Sources: Dallas may release Owens (ESPN) *Merge*

But why would he be cut? Mosley and others are insane.

Hasn't anyone seen TO's great numbers? Those numbers can't possibly be replaced or divided up amongst other players, can they?

It'd be lunacy to cut the guy.

It's not like the guy is a troublemaker. He's been a model teammate everywhere he's been. His rapport with his QBs and OCs (you know, the guys who actually are responsible for getting him the ball) is legendary. QBs LOVE playing with the guy. Haven't you seen the numbers?

Come on...he's ALL about the team and never, ever thinks about his numbers. Doesn't everyone know that T.O. stands for "Team Only?"

Mosley and his motley crew should be fired immediately.

Eventually you need to produce sources. Anonymous sources get old after awhile. Of course if you're right most of the time then you can get away with it. Werder is such a weasel that I'm not confident he'll arise to that level. ESPN does not have the confidence of the people IMO. Werder the Weasel.

Tell that to Richard Nixon...oh yeah he died before the source came out....I dont think Berstein or Woodward cared if people didn't know their true source. The Dallas Cowboys have a "Deep Throat". Troubling as it is, he probably exists and where there's smoke there is usually fire. We'll see. LOL

Digest all this and then let me know what you think in the comments section. I'll dive in there later tonight.

I think you just regurgitated everything that "Next Question" Werder already. Why does it seem that only ESPN comes up with these stories?

I really like what I'm reading. I'm not qualified nor am I privy to what Owens actual effect on the team is, but I think this is definately a discussion that needs to be taking place and these are the types of tough decisions that have to be considered if this team wants to be successful consistently over the long haul.

It would have been far better if this conversation had taken place before we gave Owens the fat contract, but it's better late than never.

I especiallly like the conversation about chemistry and where they need to draw the line on signing players.

Regardless of what happens, I sure hope the powers that be are thinking real hard about what makes a winning team and develop a knack for making these decisions at the right time and not afte the fact.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say T.O. doesn't get cut. I have two reasons for saying this:

A) No where in the article does someone say, "We are contemplating cutting T.O.", it's all a bunch of sources who sound like they have absolutely no influence on what actually happens.

B) How on earth would there be "sources" to a conversation between Wade and Jerry?

"I think some of people want to just cut our losses and get rid of all those guys _ TO, Tank, Pacman,'' another Cowboys source said. "But I really think Jerry likes the thrill of trying to make it all work."

When was this source talked to? Pacman is already gone, Tank already declared he's not coming back, and no one has heard a peep from T.O. since the season ended.

You could have sources saying a conversation actually took place. But you don't even have that. You have the the opposite happening -- sources saying a conversation hasn't taken place.

Just heard the same thing on "Inside the NFL" on showtime. Team chemistry is major concern at Valley Ranch and many players being discussed. The show made it sound like Garrett had drawn a line in the sand --- TO or me, we both can not be in Dallas...!!! And it seems that Garrett is not alone, that many in the organization support him and want TO gone.

I call BS on all this considering who is saying it. BSPN and the rest of them are not even a pimple on the butt of a real reporter.

Inside the NFL on showtime is produced by CBS sports, not ESPN. Time will tell if this is a real story.....

Absurd. Reporters sometimes go to jail before they disclose their sources.

Say it was Stephen Jones or Tony Romo (or pick whichever player you please). Do you honestly think at some point Werder would disclose who said all that? All that would accomplish is to make sure the person never gave him any info in the future.

You want it not to be true, so you attack the source. As Theebs has pointed out before, Werder has an excellent relationship with some players and coaches in Dallas. To think that he's fabricating this is sort of ridiculous, especially when you consider the guy who's most often exhibited outrageous behavior is the guy who's the subject of the story to begin with, not the guy reporting it. Especially considering the "BS" people claimed from his December report has been largely collaberated.

Except Lombardi essentially reported the same thing. Someone at VR is yapping.

A part of me wonders if the yapping isn't intentionally done just to float it out there and gauge what the public consensus will be on the public stage and to test the waters to factor into an impeding decision. I really do believe Jerry stubbornly (and unbelievably) thought TO was a liked and marketable player among the Cowboy Nation, and it might have been an eye opening moment when he was overwhelmingly booed out of the stadium before the Giants game .

The bottomline is that Jerry is suffering a bit of a PR crisis. I've never seen such a negative and toxic attitude towards the Cowboys in the Dallas area by the fans than it is today. It's not just disappointment, it's outright hostility. Couple that with the worst economic times since the Great Depression, and I don't believe for a second that filling that new stadium up is going as planned. Jerry is going to have a hard time selling the same unlikable bill of goods for another offseason at triple the prices. Releasing TO would be overwhelmingly positive PR step in the right direction and a way to get the average fan back on board. Jerry, feeding off the universal and overwhelming acclaim from cutting PacMan, might just be opening his eyes to this.

it's become the Dallas Owens. everything revolves around this guy.

Exactly why I want him gone. I always knew you had about an 18 month honeymoon, and it's well over.

At some point, he's going to talk again about these unnamed sources, and he's going to tell Deion that no one is supporting him, etc, etc, and it's going to be more drama all over again.

I think you just nailed it.

No one, because that's not how the real world works. Shocking, no? Reminder: you're arguing with people who bought into the TO-Tony-Jason post-game loveathon, so the challenge before you is daunting.

:lmao2:

That "loveathon" was so scripted it was ridiculous.

It's interesting that if Werder has the reputation some people ascribe to him here, why he keeps getting Cowboys insiders to talk to him anonymously?

The fact is some of the players or/and some on the coaching staff want to send a message that they do not like T.O. and his antics. Now, maybe this is a way to get the word out ... "T.O. we are watching you, and we want you to know we don't like your influence" even if T.O. stays - which I believe he will. Or maybe it's a message to Jerry Jones.

But I don't doubt for one minute there are players in the locker room and coaches who feel the team needs to cut ties with T.O. But as long as T.O. is Jerry Jones "love child," aint no way somebody's going to speak out against T.O.

no doubt about it.

jerry controls the cowboys merchandise. it's not hard to see & chart how TO merchandise is selling (or not selling).

lets just hope the reports about Stephen are correct.
