Similarities to the 90s team

Its been some sort of mental disease around here the last few years.

Its a team game and if tne offense is awesome and the defense sucks or maybe average...it aint happenin'.

95% plus 55% still gives you a 75 average...great kicking game boosts you some from there, but you get the picture.

Now you see why even a 100% on offense ( probably only 90%) still wouldn't compensate for a an bsolute last ranked defense (say 10-20%) back in 2012 or so.
Common sense says that equals 4-12 or 5-11...and WAS that during a coupke of early otr late years in the 90's........but instead, it was miraculously 8-8 in those dreadful D yers in 2011-2013.
Yet somehow, the offense , impossibly, got the blame.

Ok ...I vented:laugh:

Here's hoping this defense continues its ascent.

Future IS bright:flagwave:

we really have no idea what our defense will do.
but they face one of the best offenses in practice.
we have more able bodies than we have had in a while.
and i will take youth for ability.
so i have ABSOLUTELY no worries that our defense will take a big step forward!

Hmmmm....honestly I don't see it other then in a few spots.

I think our O-Line is comparable for sure. Witten is definitely Jay. And Elliott appears to be the real deal at RB so he could be this groups Emmitt Smith but I'm going to need to see a few more years of seriously high level play before I make that comparison.

At QB...sorry I love Dak and what he brings but he's no where near Troy Aikman levels at this point. Will he ever be? Time will tell I suppose but I'm not even close to ready to put him even near that level.

Dez...please. I love the guy. Great player. Lots of passion. But he's no Michael Irvin. He's not even close at this point, from the all around stand point. He's athletically and physically more gifted but I don't know that I believe that he works as hard at it, or loves it as much, as Michael. And I truly don't believe that Dez hates to lose anywhere close to as much as Michael hated to lose.

On defense...not even close. This defense is no where near as good as the 90's Cowboys at any level. Haley alone was worth way more then the entire roster of D-linemen this years team has.

Linebackers....I'm sorry but only Sean Lee is even good enough to be mentioned with the guys who helped win Superbowls in the 90's.

I don't think the secondary is even close. There is no safety as good as Woodson, or hell even Washington for those team. There is no corner as good as Kevin Smith (Pre-injury) and absolutely no one who should even be mentioned in the same book as Deion.

U brought the truth

I agree completely. First of all the triplets are there and they are separated in age much like the 90s triplets were. The dominant offensive line is there. Witten is actually better than Novacek but Jay was a great one and he and Troy had amazing repoire. T-Will reminds me of Harper a bit and Cole is a better version of Kevin Williams.

The defense has a lot to prove to be compared to the great 90s defenses but the secondary is loaded with youth and talent much like the 90s. If the D line can live up to expectations they could be a force like the 90s lines of Lett, Tolbert, Haley and Maryland. Irving and Collins will need to become stars for that to happen. At LB it all depends on Jaylon becoming a force. If he does, he and Lee would make a scary combo much like the Norton, Robert Jones combo.

I see all kinds of parallels. But that doesn't guarantee the same success of course.

Offensively you can't compare Dak to Aikman. Zeke to Smith either. There is no Irvin on this team altho Dez isn't far off. This OL is probably better though. TEs are different. Witten isn't Novacek but he isn't Witten either.

The Ds aren't comparable.
:omg:

I don't know if any of the current DL are as good as Jimmie Jones and he was 7 or 8 on the depth chart.

I think the current guys have high potential, but need more time.

It all boils down to this...forged in fire. We'll see shortly, for at least real projections. The secondary is the biggest question with the current team...

The offense is a bit similar, although it lacks the same polish.

The defense is a work in progress but certainly not there yet.

Maybe next year would be a better time for that comparison.
