HE doesn't whether the reason is the line, him, or another injury give him the boot
