Shouldn't break the bank for Miller

It would not be my preference but, if Jerry is thinking short term/win now, a premier back like Elliott would give them more fire power on offense, especially if they are unable to fit all the pieces on defense. IMO, there is no one defensive player in this draft (except maybe Spence) who would be considered an impact player/difference maker.

Of course my first and only preference is still a franchise QB.

I think it's QB if the right guy is there. Outside of that, I think it's FS/CB (depending on how you view Ramsey).

also after cutting Carr before June first and restructuring Crawford, Bryant and Tyron, we will have 36 million dollars on the cap!!! we could give Miller 6 million a year, Trumaine Johnson as our corner and possibly get Olivier Vernon. AND still have enough cap to do what we want..

It is a buyer's market for RBs.

We could have Forte, LMiller, Foster, DMartin, DMurray all on the market.

I would go at least 4/16m for Miller, even 5/25m with 10m guaranteed.

Why would they cut Carr when they need CBs and his DS is almost 7.5M this year. Granted they save a lot but they still have to replace him. With whom? I know many here think Carr is hopeless but he's merely avg unless used as to his strengths. We don't have anyone who can do what he does best. He's just not worth anywhere near what we paid for him. That is another argument though.

It's not out of the question though. They'd have to take the hit and find someone who plays better esp big guys that require physical play and players who can be bullied. You'll say no problem but no one has come along so far. I wouldn't count this year as the year either. Next year unless we find young players we just can't cut this year.

I'm betting we have zero interest in Miller. I don't think he's as talented as McFadden, nor would he start.
My bet is we go with what we have and add a young, complimentary back in the draft.

Talent aside do you really see having every RB under a second contract?
Not many teams have not one RB under his rookie deal
I like miller but I also like the idea of just drafting a young guy in say the 3rd rnd who is young and hungry and maybe a guy who can contribute something on special teams

We save 7.2 million on the cap if we cut him before June and after we save 9.1... Trumaine Johnson was the 2nd rated corner behind Norman last year. Carr had zero turnovers and his tackling was crap last year.

You also have 7.5M in dead cap if you cut him. He also plays pressure coverage pretty well as long as the guy is not too speedy. He gets into Jackson's head but you do have to cover Jackson over the top of Carr. Carr is a dependable tackler. He's just slow and he too takes bad angles. They all do. Carr is an average CB who plays press pretty well if the matchup is not too unfavorable. He needs to be replaced when it is advantageous for the club to do so. It was a bad contract.

I just don't see it this year.

OScan, Jones, Carr and Claiborne are pretty good, good, avg and undependable in that order. If you can replace the latter two with cheaper options who play as well or better then I'm all for it. They should draft a S and CB high and look for others to compete as well. DB is problematic.

They need to look for the right players.

Exactly. Miller is going to see much better offers then 3.5 IMO. The days of signing in Dallas for less money because you want to play in Dallas are long gone, assuming they ever existed at all. I HOPE that the market for Miller will be in the 6 million range. The deal to resign Doug Martin, currently being rumored, is 5 years/40 Mil. Basically a DeMarco deal. I don't know that Martin will get that much but I'm guessing he will sign for more then 3.5. I'm also guessing that Miller's deal will be in the same area.

I believe running backs would be willing to consider SLIGHTLY less to play here because of our offensive line.

But that is situation specific.

Just like Cobb took less to stay in Green Bay when he signed a below market value deal to keep having Rodgers throw him the ball.

ok 7.5m in dead cap? you save 7.2 million against the cap and that 7.5 is the only dead money we would see this year!. If you cut him after June that gets split up in 2 years.. we than would save a little over 9 million this year but would have a cap hit of 3.6 million next year for dead money.Carr is solid at best. our secondary had like 4 ints this year. the guy I have been talking about Trumaine Johnson allowed a 55.0 passer rating when targeted 2nd to only Josh Norman, and he had 7 picks last year, we can take that saved money from cutting Carr and infest it in a corner who is entering his prime. By doing that we would have more options in the draft...

Miller's want of too much money makes him a non candidate for RB in Dallas.

You may be right. A guy like DMC probably did but I don't think Miller will. He is at a point in his career where he has to make the most of his next contract. I don't see it with him but I could easily be wrong.

I agree with you, and I would add that I also think that playing for 'his Cowboys' is another factor in our favor. People can give that whatever weight they so choose, but I think that both this offense and the fact that it's the Cowboys work in our favor.

Well Dallas would have to be in the ballpark.

But what I don't think people realize is that a lot of free agents don't take the deal with the absolute largest dollar. For instance Murray turned down two larger deals.

He turned down our smaller deal because we weren't in the ballpark.

Apparently the Cowboys are just going to go out and sign everyone to one-year deal...

This place is out of its damn mind right now.

It is absolutely not in Lamar Miller's best interest to sign a one year deal, especially for that cheap. It is more important for running backs than almost any other position, that they make their second contract count. He is going to get a multi year deal costing at least 5.5-6M/year.

It's like posters on this board think they're the only ones who watch football.

I'm on the record to being Ok with 4/20 with half that guaranteed.

I could be talked into 5 for 25. With the understanding that most deals in the NFL are really 3 year affairs which would take Miller right to 27/28 which is the age most rbs historically have their first large decline in performance.
