I wouldnt give a 3rd for Duckett at all, I may give a 4th if he had agreed to a new contract ahead of time. But as it sits right now they traded a 3rd and possibly a 4th to rent duckett for one year.

I wonder if Portis is worse than they are saying?
I don't like either option they gave up.

A 3rd & a 4th for a part time RB is nuts. Your question about Portis is valid. Why pay 2 high picks for a backup? Makes no sense.

Then the other scenario is a 3rd round pick, which I still think is high for Duckett, and a swap of 1st rounders if they have a worse record than Denver. If Denver wins the AFCW (probable) and the Skins struggle in the NFCE (which could easily happen) then this deal really helps Denver.

I agree the trade was nuts, even without Portis' injury

My thoughts ...

So, do the Skins even have a draft next year? Didn't they trade away a 2nd to move up for Rocky McIntosh? Sheesh, and people accuse Parcells of trying to win now at all costs.

I don't care how the Commanders or their fans try to play it off, Portis' injury is serious. He had chronic shoulder problems at the end of last year, and he doesn't make it through 5 plays in the preseason without injuring it again. The Commanders don't make this trade unless they're really worried.

If the Commanders want to line up TJ Duckett and try to smash it out on us, let them go at it. We have the biggest, strongest and perhaps deepest front 7 in the NFL waiting for him. We'll gladly play the "who can outmuscle who" game if that's the route they want to go. Prepare to see Brunnell throwing a lot of 3rd and longs.

I agree with your post.

My only worry would be having to play our second-team NT. Right now, I'd forget trading for a WR and concentrate on trying to bolster the depth at NT.

I love it when you talk dirty.....

Wonder if this shoulder thing was around IN Denver. It is obviously a major problem.

I bet Shorty made this trade just to give the fellas on ES the ammo to come over here and say their backups at RB are now "officially" better than ours.

Seems just like yesterday that some here were arguing that Barber was better than Betts....but Barber better than Betts AND Duckett?

I don't know.

if the Commanders’ finish with a worse record than the Broncos this season and thus have a higher pick

Isnt' this all but guaranteed? Denver gets 6 games against San Diego w/ a rookie QB, Oakland with, well, their players and a "rookie" coach, and Kansas City with a broken down O Line and Herm Edwards while Washington has to face Dallas, NY, and Philly. I don't know how Denver could possibly finish with a worse record than Washington.

Not too worried about Duckett... and glad Lelie's not going to Philly, though I thought we could have contained him, they would have had at least something to throw to.

Lelie isn't physical at all and Henry and Newman would have beat him up. He's got great physical gifts but IMO doesn't work hard enough and hasn't taken it to the next level and he relies too much on speed. I see him as a less physical Alvin Harper. But Vick needs any help outside.

I think it is highly probable. I expect Denver to be one of the teams to beat in the AFC again.

Their level of competition is way less than the NFCE.

Good, I'll take your word for it. :) I admit I haven't seen him much the last couple of years.

It does seem like he'd be perfect for the Alex Gibbs chop block system, though, so maybe if he can't make it there, he can't make it.

Joe Gibbs is looking for that John Riggins of the 80's. Duckett will never live up to that. I'm willing to bet that he will not last the entire season.

So let's set the score here.

Philly misses the chance to get Duckett and Lelie.....keeping their RB corps and WR corps weak.

Washington trades away more of their future...plus, may not even be able to resign Duckett...

Gee....Thanks Washington?

He's missed 9 games in 4 years.

27 TD in 3 years.

Bad move my butt.

Dude,
Duckett is not what you think. Most of the TDs were after Dunn got the ball on the one yard line or close to the goal line. Dunn is the man, but duckett, who is not an every down back, is the man. That's bananas...

Wow, this deal is so hilariously bad for the Commanders. Many people have already articulated the reasons why, but I just had to go ahead and pile on because, well, it's the Commanders.

Don't stop there. Go ahead and include his ypc numbers too. What was it last year? 3.1?

I missed what they gave intially, wow. I think Duckett's a good back and I'm not happy he's a Commander, but they gave up to much for him.
