Someone enlighten me to "the plan"?

Here soon a viewpoint that very much echoes my own.

I'm glad to see that many feel the same way that I do:

https://www.bloggingtheboys.com/201...owboys-waited-this-long-to-release-dez-bryant

That article makes a convincing case that waiting until now to release Dez was not the best thing for Dez. OK- but let's think back to the contract negotiation a few years ago with Dez. Dez did the best thing for Dez, period. He wasn't doing the Cowboys any favors. Well, the Cowboys just did what they believe is the best thing for the Cowboys. Maybe the timing wasn't what Dez would have preferred, but Dez's contract demands were not what the Cowboys would have preferred.

The only thing I'm curious about is had Hurns not become available would Dez' fate had still been sealed?

Good question ......I think so. Remember Hurns was the second receiver they'd gone after. That tells there a good chance Dez's fate was already decided.

If you can blame, deflect, sway......away from you when its bad or in question......that's the process....the Cowboy way.

Major needs for the Cowboys......and JG standing strong. Wow!

I know alot will defend this front office with their blue and silver glasses on, but we have a bunch of idiots running this team.

Yet we still get slow *** Witten who can't outrun me.

I'm sick and tired of looking at this team's total disfunction.

Their plan is......they don't have one.

I'm not just looking at it from the player's perspective.

This timing did absolutely nothing positive for the Cowboys either.

What is the problem with the timing? The only criticism I can see is that we cut Dez too soon. Keeping Dez until after the draft would have prevented tipping our hand on draft day. Can't see much advantage (for the team) to cutting him earlier- am I missing something? Maybe it did take the team a long time to come to a consensus on the decision. Better to take your time and make a considered decision.

Read the article I posted again then. Maybe it will occur to you the second time.

If this was the decision they were going to make, why wasn't it done months ago?

Why wasn't the player given the best chance for a new deal elsewhere?

Why didn't the team free up the cap space when they really needed it most?

Why didn't they do it when the other top receivers were available?

Does anyone in that building know what they're doing?

:banghead:
Top Receivers really who ? most were either like Dez or got huge money they did not deserve.. no way i wanted Watkins or Robinson and really Landry although a good WR hes over paid with that dink and dunk avg..thats not what we need here we have that with Bease and Switzer and now Thompson. that left what Nelson and Wallace? who else was out there? we got hurns and Thompson and will draft a 2nd rounder who will eventually start and another to fill space..Twill and Brown will have to hold down the fort until our draftee figures it out..

the plan is this is a run first and often use 3 Te sets with two slot guys and play like the NE patriots who also let their top guy go as a 1 isn't as important with an offense like ours , yes needed but not to be successful..they were going to draft a WR early anyway..we are chocked full of AVG guys who i believe might be MORE dak friendly than Dez anyway..

Jordy Nelson. Better player in every way. Signed for peanuts in Oakland.

Yeah, "we're just like the Patriots!"

Why not just answer the question?

Because the article I posted did that. It's already been answered. And this move is being questioned all over the place. And by some of the biggest Cowboys shills out there.

There's not a single valid explanation for this timing.

And not even the biggest Cowboys homer is going to change that.

Actually no, the article does not answer my question. The article contends that the Cowboy's decision making process was flawed, and because of that it took too long for a decision to be made. So what? In what way does this hurt the Cowboys?

Yes, it would have been better for Dez if the decision had been made earlier, but that's irrelevant.

So- my question remains: how would the Cowboys have benefited if Dez had been released earlier?

Because they would have had a major issue resolved earlier, when they could have adequately replaced the guy.

Or if nothing else, they could have actually had some money to participate in free agency at other positions.

But I know, they were on vacation.

He's not even the worst contract of the Cowboys in recent history. Roy Williams, Marco Rivera, Mike Vanderjagt and Brandon Carr were much worse.
Poor Marco... he got hoyt and that was that.
Vanderpunk, I wanted to punch that guy in the mouth repeatedly, and I knew it was going to hurt really bad- You never punch teeth bare-handed.
That's how strongly I felt. I'm there with Stevie.

I shouldve known better than to take xwalker at his word. The point about his ability post injury is still valid though. His production tanked and I have read about his decline in quickness and speed postop.

There are a ton of teams with both a ton of cap room and a need for WR. Baltimore, SF, Jax, Washington, Indy, and others. This notion that there is no market for WR when we saw average guys get massively overpaid is delusional.

There are a lot of Dez fans upset that he is not gone trying to rationalize their emotion after the fact.
