Should The Cowboys Try To Replace Terrance Williams?

Draft is loaded at WR as usual and they need to replace Harris. Kenny Bell or Lockett from KSU perhaps?

so long as Dez is playing year to year, drafting a receiver in round one is playing with fire.

he could easily take that as an attack against good faith contract negotiations

Yeah I wouldn't play with that fire.

Draft a guy in the 2nd or 3rd. Almost anything is better than T I can't catch with my hands Will

He is a good number 2 still on his rookie deal..........why would we replace him?

Of course he will never see a second contract here in Dallas...............he will either be too expensive to resign or not worth the money and easily replaced with a new player on a rookie deal.

And Dez doesn't come up in the clutch for us? He always comes through when Tony and the team need him the most.

When? There's a difference of coming down with the game winning TD in crunch time and scoring in the second quarter. I remember Dez's big play against the Texans and having a big game against the Eagles. But other than that?

I'm not criticizing Dez, but there are just some guys that step up in a big way late in the 4th. T-Will does and a lot of it has to do with he and Romo being on the same page when improvising.

The issue, at least IMO, is that it's going to come down to Street and Williams. They basically play the same position. One of those guys will be out because they both need reps to move their game to the next level. I think the Cowboys like Street more but I don't know that for sure.

I have seen no evidence that tells me they like Street more.

Let’s play a little guessing game before we get started, shall we? Can you guess how many receptions Terrance Williams, the Dallas Cowboys number two wide receiver, had in 2014? Don’t cheat. Whatever you may have guessed, I’m going to go out on a limb and say it was far too high. The correct answer is 37 receptions. How is it possible for the Cowboys number two receiver to only catch 37 passes while playing opposite of Dez Bryant and playing on a team with one of the best offenses in the NFL? What do you do with when he played 920 snaps and only caught that small number of balls? My answer is that the Cowboys probably can’t and won’t do anything about it.

Here are all of Terrance Williams' targets in his career:

Take a wild guess...what was Alvin Harper's highest reception total when he was with the Boys?

He played n a prolific offense with a dominant running game, and a Pro Bowl QB, TE, & WR. Sounds a lot like our offense now, doesn't it?

Harper never caught more than 36 passes as a Cowboy, by the way.

I've changed my mind guys. We should absolutely replace him. Because body catches.

That's my only major complaint on Williams... he does tend to let the ball get into his body.

But he still makes plays - and some are even pretty spectacular.

He's a playmaker. Sometimes with playmakers, you have to tolerate the bad (body catches) to get the good (the spectacular plays).

Williams has been excellent in his role. Ppl also tend to forget he's only going into his 3rd year in the NFL. He's still got a lot to learn

When Dez was entering his 3rd year, we were having this conversation about him.

Ah recency bias at its finest. TWill had TWO clutch moments all year. The Detroit game and Seattle. Who caught the game winning catch against the Giants this year? The catch, yes it was a catch, against GB? You already acknowledged the OT catch. When we needed a drive against the Eagles late in the game after blowing a 21 point lead, Tony looked to Dez. Hell even against Seattle, Dez had that clutch catch over Sherman on third down on the eventual game winning drive.

What about last year? Needed a game winning TD drive against the Vikings and Dez takes a slant down inside the ten. Against the giants, we needed to drive down the field for the game winning field goal and Tony looked to Dez to make the catch on third down with Rolle all over him.

If we start pulling out chain moves, ****, EVERY player on our offense would be defined as "clutch". The only one I forgot about was the Giants game.

If we want to go back to the 2013 season, Williams had huge plays in the fourth against Lions, Eagles (Remember him waving to the crowd), and Commanders. He also has a way of helping our offense get in sync, Denver game back in 2013, Detroit playoff game, Green Bay playoff game.

And as I said in my post, Dez does a lot of good things; but he needed to step us his game in the playoffs. A little over 80 yards and 0 TDs in two playoff games isn't going to cut it from our #1 WR. Luckily, we had another WR willing to step up to the challenge.

This thread is a little off-kilter. Williams may be listed as the #2 wide receiver on the depth chart, but he is definitely not the second receiving option. Witten and Beasley get a huge amount of looks from Romo.

Williams is just fine as the number two wide receiver. I think some of you guys are digging for fools gold.

I think because of what happened with some of the highly drafted WRs in the past couple of years fans expectations have been higher. normally it takes WRs about 3 years to relaly get into the NFL game and be productive, there are exceptions but typically that's been the time line. with that said, Williams wasn't a first round pick. there was a reason he dropped to 3rd. so I give him benefit of the doubt. plus, his first year he produced at a good rookie level. production dropped in second year, some because of our commitment to running game, some because dez is primary and witten is secondary WR. even Witten's numbers dropped. some because Cole beasly started to play a bigger role. he still showed his big play ability, albeit we all like more consistently. I don't have a problem with his production as much you may.

you also notice that bryan't number of catches dropped but his average increase. so did witten. and William's big play ability was still there. he was a top 5 WR for average yards with recievers with at least 30 catches. why am I being so exact about stats like this one? 30+ catches shows some consistency in catching, being in the game and big play ability as opposed to those with 5 or 10 catches over the season.

do we want Williams to have more catches? yes. but with emergence of beasly, our commitment to the running game. I am not too concerned.

I was wondering about that because that was the first name I thought of when reading this article.

I prefer to look for improvement from Williams rather than replacement.

He went through a dry spell for a while, but I felt he picked it up later in the season and in the playoffs and I'm hopeful that - like Beasley - that trend continues.

That said, if a Green-Beckham slides to say the 3rd round? I wouldn't say no.
