Skip, Stephen A: Cowboys to finish last in NFCE

I'll put it this way ... You have a better chance winning a lottery you didn't play, then guessing how the Cowboys will be in 2014.

So he said he wouldn't debate you or did he just ignore your request to a debate? There is a significant difference between the scenarios. I wouldn't blame if he ignored you, I'd imagine most of those national guys get challenged fans regularly and ignore them. It isn't surprising but if he responded back and said no that's a little different. IMO

Based on your post number you might not know Hostile, and that's okay but here's a tip -- don't underestimate him, his connections or the challenge. He's not around much anymore but he's part of the history of this place,

Please...trust me.

Skip called Jerry Jones a loser. said Jerry was OK with losing as long as he keeps making money. said it made him sick that the standards have been lowered this much for a franchise like the Cowboys.

and SKip is right, no one should be madder than JJ and with a smile and a pat on the back, JJ accepts it.

I looked at the schedule before reading the article and predict 5-11.

They have a chance against the Rams, Titans, Texans, Jaguars, once with the Commanders.

What exactly is there to underestimate about the challenge?

That he laid it out there?

Nobody said he never challenged him, just that SAS probably didn't care.

lol... I completely forgot about that guy. He has been on my ignore list for a few years now.

LOL!!! Nice freaking try!!!

First I have a television background so I wouldn't be intimidated by the stage, in fact I would relish it. I've been around stars forever in my work including, Jordan, Peyton, Tiger, etc and I've debated them on sports. Second, I'd do my homework and be prepared, third I'd go right after him and he'd be damn surprised.

Eat me alive...what that tells me is they would eat you alive because you already have that mindset of being intimated based on your comment.

God I wish I had the chance, the fact that you even think that tells me everything I need to know.

Oh man... I have seen you debate here. You would certainly get eaten alive. He knows how to take his homerism out of the debate and that would be a massive advantage over you.

Has nothing to do with trying. It has to do with opinion.

More specifics, please. Have you been before the screen? Have you participated in discussion, debate in front of the camera? I talk too. I debate too. I've been in front of the camera. Doesn't mean I could do it in front of the camera and be as seasoned as one who has done it for years.

Ah, the old, "it's not me it's you" reverse strategy. :)

Ah, the old "Your comment reveals more about you than it does about me" strategy. :)

Be that as it may, everyone on the Internet can do better than those who ACTUALLY do what it is they do.

I still think he'd eat you alive. But that's just my thought.

OK.

They went 5-1 in the division last year, and if Romo played the last game, it would have been 6-0.

Live debate with me as a caller. The topic was one he brought up, America's Team. I challenged him and there was interest and then he copped out.

I'd have mopped the floor with him.

Well, I like your confidence. But there's a difference between debating over the phone and debating on television. I've debated over the phone. Different medium altogether.

Unfortunately, we'll likely never get to see you square off against Stephen A. Smith. Maybe you could hold your own. I doubt it, though. Not initially. Again, I've seen seasoned debaters freeze when they get on television. It's just a different medium, and there's just a different dynamic involved when you're on live television. It's like people who criticize anchors for making mistakes, thinking they'd be polished as soon as they sat in the anchor chair for the first time. Then the reality strikes you that it isn't as easy as you think. People always envision they can perform perfectly when there's no pressure around them or on them.

Call me a skeptic, I just don't see a nationally televised sports broadcaster even entertaining the idea of debating some random fan. I guess it could happen but I just don't see it. These guys opinions must get challenged daily by thousands of fans. It's doubtful they take the time to read even a tenth of the questions, challenges and hate mail they receive, let alone agree to nationally televise a debate from one of those fan responses. You had to be vetted by ESPN, the Show, Steven A, it just can't see all that happening.

I agree. I doubt Stephen A. "chickened out." That presumes he knew the fan enough to know that he had an opinion he (Stephen A.) couldn't refute.
Stephen A. gets literally THOUSANDS of "fan" mail asking every question under the sun. I doubt any point anyone here raises is something that would have taken him off guard.

In fact, unless your show is geared toward allowing fans to voice their opinions, why would you want to debate them anyway?

Fair enough and a good post. Yep, I've done it, Ive done it on television and the you/me thing was only to point out that people get intimidated by celebrity, I see it everyday, Im in the business and when that happens they become submissive and nervous and that simply wouldn't happen to me. As far as who out debates who it's pretty much subjective, he would make his points on Romo and hit on the failure of playoff success, I would make mine and say its a team game and back and forth we go.

But - I love the challenge and to be honest and I mean this in a good way, you would motivate the hell out of me. Nothing works better than people saying you can't.

Good debate and I respect your opinion.

C'mon UFC, I know we have our differences on Romo but I respect your passion for your side even though I completely disagree and to be honest, you have a valid point on my debate skills here. You are better than me. I simply don't have the time or initiative to pontificate on long and arduous debates. You're good at it, so is KJJ and Percy is a machine with statistical info backing up his points but I can't do it. In person, however and especially in a forum, I can hold my own.

Last thing - I doubt my homer ism would hinder me no less than Stephen A's homerism of Eli hinders him. He will not accept how poorly he has played the last two seasons and it invalidates some of his opinions.

Hos can defend himself but I know there was substance to his claim, that's what I was trying to convey.

Well, if you debated on television, then I stand corrected. Obviously, I didn't know your background so I probably misspoke and mistook you as the average Internet fan who feels empowered behind a computer. I'd like to think I'm a good debater, but I don't think I could match words with Stephen A., well not on basketball, which I know very little about. Given more time in front of the camera - I haven't been in front of a camera in years - I would think I could hold my own on a conversation of which I was intimately familiar with the topic.

Anyway, as a man who has been in front of the camera yourself, I think you get my point that it seems easier to do than people think. Then, again, some people have the gift and could take the seat for the first time and sound like a pro.

Thanks for the discussion and not taking major offense with my comments. Believe me, that's extremely rare here and on the Internet in general.

I think we all have a tendency to generalize and stereotype. I don't know Hostile in person. You probably do, which supports your position that there's substance to his claim. Hostile is an intelligent poster. And if he has the background to support his claim, more power to him. It would be interesting to see one of our seasoned members here go against Stephen A. or Skippy B. :)
