so we should just write him off then? that's the ONLY thing I'm arguing against, writing him or Henson off before they even get a chance to do anything

And the only thing I'm (we're) saying is that, apparently, Henson/Romo have not done anything to show the coaches they are capable of performing the job.

The only thing that gets me is how some people say "give them a chance" but a backup QB's chance is in practice... and then if the starting QB gets hurt. Also, we didn't have any chances this season to allow our backups to get in there... too many close games. lol.

I can't take that flip-side serious then

You didn't address the question at all. Tell me what other options we have for backup QB's without wasting a crap load of money.

beating out a 13 year veteran is kinda hard to do

I fail to see what that has to do with anything

we're arguing about whether they have a chance or not

And if Romo/Henson had shown such promise.. we wouldn't have had to bring that 13 year veteran in.

No you said.. "why are we still keeping them around? They must see something in them"

I'm simply pointing out a POSSIBLE reason.

you extend Romo for 2 years, and give Henson an 8-year deal, all the while, passing on Aaron Rodgers twice in the 1st round, yet don't have a long-term answer at QB? hmmm, something's fishy

so I think they're worthy of getting a chance, or at least a few people with NFL ties believe so

so again, I don't take the "flipside" seriously

Stick "big ben" in Houston and he'd make Carr look like Joe Namath.

Amazing how some of you guys reach and grasp to prove your points.

All the "superstar" QBs have been eliminated from the playoffs - if they even made it there.

Franchise QB is irrelevant more often than not.

Man I feel sorry for Car. If the GM does not go Oline with his first three picks, Carr should ask to be released.

Henson was a full fledged Jerry Jones deal.. Romo might have been as well.
We all know how good of a talent scout Jerry Jones is and what great personell decisions he's made in the past.

So.. we bring in Bledsoe and already have Henson and Romo on contracts.. why would we even want to draft Rodgers?

so you're telling me that ROmo and Henson aren't worth it, yet when a Qb of Rodger's caliber comes along, falls to you, not 1, but twice, in the 1st round, that you pass on him because you don't want to incur the measly cap penalties of cutting either worthless Henson or worthless Romo?

Try reading again and point out where I said they were worthless.

How long have you been interested in Pro Football? Just wondering?!? Yea the great teams never had great QB’s. Maybe your right, QB really isn’t that important. Elway, Aikman, Staubach, Kelly, Sims, Farve.

Funny you'd question people's interest in pro football given what you posted...

Kelly never won a superbowl. lost several.
Elway took a long while (last 2 years of a long career) to finally win
Roger lost 2 superbowls
Sims sat on the bench for his 2nd behind Jeff Hostetler
Farve is 1-1 in superbowls
Troy was on a great team and did nothing when Dallas faded after '95

Any more nuggest of wisdom you want to share?

At least Bledsoe has been to the Big Dance before. What's Manning been up to since joining the league again? Oh yea that's right, pretending to be a great quarterback until the bright playoff lights shine down upon him.

Perhaps not in terms of age, but we have one of the best quarterbacks in the league at the moment. A unretarded Oline and we're in the playoffs now and Bledsoe is putting up some of the best numbers of any quarterback in the playoffs.

If you want to blame something, blame the playcalling.

If you want to blame something, blame the ******** oline's play.

If you want to blame something, blame the lack of a true #1 wide reciever.

If you want to blame something, blame the inconsistancy at the running back position and our lack of figuring out which guy is 'it' for us.

But don't blame Bledsoe, that's just foolish. Not even having to consider what he's has or doesn't have around him, he gave us the best stability at the position since a few years before Aikman finally called it quits. And he can continue giving us that same stability at the position for a good 2-3 years more. Which in the meantime we use those years as time to solidify every other position around the quarterback so when Bledsoes time to step down comes we're able to easy slide our next guy in. Or hell, maybe we should just sell the 'farm' and every other position in an attempt to find that elusive "franchise quarterback" everyone seems to be drooling over.

Or better yet, just simply say after me;
Ahhhh thank god it's not Ryan Leaf
Ahhhh thank god it's not Tony Banks
Ahhhh thank god it's not Antony Wright
Ahhhh thank god it's not Chad Hutchenson
Ahhhh thank god it's not Quincy Carter
Ahhhh thank god it's not Vinny
Ahhhh thank god it's not Drew Henson
Ahhhh THANK GOD it is Drew Bledsoe!

Or maybe I'm just crazy and it was an INSANE fluke how beady Manning's eyes were when his protection broke down this last weekend. Just imagine him behind our Oline from 05'. We're asking for about $7million back from him right about now. Of course $5m would be returned in the form of spinal surgery he'd need in the offseason. And of course he'd have to let us watch the super bowl with him from his hospital room. But hey, we'd have our "franchise quarterback".;)

Interesting point of view taken from another sport forum--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The two best QB's in the NFL are gone (Brady and Manning). The rest of the guys are decent but none are superstars. I would argue that Bledsoe is as good as any of the QB's left in the playoffs.

Just goes to prove the point that QB's who put their team on their back and win it all are a dying (dead) breed.

The NFL has changed (perhaps do to mediocrity at the QB position).

Defense wins!

Those who post here that continue to call for a new franchise QB and say that we will never win with Bledsoe or any other non-superstar QB are just plain wrong.

Very good post.....we need other areas......to help our offensive line and DEFENSE!

I would take any of the four QB's over Bledsoe...

Not even close.

I think swapping o-lines with those teams rather than QB's would improve us more. Certainly thats the case with 3 of em.

Aside from better pass protection, we might actually be able to run the ball decently more often than about once every couple months too.

It is really funny to see you tear down Hall Of Fame QBs just to try to prove a point. Troy, Brett, Roger, John and Jim are all or will be HOF QBs.

You lose all credibility when you try to downplay what they accomplished.

Just because you happen to be a franchise QB does not mean that you are guaranteed 4, 5, 6, 7, or Superbowls while you are QBing your team. It only means for a good span of time that your team, if it is up to par, that you have a realistic competitive chance at a Superbowl.

Now look at those guys that you just put down to try to prove a point and tell me how many years their teams were top notch competitive?

Now look at the B-More Ravens. They have had a top 10 defense in yards and points allowed 6 of the last 7 years. We all know about the Superbowl win. Great accomplishment. The year after their Superbowl they won a wild card game and lost the Divisional Playoff game to Pittsburgh.

They lost a wildcard game in 2003 as well. That is it though for B-More. Great defense, but nothing in the QB department and the great effort their defense has put up has gone to waste.

I would agree those QB where very important but would also add that all of those teams with those QB also had top notch defense.
