I don't like either option they gave up.BigDFan5 said:I wouldnt give a 3rd for Duckett at all, I may give a 4th if he had agreed to a new contract ahead of time. But as it sits right now they traded a 3rd and possibly a 4th to rent duckett for one year.
I wonder if Portis is worse than they are saying?

sorry.

A 3rd & a 4th for a part time RB is nuts. Your question about Portis is valid. Why pay 2 high picks for a backup? Makes no sense.
Then the other scenario is a 3rd round pick, which I still think is high for Duckett, and a swap of 1st rounders if they have a worse record than Denver. If Denver wins the AFCW (probable) and the Skins struggle in the NFCE (which could easily happen) then this deal really helps Denver.

It's actually more nuts if Portis is okay.BigDFan5 said:I agree the trade was nuts, even without Portis' injury

So, do the Skins even have a draft next year? Didn't they trade away a 2nd to move up for Rocky McIntosh? Sheesh, and people accuse Parcells of trying to win now at all costs.
I don't care how the Commanders or their fans try to play it off, Portis' injury is serious. He had chronic shoulder problems at the end of last year, and he doesn't make it through 5 plays in the preseason without injuring it again. The Commanders don't make this trade unless they're really worried.
If the Commanders want to line up TJ Duckett and try to smash it out on us, let them go at it. We have the biggest, strongest and perhaps deepest front 7 in the NFL waiting for him. We'll gladly play the "who can outmuscle who" game if that's the route they want to go. Prepare to see Brunnell throwing a lot of 3rd and longs.

if the Commanders’ finish with a worse record than the Broncos this season and thus have a higher pick
peplaw06 said:Not too worried about Duckett... and glad Lelie's not going to Philly, though I thought we could have contained him, they would have had at least something to throw to.
I think it is highly probable. I expect Denver to be one of the teams to beat in the AFC again.Pottsville Maroons said:Isnt' this all but guaranteed? Denver gets 6 games against San Diego w/ a rookie QB, Oakland with, well, their players and a "rookie" coach, and Kansas City with a broken down O Line and Herm Edwards while Washington has to face Dallas, NY, and Philly. I don't know how Denver could possibly finish with a worse record than Washington.
Chocolate Lab said:Good, I'll take your word for it. I admit I haven't seen him much the last couple of years.
It does seem like he'd be perfect for the Alex Gibbs chop block system, though, so maybe if he can't make it there, he can't make it.

Wonder if this shoulder thing was around IN Denver. It is obviously a major problem.
