Should the quarterback position be devalued?

League needs to take a stance on how much they make!! Pretty soon the Sanders kid or someone else will make 100 million a year
The owners unanimously taking a stance on any player compensation issue is collusion. When the next CBA is negotiated they can present their idea to the NFLPA and work out a new compensation plan both sides agree to.

Jeebus ........ in your insane idea that its all fake like WWE, then is does not matter where you put your money since they are all actors anyway.

Obviously that's asinine ........ but that is what you think.
They aren't actors. They are athletic and play real football.
It's only when the scoring comes into play that seems to be manipulated- or regulated- by other people.
And I do think some games are allowed to be played without interference. I think the interference only applies when the league- or someone else- feels that there is a specific reason to.
Fixing every game wouldn't be practical, and would be hard to hide.
By letting some games be played and only interfering in certain games it's easier to disguise, and deny.

Not saying I condone this in any way… but it would be an interesting counter-culture experiment if a team decided they were not going to do the $50m/yr qb thing. Draft a 1st round Qb every 4 yrs or so, trade away excess, and otherwise let them walk after rookie deal. Live in perpetual rookie qb pay scale, & build a dominate roster with the extra cap space. I doubt it would work, but it would be interesting to watch.
Lots of teams have crappy QBs that they don't have to pay much, so in that sense, teams are already testing out your theory.

It doesn't work.

Saving money on the QB position is hardly a guarantee that you'll have a dominant team around your cheap QB anyways.

So my dear Daksters, what you are saying is that the QB is indeed the most important position (by far) of any football team and therefore the guy in that position is mostly responsible for the outcome of games? Or at least has a bigger impact on the outcome than anybody else?

I agree. Goes for the post season too by the way.

Let's just do away with the salary cap and make this more interesting.....a level playing field is overrated

With the NFL going overboard to protect quarterbacks, today's quarterbacks don't have to do as much as quarterbacks in the past did.
Troy Aikman suffered concussions from the hits he took while making big plays for the Cowboys, as did many quarterbacks back in the early nineties and before.
Today the quarterbacks are basically playing two hand touch. Any contact with them more than that usually results in a huge penalty and sometimes a fine.
With the quarterback position being so much easier to play, shouldn't their position be devalued , giving teams more money to spread around to guys who actually do the heavy hitting?
QB’s do much more than they did in the past. They are protected more for sure but teams don’t rely on the run anymore, drives are more about chunk plays than sustained drives

You continue to show you have zero clue about NFL football. To say QBs are being devalued is hilarious. QBs have to domore these days than they ever did decades ago. It’s a passing league and everything revolves around the QB. There’s a reason QB salaries continue to skyrocket. Many of the QBs today are dual threat QBs who put up passing and rushing yards. They account for a high percentage of their teams offense. QB’s today throw the ball more than they ever did decades ago because RB’s have been devalued. You score with the passing game. Just because the rules protect QBs more these days than they did years ago doesn’t mean they’re not doing as much. You need to start getting with the program.
he didnt say they are devalued, he asked if they should be

they dont have to do as much??? ok, just go and look at the last 25 SB winners and then do the numbers. How many of those QBs are HOFor will be HOF qbs? You will have your answer.

Sp go ahead and devalue the position and see if you can keep up with Mahomes for the next decade.

I think you have to break it down to the era. Football as a whole has to be judged that way.

Think about it like this. Take the best football teams from the 60s, and 70s. How many of them would even make the playoffs in today's NFL? Would those statue quarterbacks of the old days look like Hall of Famers vs today's defenses?

Could those receivers back then get open vs today's secondaries? They didn't have but a hand full of 300 pounders in the 80s.... their were linemen in the trenches on both sides that weighed between 250 to 265, 270. You could send today's worst NFL teams back into the 60s and 70s and they would dominate.

Micah Parsons is faster than most of the players in the league from the 60s and 70s.

He’s completely lost if he’s asking if they should be. I guess he hasn’t noticed QB‘s salaries continue to skyrocket. How could anyone who has the slightest clue about NFL football, ask if QBs should be devalued? Only the OP would ask that question. Lol We’re into page three and so far no one has liked his post.

Is this why aside the most talented QBs in the league are usually winning it all? And even in the outlier years, the QBs who won it all really elevated their play during the playoffs to allow their teams to win it all. Maybe you are thinking of the RB position? Lol. Because the QB position is about as valued as it has ever been. If your QB isn't good, you have zero shot to win. And even if you have a good QB, it is still going to be very difficult to win.

There is talk of changing salary cap to account for QB salaries, so teams CAN keep building the team around him
This will never ever happen. The NFL is all about trying to provoke parity. The NFL is anything but parity even though they claim it is but they do everything they can to try and make it happen. They are never going to allow teams with superstar QBs like KC to stockpile even more talent. All that will keep happening is the cap rising with all the salaries that keep rising.
