Sources: Dallas may release Owens (ESPN) *Merge*

Quick point here.

What player in their right mind would come out publicly and say they want Terrell Owens gone and then have to be labeled a hypocrite from here til the end of eternity for acting just like he does by adding more divisiveness to an already screwed up locker room?

Think about it.

Not everyone is like Terrell Owens. Some of the players still believe in putting the team first and they have a filter which keeps them from saying whatever comes to mind no matter what affect it will have on the team.

I'm a moron? Oh nOes!11!!

I'll refrain from the insults, and just leave it at the fact that I've said in my previous posts (if your comprehension level was up to par) that it's a story that any of us could have come to a logical conclusion would happen at some point in time in the near future. They've nobly jumped the gun here by issuing such headlines as "TO could be cut", "well their going to discuss cutting players, and TO might be one of them at some point, but not yet", and "there are some people that think the Cowboys should release TO".

So yeah, I think the stories are garbage. There is nothing there, and until they find a "source" with the balls to link his name to the story, it's crap.

So nothing to do with your slow news week comment. Nothing to do with the fact that news organizations, even ESPN, have these things called "legal departments", that require you to have even "anonymous' sources before you report on a story.

Hey I don't disagree at all the story isn't rock solid, that's not what I am arguing. But dismissing it as a lazy reporter with nothing better to run in January of all months makes no sense at all, and anonymous or no somebody told him something. When other reporters in other media are saying the same thing, you start to pay attention.

Hey and if you keep the fail comments out, I'll keep down the insults, deal? Not necessary from either of us.

The Cowboys began their ill-fated 2008 season with three players on the roster who had been suspended by the league or their previous teams -- Jones, Johnson and Owens.

Is there any team in the league that has 3 Players on the current roster that has been suspended by the league and having success in the NFL? What is so frightening about this fact is that one of them, Terrell Owens, is considered a leader in the lockerroom by many.

but the controversial receiver consistently criticized Garrett's play calling and his offensive schemes to the point that sources say the offensive coordinator does not believe they can co-exist.

There were several people that criticized Jason Garrett's playcalling and eventually Tony Romo started doing it as well. However, Terrell Owens did it early, often and did it a very public way in some of those softy interviews he did with friends like Deion Sanders.

Furthermore, one of the problems with Jerry Jones the GM is that he very often tips his hand and it gives more power to the Players and Coaches. Jerry Jones shouldn't have never gotten on the radio and said that releasing Terrell Owens could prevent the Dallas Cowboys from re-signing Demarcus Ware. The aformentioned statement by Jerry Jones gave Terrell Owens very little incentive to change, if a change in attitude is needed. Also, Jerry Jones should have waited until after the Philadelphia game to state so emphatically that Wade Phillips wasn't going anywhere. I just think it is a bad idea to publicly state this before a huge game.

No one, because that's not how the real world works. Shocking, no? Reminder: you're arguing with people who bought into the TO-Tony-Jason post-game loveathon, so the challenge before you is daunting.

Someone is starting to throw in the bullpen.

ok this hasn't even been discussed but it will and Owens "may" be released. So basically, this is a non story.

The thing that worries me the most is the unnamed source that keeps causing drama for the team. Whoever the unnamed source is, they need to be found out and terminated publicly. I am real tired of these unnamed sources. If you got something to say, say it! Dont' hide.

I'm for OWens being released.

Miles Austin
Roy Williams
Crayton
Bennet
Witten

and Felix catching out the backfield...We'll be fine.

I think it is extremely odd for people to continually lambast the "source".

Anonymous Sources are a huge part of reporting and they are almost as old as the profession itself.

If they truly put the team first then they would not say anything to anyone. The only thing being anonymous does is keep your identity secrect. At least Ownes has to balls to say what he things rather than backstab team mates. These Anonymous sources are just cowards.

I still laugh when I see people continuing to question the existence of "sources" for these stories as if they don't exist or ESPN is just trying to stir up trouble.

Are you kidding me?! What will it take for some people to come to grips with the fact that Romo and Garrett have a huge problem with TO continuing to be on this football team?

I believe the TO situation is past the point of no return and Jerry is going to side with Garrett and Romo and he will jettison TO.

it's not even that, but the possibility of the Cowboys discussing the feasibility of cutting or keeping a 35 year old receiver, set to earn 3.1mil in bonuses, is bound to come up at some point

This is a perfect example of what I find amusing.

Only one poster here actually addressed me for anything that I've actually posted, and that was on his second or third try...but at least he got there. Yet most would rather argue via posting through assumptions, assertions, and stuffing ideas down other poster's history, when that history doesn't even exist.

For the record, that post game interview was embarrassing, if not amusing.

Interesting. This is a story that likely won't go away for a while. I do agree with one of the posters, early in the topic, who mentioned that even if they keep Owens at this point this will likely comeback to bite them later.

I like TO, I happen to still think he's a playmaker, but he's no doubt paranoid and this is only going to make it that much worse when it comes to him.

Eventually you need to produce sources. Anonymous sources get old after awhile. Of course if you're right most of the time then you can get away with it. Werder is such a weasel that I'm not confident he'll arise to that level. ESPN does not have the confidence of the people IMO. Werder the Weasel.

Jerry once again shows his stupidity by giving Owens and huge deal in the final year of his contract. He should have just bumped him up a couple mill like he did with Ellis to keep his mouth shut then play it by ear, but NO, Jerry has to jump the gun and pay TO big bucks. Jerry deserves what he gets, too bad we don't.

I hope he's gone. I think he brings too much drama, and I think it will only get worse.

I wish it would just get over with, one way or another, so that maybe we wouldn't have 4-5 threads on the forums discussing the exact same topic.

Given the media's history of relaying Owens-based stories to the public, whether they can be gauged as being factual or fictional, it's very easy to assume that this and other potential stories to come will be around for a long, LONG time.

Good grief. At the pace these reports are being thrown out there, iJordanTaber will be very, VERY busy rebutting each and every one of these threads. Maybe it'll be helpful to him by merging all of them into one? Mods?

"No?"

kewl.

I guess TO-obsessed fans will claim Werder's making this quote up as well. Nevermind that much of what he said before was later confirmed.
