i think you guys have the wrong impression of mike holmgren. just because the guy looks like a big teddy bear doesnt mean he is one. ive seen him on the sidelines chew people out and get one their butts like parcells. he is one firery guy. he has the skins to demand respect and the ability to coach up romo. personally i think he would be the best choice.

I'd prefer Gruden over Holmgren. I'd prefer Cowher over anyone. We need toughness. We also need someone to politely ask Jerry to stay upstairs.

Well, I have to say that I am not in love with Gruden. I would rather have Holmgren but I'd really rather have neither. I agree with many, if we could get Cowher, that would be my first choice. Heck, if we got stuck with Gruden, we'd have 20 QBs on the roster.

I thought this 1992 photo was interesting. Holmgren's first staff included five future head coaches -- Gruden, Reid, Mariucci, Jauron and Rhodes.

They look like some sort of men's choir. :laugh2:

Jerry's choice will be the one he can manipulate the easiest. Where Jerry can take the credit if the team wins, and he can blame the coach if they lose. That's how he operates, so unfortunately probably Holmgren.

I would take cowher first and i bet we can have him if jerry wants to change the coach.the first thing cowher is going to do is dump garrett.

And hire Chan Gailey as his offensive coordinator. :)

Cowher
Gruden
Shanahan
in that order for me.

I don't really want Holmgren here. Like someone said already, it'd be Parcels 2.0, and in a couple of years, he'd be looking to either retire, or go somewhere else cause he'd be sick of dealing with JJ. I think the other 3 would just put him in his place... in his box seats, not on the sideline.

I don't think so. He rode with Rich Gannon for his tenure in Oakland. He'll be fine with Romo.

No, to all three.

Holgren is a bad idea also, you got that right.

No one is going to put Jerry in his place but Jerry or an outright fan revolt, so basically just Jerry.

The obsession of the Cowhers, Grudens, Shanahans, and Holmgrens is extremely misplaced. Hire one of them and you won't see another Super Bowl here for 5 years +. Hiring them is going to solve absolutely nothing.

Put Jerry Jones the owner of the team in his place? :laugh2: Jerry does the hiring and the firing period you got to be kidding to think someone he hires is going to put him in his place? :lmao2:

I agree. I've seen him lose it on the sidelines. He recovers pretty quickly, but he's anything but laid-back.

My concern with Holmgren is he seemed to coast his last year or two at Seattle. He wasn't the same after they got robbed in the Super Bowl. Plus, I don't like the WCO.

I agree with some of the other posters that these veteran coaches can lose their edge later in the careers. They're like anyone else ... you can't keep that pace forever.

Bob Simmons has his opinion that is all it is. I'm not worried about a coaches age.

Very true. But it has merit.

Don't you want to be a team like Pittsburgh who goes out and finds a young coach to keep for the next 10-15 years, instead of constantly hiring an old white dude who's burnt out to coach this team, then be looking for another one in 4 years?

At least we might actually draft one in the first two rounds. Only done that once since Aikman and it was a reach that got QC into the 2nd round.

After hearing Jerry say Garrett is in the family picture a week or so ago, I belive Red J will be the next HC. I also could see Norv becoming the OC because he will never see another HC gig. Jerry will listen to Troy, and will believe Philip Rivers development has come from Norv and make it happen. DC not sure.

Funny to see Wade at DC in San Diego next year and Norv OC here in Big D.

SD is as jacked up as we are.

You're right. It has to be Jerry's choice. He made that choice to a large degree when he opted to hire Parcells. But that's the only time since Jimmy left Jerry willingly gave up considerable control to the HC.

In order for us to improve again, he'll need to do it again.

Few coaches young or old coach for 10 to 15 years any more. Most will burnout, get fired or retire. Age is not a big factor for me when talking head coach.

Do you really think Jerry is going to listen to someone politely asking him to stay up stairs???? If you even have to think about that you do not know Jerry.

I really don't understand the obsession with these four or five coaches. Sexy names, but big question marks on the resume not to mention I believe all of them have self retired at some point (maybe one in there that didnt) so its a Parcells-esk situation for all, they'll come back, but they are all older and you never know how long they will stay around.

This team needs a young guy that can be given the reigns as HC (as much as a coach will ever get that here) and be put in charge with no ending point. Anything else is going to lead to more of the same.
