People can hate on Martin all they want but he did the right thing.

Martin acted like a professional

In what way is hiding in an emotional hole of your own making (the report suggests that Martin himself attributed his depression to his dissatisfaction with his own reaction/lack of response to the crass behavior), not following proper channels to either get help or deal with the issue, and running away the right thing, or in any way professional?

It doesn't excuse the asshattery of the other players, but Martin responded more like my toddler son than a grown man with resources and experience at his disposal.

I hope this organization pursues Aaron Hernandez when he is acquitted. We need tough players. Dude is straight up a killer. We've had kiddie diddlers and exposers on this team, who cares? Na mean?

Hernandez would be straight up street cred for this team.

I am pretty sure, one of the coaches was involved. If Martin had it in his head, the coach/organization knew/participated in this, where would you want him to turn organization wise? In the football world, and this "old school" way of thinking, it is not ok to go to a psychologist, maybe he did reach out to a psychiatrist or a psychologist.. Maybe he is Bipolar, and did not know it, before this. A bipolar player, with a bunch of people ganging up on him, might of triggered his depression. But my question to you is, if a coach was in on it, where did you want him to turn? To an organization that hired that individual? Or the organization, that drafted/signed players like Pouncey/Ingognito?

Ok, so one coach in an organization of how many? He had been in a supportive environment at Stanford (according to his own statements), so he knew not everybody in the football world had it in for him. I'm not going to speculate on his mental health beyond his own statements in the report—hence my reference to his stated cause of depression. Obviously if he needed professional help and meds, he had every right to pursue that avenue, but still needed to be open and honest with his employer about the problems in the workplace.

All this to say, of course, there's NO WAY the Cowboys should sign the guy.

Why in the world would we want to sign an OT with stability/psychiatric issues who also isn't a very good player? Are we looking for more press?

Please....I think we can do better.

Well, there is a story on NFL.com saying martin discussed it with the head coach. And I am pretty sure this is also the organization who fired its gm, who by the way asked dez Bryant an inappropriate question about his mother.

Yes if this was an office enviroment but it is not, it is the NFL testosterone filled lockers childish pranks and bullying and weak do not survive. Right or wrong that is the way it is. Trying to compare the NFL to how things run in corporate america is a stretch. Call me old fashion but there was bullying when I grew up but many of us were taught how to handle a bully and it worked then it will work today

The issue is it wasn't just Icognito. It was a team of bullies. You just can't win in that situation. It's easy to say just fight back or whatever. I remember one instance in middle school, this known "bully" was giving it to me pretty bad in the middle of class. Others sniping in from time to time. The teacher did very, very little to stop the situation. Sure I could have got up and punched the guy in the face. What do you think would have happened?

Yeah - and all the science behind dealing with bullies suggest that macho approach doesn't really work.

But I know from various other discussions that your opinions pretty much ignore science.

Its amazing to me how people think its the 80's still and you just simply "fight back" and it will stop. People are crazy in 2014. Incognito's rap sheet doesn't indicate that "standing up to him" will end the situation. Its more likely that Incognito, the meat head that he is, will try to get even, or continue on worse than before.
Some kids in Florida recently stood up to a guy who was bullying their rights. Guess what? They were shot at and one was killed.

Pass, I have a problem with a 300 plus man who gets bullied. My goodness if your not man enough to stand up for yourself then I really have no use for that guy.

I think he did stand up for himself.

he left the team.

What else was he going to do..?

Meet at Midnight with switchblades and seconds?

Of course. That proves your tough. You're such a wimp if you don't resort to violence.

Martin showed his own messages to his mother that said he has been this way since grade school. Not everyone that is 300lbs is cut out to be a NFL player. He obviously has some serious self-esteem issues and it's pretty strange that it all finally came out after he lost his starting job. I read all of the texts between Martin and Incognito and they were close friends. They went out all the time, partied together and talked all the time. Incognito is a typical football meathead, but he was truly surprised his friend turned on him like that.

You forgot the part where Martin thought if he befriended the "bullies" that he thought it would stop. That strategy obviously didn't work. Some friend Incognito is. Have you seen his recent tweets?

I have. They sound like a friend that was betrayed and painted as the boogey-man and made the scapegoat for the whole situation, which was obviously a problem for Martin long before he met Incognito. If Martin couldn't handle the ribbing from teammates, how is he to be counted on to stand up to opponents? Football is as much a mental battle as a physical one.

I wouldn't call that stuff just friends "ribbing" each other.
