Romo had to get hit hard and not get hurt to gain confidence he was healthy and able to get back on track. We are lucky it happened when it did. Now everyone will know he can take the pounding.

I see it as a good thing.

How about now?

A great deal is at stake. Whether or not to retire is a decision for Tony and the Cowboys organization to deal with. Romo will get the best of advice from his physicians as to the implications that continuing to play might entail. I'm just hoping for the best for Tony and for the Cowboys as well.

I understand how disheartening it is to see Tony in this same situation again, but, what's even more disheartening... is the lack of support everyone seems to have here for him now.

I get that everyone does want to see him on the field for us, but, in all actuality, can we not lose sight of what it is that really happened? Whether or not the case is that he is getting older and more fragile (while I do see this), the fact of that matter is, is that I'm pretty sure none of us have ever seen a specific hit like that...

Try having 250lbs of Cliff Avril jamming your back directly into the ground while sliding at full speed, and I'm pretty sure any normal being should have at least something wrong with their back. It's nearly a miracle it's not anything even more than a minor compression fracture.

For Christ's sake, people, he doesn't even need surgery on this injury, and it's completely unrelated to the previous injuries he's had.

While I do understand it's easy to see how this could be the beginning of the end - I don't like to see it that way.

For everyone who doubts Tony out there, I'd like to keep faith in our boy, knowing that he's one of toughest in the game and once he does come back (which he will), he's going to be better than ever. If there was never a fluke hit such as this, and he went through a full season this year and took us into the playoffs, we would all be saying he does most likely have another 3 years in him - And I still believe that to be true. Quit saying Romo's going to retire, because he's not.

As long he lets it heal properly, our O-line protects him as they should, and there aren't any mortifying, ridiculous plays that somehow take him out for the season again... We (He) will be fine.

I say Dak goes 3-3, Romo comes back, goes 7-3, and we win the NFC East to get back into the playoffs again above the Commanders at 9-7.

Have a little faith, people!

Go Cowboys.

While I'd love for Romo to come back from injury and lead the Cowboys to a Super Bowl victory I also feel like it's time for him to hang them up. As one of our highest paid players, this'll obviously have an impact on our call situation.

So my questions are what does the rest of Romo's contract look like and how would him retiring affect the cap? Would there be a difference if he retired mid-season vs at the end of the year?

All you have to do is go to overthecap.com and you can find all the info you want.

Romo won't retire mid-season. He wants to play. The Cowboys can easily part with Romo in 2017, either early or a 'June 1st" cut or even a trade (assuming a team would want him).

Basically, if Dak plays well, I doubt Romo will be a Cowboy next year.

I will always believe in Romo and think he could have taken the team all of the way. There comes a point in time when a player has to step back and look at life with his family. He has two young sons and should consider how best to be there for them. For the sake of his long term health, I think I'd prefer him to retire now so that he can have some quality of life with them. It hurts to say that because I really enjoy watching him as the Cowboys QB, but as a fan of his I'd like to think that some things are more important than him winning a SB at this point. I don't want any player ruining himself for his team or for the fans. It's a game, not life or death. If he does come back and is the QB, he'll have my full support and faith, but I think that's the wrong choice for him in the long run.

Barry Sanders didn't retire. Or quit. He left football to protect what was left of his body.

*** is wrong with that? Spare me.

Barry left football because the lions did not let him go to a team where he could go win a ring.
